One possible version:
Dear Sophia,
I am glad to hear from you. To be honest, I sometimes have the same experience as you. But you have to know that procrastination is the thief of time. The following advice may help you overcome it soon.
The most effective means to solve this problem is to make a “to-do” list. For example, you can write “finish homework before Saturday night” on your list. Reward yourself if you manage to finish it. What’s more, you can find someone to remind you to finish work at any time. Remember to arrange your most important work at proper time, and follow it strictly. Last but not least, just put your digital equipment beyond your reach. Such a small action can make a big difference in avoiding procrastination, thus improving your efficiency.
In a word, don’t spoil yourself. Good luck!
Yours,

Ⅰ.A
根据第二段的“English wasn’t his parents’ strong suit, and that’s where he was able to assist his family the most.”
根据第三段的“Unfortunately, the store eventually got shut down because he was impatient with the growth.”
根据最后一段的“Learning to sacrifice whether that’s family, friends, or soccer games for a single goal is the only way to succeed, rather than attempting multiple things.”
根据第三段的“Instead of considering it a failure, he viewed this experience as a life lesson and learned from his mistakes.”可知,他是积极的,即motivated;再根据倒数第三段的“He pushed through and did things for himself even when his loved ones discouraged it.”
根据文章第一段“Many often find themselves considering jobs below their skill level in worsening employment markets.”
根据文章第二段“Sociologist David Pedulla at the University of Texas conducted a study to examine how jobs below a person’s skill level affect future employability. He tailored 2,420 applications and submitted them to 1,210 job listings posted in five major cities across the US. He varied the applications by gender, and also by employment status in the previous year. Then he used computer models to analyse and compare the results.”(得克萨斯大学的社会学家David Pedulla进行了一项研究来调查低于个人技能水平的工作如何影响未来的就业能力。
根据画线词前文“These results should serve as a warning to anyone considering taking a job below their skill level. While it might pay the bills in the short term…”(这些结果应该给任何考虑接受低于自己技能水平的工作的人敲响警钟。 及后文“…one’s ability to return to the relevant skill level and pay grade at a later date.”
根据文章倒数第二段“The results show that employers believe that men who are employed in positions below their skill level are less committed and less competent than men in other employment situations. Those surveyed also believed that women working below their skill level were less competent than others, but did not believe them to be less committed.”(结果表明,雇主认为,在低于他们技能水平的岗位上工作的男性比在其他岗位上工作的男性不敬业,不称职。
Ⅱ.第一节
One possible version:
Dear Mr White,
Delighted to know that you’ll give us a lecture on continuation writing, I can’t wait to share my difficulties with it and my suggestions on the lecture content.
To start with, I often struggle with the main idea of a text, which prevents me from quickly organizing my ideas and effectively developing the story. Besides, I find it challenging to think of appropriate words to make my writing vivid and lively. Therefore, I hope you’d instruct us how to rapidly grab the general idea of a text by analysing some examples of continuation writing. Also, it’s advisable to provide us with strategies for expanding vocabulary and properly using it in our writing.
I’d appreciate it if my suggestions could be considered.
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
“You will be a beautiful narrator,” she comforted. Upon hearing her comforting words, I held back my bitter tears, lost in deep thought. Hardly had she noticed the sadness on my face soften a little when she stroked my hair, adding, “No one is born to be a princess. Why not take advantage of narrator’s part ” With mother’s encouragement, I began to accept that the narrator’s part was of vital significance. In the following weeks, every lunchtime with my mother witnessed my mighty effort to practise my part of lines. So fast did time pass that the performance day arrived.
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous. Sweat leaking from my palms, it was at that very moment that I found a daisy in my pocket. In a flash, I realized my mother had passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me. Consumed with courage and confidence, I concentrated on my part and the performance turned out to be a great success, the audience standing up and bursting into thunderous applause. After the play, I put the daisy into my dictionary, which was a reminder of our precious lunchtimes, bathed in the soft midday light.Period Four Writing

Andy Kong has worked very hard to get to where he is today. He credits becoming a millionaire by 20 to his strict Asian parents who tutored him at a young age by working for the family.
Kong, of Danville, Virginia, started working when he was only nine. English wasn’t his parents’ strong suit, and that’s where he was able to assist his family the most. After school and on weekends he would help out at their family-owned restaurant and nail salons. Not only did he do the labour work, but he was also involved in creating online ads. This was his introduction to the world of online business.
Andy started his Amazon business in the eighth grade. When he learned about Amazon drop shipping (直接代发货) from a kid he saw on Instagram, he got inspired and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the store eventually got shut down because he was impatient with the growth. Instead of considering it a failure, he viewed this experience as a life lesson and learned from his mistakes. Meanwhile, his parents never stopped trying to talk him into focusing on school and their retail business.
“The biggest challenge when you’re starting a business is getting someone to believe in you,” Andy says. He pushed through and did things for himself even when his loved ones discouraged it.
In 2019, Andy met his now business partners, and together, they created an Amazon management company called Project Wi-Fi. This Project has proven to be extremely successful. They currently help over 55 clients run their online businesses, and plan to help many more in the future.
When asked about the secret to his success, Andy says, “Learning to sacrifice whether that’s family, friends, or soccer games for a single goal is the only way to succeed, rather than attempting multiple things. If it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing well with no short cuts.”
( )1.Why did Andy work in his parents’ shops at a young age

Many often find themselves considering jobs below their skill level in worsening employment markets. But it turns out that working in a job below your skill level harms your later chances of getting hired for a better-paying job more appropriate to your qualifications.
Sociologist David Pedulla at the University of Texas conducted a study to examine how jobs below a person’s skill level affect future employability. He tailored 2,420 applications and submitted them to 1,210 job listings posted in five major cities across the US. He varied the applications by gender, and also by employment status in the previous year. Then he used computer models to analyse and compare the results. The results show that applicants who were positioned as working below their skill level, regardless of gender had the lowest chances of getting called for a job interview.
These results should serve as a warning to anyone considering taking a job below their skill level. While it might pay the bills in the short term, it can significantly hammer one’s ability to return to the relevant skill level and pay grade at a later date.
Why might this be the case Pedulla conducted a follow-up study with 903 employers. He asked them about their ideas of applicants with each kind of employment history, and how likely they would be to recommend each kind of candidate to an interview. The results show that employers believe that men who are employed in positions below their skill level are less committed and less competent than men in other employment situations. Those surveyed also believed that women working below their skill level were less competent than others, but did not believe them to be less committed.
The results of studies suggest that working below skill level signals to employers men’s incompetence and a lack of commitment. This is a disturbing reminder that the sword of gender bias (偏见) does in fact cut both ways.
( )5.Why do many people choose jobs below their skill level
A.They fear bearing duties.
B.They lack self-confidence.
C.They face a tough economy.
D.They pursue better-paying jobs.
( )6.How does the researcher carry out the first study
A.By conducting interviews.
B.By researching examples.
C.By making comparisons.
D.By doing surveys.
( )7.Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “hammer” in Paragraph 3
A.Ensure.
B.Weaken.
C.Test.
D.Exercise.
( )8.What is the employers’ idea according to the follow-up study
A.Men are more likely to get promoted.
B.Women are more devoted and capable.
C.Women behave better in jobs below their skill level.
D.Men show talents in work of the relevant level.

When I look back on my childhood, the first image that springs to my mind is the daisy (雏菊) kept in my dictionary, which always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother.
When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother helped me practise my lines (台词) with all her heart. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白) part to the play, and asked me to switch roles.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain, and instead of suggesting we practise my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow daisies popping through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a little bit of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the daisies. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like daisies,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful——even daisies.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower has its own beauty, doesn’t it ” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, feeling pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess. Hence, there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had sensed my pain, I started to cry when I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

The most effective means to solve this problem is to make a
“to-do” list. For example, you can write “finish homework before
Saturday night” on your list. Reward yourself if you manage to
finish it. What's more, you can find someone to remind you to
finish work at any time. Remember to arrange your most important
work at proper time, and follow it strictly. Last but not least, just

Andy started his Amazon business in the eighth grade. When
he learned about Amazon drop shipping (直接代发货) from a kid he
saw on Instagram, he got inspired and decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately, the store eventually got shut down because he was
impatient with the growth. Instead of considering it a failure, he
viewed this experience as a life lesson and learned from his
mistakes. Meanwhile, his parents never stopped trying to talk him
into focusing on school and their retail business.

“The biggest challenge when you're starting a business is
getting someone to believe in you,” Andy says. He pushed
through and did things for himself even when his loved ones
discouraged it.
In 2019, Andy met his now business partners, and together,
they created an Amazon management company called Project Wi-Fi.
This Project has proven to be extremely successful. They currently
help over 55 clients run their online businesses, and plan to help
many more in the future.

When asked about the secret to his success, Andy says,
“Learning to sacrifice whether that's family, friends, or soccer
games for a single goal is the only way to succeed, rather than
attempting multiple things. If it's worth doing then it's worth doing
well with no short cuts.”

Many often find themselves considering jobs below their skill
level in worsening employment markets. But it turns out that
working in a job below your skill level harms your later chances of
getting hired for a better-paying job more appropriate to your
qualifications.

Sociologist David Pedulla at the University of Texas conducted
a study to examine how jobs below a person's skill level affect
future employability. He tailored 2,420 applications and submitted
them to 1,210 job listings posted in five major cities across the US.
He varied the applications by gender, and also by employment
status in the previous year. Then he used computer models to
analyse and compare the results. The results show that applicants
who were positioned as working below their skill level, regardless
of gender had the lowest chances of getting called for a job
interview.

These results should serve as a warning to anyone considering
taking a job below their skill level. While it might pay the bills in
the short term, it can significantly hammer one's ability to return
to the relevant skill level and pay grade at a later date.

Why might this be the case Pedulla conducted a follow-up
study with 903 employers. He asked them about their ideas of
applicants with each kind of employment history, and how likely
they would be to recommend each kind of candidate to an
interview. The results show that employers believe that men who
are employed in positions below their skill level are less committed
and less competent than men in other employment situations.
Those surveyed also believed that women working below their skill
level were less competent than others, but did not believe them to
be less committed.

The results of studies suggest that working below skill level
signals to employers men's incompetence and a lack of
commitment. This is a disturbing reminder that the sword of
gender bias (偏见) does in fact cut both ways.

White
1.你在读后续写方面遇到的困难;
Dear Mr White,

Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
Dear Mr White,
Delighted to know that you'll give us a lecture on continuation
writing, I can't wait to share my difficulties with it and my
suggestions on the lecture content.
To start with, I often struggle with the main idea of a text,
which prevents me from quickly organizing my ideas and
effectively developing the story. Besides, I find it challenging to
think of appropriate words to make my writing vivid and lively.
Therefore, I hope you'd instruct us how to rapidly grab the general
idea of a text by analysing some examples of continuation writing.
Also, it's advisable to provide us with strategies for expanding
vocabulary and properly using it in our writing.
I'd appreciate it if my suggestions could be considered.
Yours,
Li Hua
When I look back on my childhood, the first image that
springs to my mind is the daisy (雏菊) kept in my dictionary, which
always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother.
When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess
in the school play, and for weeks my mother helped me practise
my lines (台词) with all her heart. But no matter how easily I
delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word
disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She
explained that she had written a narrator's (旁白) part to the play,
and asked me to switch roles.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home
for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain, and instead of
suggesting we practise my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in
the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning
green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow daisies popping
through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our
landscape with a little bit of gold. I watched my mother casually
bend down by one of the daisies. “I think I'm going to dig up all
these weeds,” she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots.
“From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like daisies,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful——
even daisies.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every
flower has its own beauty, doesn't it ” she asked thoughtfully. I
nodded, feeling pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true
of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess.
Hence, there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had sensed my pain, I started to cry when I
told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.
Paragraph 1:
“You will be a beautiful narrator,” she comforted. ____________
Paragraph 2:
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous.
____________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
“You will be a beautiful narrator,” she comforted. Upon
hearing her comforting words, I held back my bitter tears, lost in
deep thought. Hardly had she noticed the sadness on my face
soften a little when she stroked my hair, adding, “No one is born
to be a princess. Why not take advantage of narrator's part ”
With mother's encouragement, I began to accept that the narrator's
part was of vital significance. In the following weeks, every
lunchtime with my mother witnessed my mighty effort to practise
my part of lines. So fast did time pass that the performance day
arrived.
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous.
Sweat leaking from my palms, it was at that very moment that I
found a daisy in my pocket. In a flash, I realized my mother had
passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me.
Consumed with courage and confidence, I concentrated on my part
and the performance turned out to be a great success, the
audience standing up and bursting into thunderous applause. After
the play, I put the daisy into my dictionary, which was a reminder
of our precious lunchtimes, bathed in the soft midday light.
