W: What do you think of the robot economy Some people think robots will replace human beings one day.
M: Though robots benefit us a lot, it is humans who create and control them.
Text 6
W: Your dad and I are considering buying you a computer.
M: Really I want a computer that is suitable for playing games.
W: You must be living in dreamland. It is for study, not for entertainment.
M: Well, can I get an expensive computer An expensive one will surely last longer.
W: No, we can’t afford it. We’re going to buy a cheaper one for you during sales promotion.
M: Well, that’s fine. At least it’s not a used one.

M: I agree. I also need to remember to carry the new power bank I bought online especially for this trip. Enough bottled water is necessary. And can you bring snacks

M: Sure, you are right.
Text 8
M: Hey Jenny, I’m a bit worried about you. The whole team has noticed you haven’t come to basketball practice recently.
W: I know. I just have so much schoolwork and so many responsibilities these days.
M: You must be worried about being unable to finish everything. If I can do anything to help, I will.
W: I appreciate that. It’s OK. I know I can finish my work. Doing well in school is my highest priority right now, so it’s difficult to commit fully to being the captain of our team.
M: I know you have a lot of responsibilities. If you want, I can tell your friends and our teammates that you need support.
W: That would be so great. If anyone can help me in studying, that would be a huge help as well.
M: We’re in different grades, so I can’t help much with your schoolwork. But I can help with your captain’s duties.
W: That would relieve a lot of stress for me.
Text 9
M: Hi, Anna. You’ve agreed to talk about your school’s English Film Club on our show. So, how did it start
W: My friends and I have been learning English at senior high school for the last two years. However, at the beginning of this academic year, some of us thought it could be more fun if we learned it in different ways than just sitting in the classroom. That was when we decided to start it.
M: That sounds cool! And then what did you do
W: We spoke about the idea with our teacher and she agreed. The problem was to find an appropriate time to do it, so we discussed it with our teacher at first. Because we had a busy study schedule, we couldn’t have the club during our lessons. So, we decided to run it after school.
M: Does your school help you with that
W: Yes. It has opened an account for us to buy films online. Each month before we end a meeting, we ask for suggestions about the next film. Then we decide what to watch next time, and the teacher orders it for us. I enjoy watching films, but the discussions are the most interesting for me.
Text 10
M: I’m Richard Hunter. You may recognize my face from an article in a local paper recently. This was mainly about my so-called Boot Camp. As the name suggests, this consists of some quite difficult exercises, designed to make a man of you! That’s a joke. Most of my customers are women. I do morning training in villages, and I advertise in local primary schools. I find that’s the best way of reaching young mothers. The training is always outdoors, in all weathers. I’m very much into showing that you don’t need gym equipment or heavy weights. So I like to use real things which you can find around your house or garden. My business is still at the developing stage, and the same goes for my website. At the moment, it’s just advertising what I do. It has also got some pages of advice about training. Healthy diet is next on my list for the website, although I haven’t started that yet. Within six months, I hope to have some videos of people showing some training methods. I’m also planning to organize some sports camps for young children in the summer holidays. I’m looking for some helpers, so join me if anybody is interested.
A
根据Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya部分“Those looking for an unforgettable traditional wildlife park experience should look no further than the Masai Mara National Reserve.”
根据Serengeti National Park, Tanzania部分“Located in the northern area of Tanzania, the Serengeti National Park has also been famous for the annual migration (迁徙) of wildlife to permanent waterholes.”
根据Tierra del Fuego National Park, Argentina部分“The Tierra del Fuego National Park, located at the southern tip of Argentina, is nestled between the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean, thus featuring a dynamic weather ecosystem with beech forests, mountains, waterfalls and glaciers (冰川). Not quite the image you may have in mind of a wildlife park being muddy, brownish and all dry landscapes.”
根据第三段中“Although Gu has spent nearly his entire life making lanterns, he has never grown weary of the profession, saying that getting to teach the craft to young people is what motivates him these days.” 故选A项。
根据第四段“To craft the frame of the lantern, Gu has to chop bamboo carefully into long and thin sticks before using a candle to scorch the areas that need to be manipulated. After bending the sticks, Gu binds the ends together and wraps the completed frame with paper. All these have to be done with great skills and rich experience.”
根据最后一段“And with those few words he lights up the workshop, not with his lanterns but the child’s cherubic (天使般的) smile.”中“…he lights up the workshop…”
结合最后一段中“And with those few words he lights up the workshop, not with his lanterns but the child’s cherubic (天使般的) smile.”
根据第一段中“Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World is one of the most important books about climate change to have been written.”和第二段中“One of the many refreshing aspects of this book is that Hayhoe recounts both her successes and her failures to communicate, through which she has gathered evidence about what works and what does not. Much of the book’s advice is common sense…”
根据第二段中“Much of the book’s advice is common sense, all backed up not just by Hayhoe’s experience but also with convincing research by psychologists and social scientists.”
根据第四段中“The book includes amusing examples of her encounters with the ‘Dismissives’—almost entirely older men—including an engineer who was unconvinced of the evidence but with whom she was able to establish mutual (相互的) respect through a shared passion for knitting (针织)—and is packed with inspiring accounts of how she has won over even the most suspicious of crowds.”
根据第五段“He had been so inspired by her TED talk that he had started to speak to everybody he could in his neighbourhood of Wandsworth. He showed her details of 12,000 conversations that had taken place as a result, claiming that they had helped to convince the government to declare a climate emergency and to switch investments from fossil fuels to renewable energy.” 和最后一段中“Hayhoe’s uplifting book makes a persuasive case that we can all do our bit to bring about success just by talking about the issue.”
根据画线词后文“…if you tried to download all the data available today, you’d need more than 180 million years to do so.”
根据第二段中“Studies show insights involve quiet signals deep in the brain. Anything that helps us notice quiet signals can increase the chance of insights. However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals today, every moment filled with an endless supply of content.”
根据第二段中“Innovations, big or small, start with a new idea. Often, these ideas occur as a moment of insight—the result of a novel connection in our brains made between existing and new information.”以及第三段中“Besides, we also want to increase the quality of them to sort through big new ideas and find the really valuable ones that can be hard to measure. Launched in 2015, the Eureka Scale (尤里卡量表) allows us to assess the strength of our insight experiences on a five-point scale, namely, intense emotions, motivation, memory advantage, aftershocks and following ideas.”
根据第二段中“However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals today, every moment filled with an endless supply of content.”以及最后一段中“In order for organizations to benefit from another age of insight, it’s not enough to try to access more data or increase the number of insights we generate. Instead, it’s about making space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the information.”和“If we’re to enter a new age of insight, we must make timely and necessary changes to design our environments for the best insight possible to surface.”
36.C 根据上文“Unique among all the positive emotions, hope requires some degree of conflict, difficulty, negativity or uncertainty to be ignited. People high in hope are optimistic about their future and believe in possibilities. They see challenges as opportunities to grow and learn, rather than as obstacles.”
37.D 根据上文“Set and achieve goals. Without a clear goal, it’s easy to get distracted and lose focus. Hopeful people usually visualize their goals and create conditions that set them up for success.”以及后文“Getting three e-mails out in the next 15 minutes or preparing lunch in the next 20 minutes are simple examples.”
38.E 根据上文“Stick with positive people.”
39.B 根据后文“While believing in oneself is important, highly hopeful people are able to forgive themselves as well. This is a unique combination because this type of confidence allows a person to be imperfect. In addition, they are willing to take reasonable risks and accept failures to support their growth and move forward.”
40.G 根据上文“In addition, high-hope people are also creative problem-solvers. When faced with a challenge, they don’t give up easily.”

One possible version:
Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, the environmental pollution is becoming increasingly serious and global warming causes frequent extreme weather. Therefore, I’d like to appeal to all of us to take an active part in protecting the environment.
Everyone can contribute to a better environment and we students can also do our part. It is necessary that we participate in voluntary work such as planting trees and picking up rubbish. Additionally, it is strongly suggested that we should live a low carbon life. For example, it makes sense to turn off the taps, the lights and other electrical appliances when we are not using them. Furthermore, we should attach great importance to garbage sorting and recycling in our daily life, through which we can reduce pollution and conserve natural resources.
Every effort counts. Let’s join hands to make our planet a greener one!
The Students’ Union
One possible version:
We disagreed with each other and had a heated argument. “That’s terrible! We have to stop that,” I said, with images of fallen trees and homeless squirrels springing to mind. Hearing what I said, Karina, looking me in the eye, insisted that a shopping centre meant new jobs and that people were more important than trees. Neither of us could convince the other. “You know,” Karina said super seriously, “maybe we’re not quite as alike as we thought.” I sighed sadly. Maybe two people with opposite points of view just were not meant to be friends, I was thinking.
Several days later, again we were asked to pick a partner. I cast a look towards Karina, naturally and unconsciously. When our eyes met, a feeling of relief and happiness welled up inside our hearts. We ended up having more fun at the camp. And even now, a couple of months later, we still send each other crazy pictures of our cats or our baking creations. Now I understand that no two people are exactly alike, and even best friends can sometimes disagree. What’s important is that we respect each other and agree to disagree. Unless a friend does things that are hurtful or mean, a friendship is almost always worth keeping.

In the day, the view of Wuzhen is dominated by white walls and brown wooden doors, but this scene changes in the night when the different lights in the water town create various stunning colours against the black sky.
Of all the shops in Wuzhen, the workshop selling traditional handmade lanterns stands out the most during the night. The man behind these amazing creations is Gu Yeguang, a 53-year-old craftsman who was born into a family of lantern makers in Nanjing,Jiangsu Province.
Although Gu has spent nearly his entire life making lanterns, he has never grown weary of the profession, saying that getting to teach the craft to young people is what motivates him these days.
To craft the frame of the lantern, Gu has to chop bamboo carefully into long and thin sticks before using a candle to scorch the areas that need to be manipulated. After bending the sticks, Gu binds the ends together and wraps the completed frame with paper. All these have to be done with great skills and rich experience.
The lantern workshop is without doubt one of the most popular attractions in Wuzhen. According to Gu, the workshop would receive more than 100 people during its opening hours from 9 am to 5 pm during the peak summer season. To craft a simple round lantern costs 30 yuan ($4.54). The more unique ones cost 50 yuan each.
After a large group of people departs the workshop following their short class on lantern making, Gu returns to his seat and continues work on an intricate dragon-shaped creation. But before he could even pick up his tools, a small girl and her mother enter the space.
“Mummy, mummy, I want a lantern!” the girl exclaims excitedly. Gu raises his head and gets back on his feet. “Sure, let’s get started then,” he says. “Let us begin with this bamboo stick.” And with those few words he lights up the workshop, not with his lanterns but the child’s cherubic (天使般的) smile.

Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World is one of the most important books about climate change to have been written. Hayhoe is a gifted public speaker and Saving Us is a follow-up to her awesome TED talk in 2018—“The most important thing you can do to fight climate change: talk about it”.
One of the many refreshing aspects of this book is that Hayhoe recounts both her successes and her failures to communicate, through which she has gathered evidence about what works and what does not. Much of the book’s advice is common sense, all backed up not just by Hayhoe’s experience but also with convincing research by psychologists and social scientists.
Hayhoe advises against trying to engage with a small minority, the “Dismissives”, who “angrily reject the idea that human-caused climate change is a threat; they are most receptive to misinformation and conspiracy theories (阴谋论)”. There is a warning that offering up more facts about climate change can actually increase polarization (两极化) among them.
The book includes amusing examples of her encounters with the “Dismissives”—almost entirely older men—including an engineer who was unconvinced of the evidence but with whom she was able to establish mutual (相互的) respect through a shared passion for knitting (针织)—and is packed with inspiring accounts of how she has won over even the most suspicious of crowds. Her motto is “bond, connect and inspire”, which represents her approach of always looking for points of commonality.
She also tells of a man who approached her after an event in London in 2019. He had been so inspired by her TED talk that he had started to speak to everybody he could in his neighbourhood of Wandsworth. He showed her details of 12,000 conversations that had taken place as a result, claiming that they had helped to convince the government to declare a climate emergency and to switch investments from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
And so, while it may feel difficult to influence the outcome of the COP26, Hayhoe’s uplifting book makes a persuasive case that we can all do our bit to bring about success just by talking about the issue.
( )28.What does the book mainly focus on
A.Promoting people’s insight into climate change.
B.Introducing presentation skills with TED talks.
C.Developing critical thinking through literature.
D.Sharing communication tips on climate change.
( )29.Which of the following best describes the advice in the book
A.Humorous but one-sided.
B.Novel and interesting.
C.Well-based and workable.
D.Serious and hard to follow.
( )30.How did Hayhoe win over the “Dismissives”
A.By changing their political identity.
B.By challenging their fundamental beliefs.
C.By seeking common ground built on a shared interest.
D.By providing more facts about climate change.
( )31.What does the author intend to say by telling the story in Paragraph 5
A.The shift to clean energy is unstoppable.
B.Conversations can influence climate decision-making.
C.Policymakers turn a blind eye to market changes.
D.We should call on people to prepare for the climate crisis.

The Age of Information is bulging: if you tried to download all the data available today, you’d need more than 180 million years to do so. But you are wrong to assume that all information would stimulate a boost of innovation to match the output of data. Indeed, the last time we found ourselves in a period of significant innovation was over 120 years ago, called the Age of Insight.
Innovations, big or small, start with a new idea. Often, these ideas occur as a moment of insight—the result of a novel connection in our brains made between existing and new information. Studies show insights involve quiet signals deep in the brain. Anything that helps us notice quiet signals can increase the chance of insights. However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals today, every moment filled with an endless supply of content.
Besides, we also want to increase the quality of them to sort through big new ideas and find the really valuable ones that can be hard to measure. Launched in 2015, the Eureka Scale (尤里卡量表) allows us to assess the strength of our insight experiences on a five-point scale, namely, intense emotions, motivation, memory advantage, aftershocks and following ideas. The Scale combines these five variables into a single value to define the importance of a new idea and has broad applications for measuring and improving individual and organizational performance. Even it can be used to measure the impact of different kinds of work environments and learning approaches on participants’ growth. The level-5 insight, involving the richest emotion, motivation and lasting impact, holds the greatest significance.
In order for organizations to benefit from another age of insight, it’s not enough to try to access more data or increase the number of insights we generate. Instead, it’s about making space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the information. Using the Scale as a way to measure how important ideas are will enable better decision-making towards practical and competitive outcomes. If we’re to enter a new age of insight, we must make timely and necessary changes to design our environments for the best insight possible to surface.
( )32.What does the underlined word “bulging” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Approaching. B.Exploding.
C.Shifting. D.Updating.
( )33.According to the passage, which of the following cases can increase the chance of insights
A.By engaging in ongoing social media interactions.
B.By relying on technology to receive regular notices.
C.By stepping away from computers between meetings.
D.By participating in additional training and coaching sessions.
( )34.What can be inferred from the passage
A.The Eureka Scale controls the influence of our insights.
B.One with a level-5 insight has minimal emotional responses.
C.Both the quantity and quality of insights are essential to innovation.
D.A breakthrough has been made in innovation due to a wealth of information.
( )35.What is the author’s attitude towards the current environment for innovations
A.Uncertain. B.Optimistic.
C.Unconcerned. D.Dissatisfied.

Unique among all the positive emotions, hope requires some degree of conflict, difficulty, negativity or uncertainty to be ignited. People high in hope are optimistic about their future and believe in possibilities. They see challenges as opportunities to grow and learn, rather than as obstacles. 36. Here are tips on how to cultivate hope.
Set and achieve goals. Without a clear goal, it’s easy to get distracted and lose focus. Hopeful people usually visualize their goals and create conditions that set them up for success. 37. Getting three e-mails out in the next 15 minutes or preparing lunch in the next 20 minutes are simple examples.
Stick with positive people. 38. This doesn’t mean being intolerant of another person’s difficulties, negativity or struggles, but it does mean that hopeful people tend to spend more time associating with those who share a bright and proactive attitude. They maintain a healthy balance but don’t get overwhelmed by the negativity around them.
39. While believing in oneself is important, highly hopeful people are able to forgive themselves as well. This is a unique combination because this type of confidence allows a person to be imperfect. In addition, they are willing to take reasonable risks and accept failures to support their growth and move forward.
Keep a positive outlook. No matter what life throws at them, they endeavour to see the silver lining. They don’t let the circumstance define their emotional response. In addition, high-hope people are also creative problem-solvers. When faced with a challenge, they don’t give up easily. 40.
A.Believe in the power of risks.
B.Be self-reflective and confident.
C.This is key to the success of many high-hope people.
D.One way this gets done is through achievable micro-goals.
E.Being around positive people contributes to keeping optimistic.
F.Therefore, they’re constantly trying to improve themselves and their skill sets.
G.Instead, they work out solutions that help them overcome the obstacles in their way.

No two people are exactly alike, and even best friends disagree sometimes.
I still remembered the first time I met Karina at a summer camp, we got along so great. It was as if we’d known each other forever.
I really liked plantain chips (炸香蕉片), which had little appeal for other kids. So when I noticed some in Karina’s lunchbox as I sat next to her on the first day of the camp, I was surprised. Equally surprised was Karina since plantain chips were her favourite snack.
“Well, then I guess today’s your lucky day,” she said, handing me the bag. “I have a big box that is taking up space in the cupboard. So, see, you’d actually be helping me out!”
“Well, in that case, thanks!” I laughed. “I am happy to help.”
And right then I knew that Karina and I were meant to be friends forever. Whenever we got to pick a partner at camp, we picked each other. Whenever we had a break, we hung out together. And the more time we spent together, the more we realized how amazingly alike we were. We both had two adorable cats, we both had awesome and sometimes annoying younger brothers, we both liked baking extra-creative cookies, and we both had the same favourite song.
Then something happened. The camp was next to a piece of beautiful land that had a bunch of giant old trees on it. Whenever it was nice out, we’d get to eat our lunch at picnic tables that were right by some of those trees. We’d feed squirrels and play with them. One day when looking up, we spotted large numbers of holes in a trunk, which were made by woodpeckers (啄木鸟) to store nuts. I fell in love with the amazing scene!
But somehow things got different when news came that those giant old trees would be cut down to make room for a shopping centre. It was like a stone with its waves and our friendship was on the rocks.
Paragraph 1:
We disagreed with each other and had a heated argument.

Paragraph 2:
Several days later, again we were asked to pick a partner.
