根据第二段“Mixing these two substances is the technique that later artists like Rembrandt used to help the paint dry, according to the study.”(根据这项研究,混合这两种物质是Rembrandt等后来的艺术家用来帮助颜料变干的技术。)
根据第三段“‘Everything that comes from Leonardo is very interesting, because he had lots of ideas, and he was an experimenter, attempting to improve the knowledge of his time,’ Wallez said. ‘Each time you discovered something in his processes, you discovered that he was clearly ahead of his time.’”(“来自Leonardo的一切都非常有趣,因为他有很多想法,他是一个实验者,试图提高他那个时代的知识,”Wallez说。“每次你在他的工序中发现一些东西,你就会发现他明显领先于他的时代。”)可推断,Wallez认为达·芬奇对于他所在的时代具有开拓性、先驱性。故选C。
3.A 细节理解题。根据第四段“The researchers believed that Leonardo had made his mixture of lead oxide powder with linseed oil to produce the thick coat of paint needed for the first layer, while unknowingly creating the rare compound.”(研究人员认为,Leonardo将氧化铅粉和亚麻籽油混合在一起,制作了第一层所需的厚层颜料,而他却在不知不觉中创造了这种罕见的化合物。) 故选A。
根据最后一段“…scientists were able to analyse the paint by using a high-tech machine. ‘These samples have a very high cultural value,’ Wallez said. ‘You can’t afford to take big samples on a painting.’”(……

根据第二段中的“First and most obviously, it had made the batteries in electric cars cheaper and longer-lasting. And brilliantly, because electric batteries are improving so dramatically, we can already see the results. Last September, 15 percent of all-new vehicle registrations were pure electric vehicles.”
根据上文“Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid…going to waste.”及画线词所在句“But better batteries make it technologically and economically viable to store large amounts of energy from the grid.”
根据第三段中的“They can also help us decarbonise the entire national grid(国家电网).” 和最后一段中的“Batteries may not be as flashy(华丽的) as phones, rockets or other new technologies. But when it comes to technology to fight climate change, they’re definitely leading the charge.”
根据第二段中的“First and most obviously, it has made the batteries in electric cars cheaper and longer-lasting.”,第三段中的“They can also help us decarbonise the entire national grid(国家电网).”和第四段中的“It would take power from the grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power appliances and lights in our homes at the times when demand for electricity is high…but they are also growing in popularity.” 可知,作者一直在强调电池变得更好、更受欢迎,能够让更多人受益;再根据最后一段中的“So, given how much technology has improved batteries over the last decade, I can’t help but be strangely optimistic about the future.”
Ⅱ.第一节
One possible version:
In order to arouse students’ passion for both science and art, our school recently held a painting exhibition on the theme of Science Fiction Painting—Our Future Home.
Staged in the school art classroom from January 5th to 7th, the exhibition attracted many students and teachers, with a total of more than one hundred paintings from students on display. Those masterpieces pictured vividly what our future home would be like with the development of advanced technology.
The exhibition was a huge success. Everyone said they were impressed by the rich imagination and creativity and that they were looking forward to more similar exhibitions.
One possible version:
Sarah whispered her plan to Mia. After hearing what Sarah wanted, Mia’s eyes widened in disbelief. She cried, “I’ll get into trouble!” “Please! It’s my only chance,” Sarah begged. After a moment’s hesitation, Mia reluctantly nodded. On Sunday morning, the door bell rang, signaling Mr Anderson’s arrival. As he entered, Mr Anderson stopped, sniffing the air with curiosity, and asked, “What’s that unpleasant smell ” Sarah told him the local bakery does fish pie on Sundays, which made Mr Anderson frown.“Mind the mouse poo,” Sarah grinned, pointing to a pile of brown lumps.“It gets stuck in the carpet.” “Urgh!” Mr Anderson pulled a face and rushed out of the house.
Sarah’s parents got very angry and asked for an explanation. Sarah nervously explained that the disgusting smell was from the dead fish and that the mouse poo was actually chocolate drops. While initially upset, Mr And Mrs Thompson softened as they recognized their daughter’s genuine attachment to Elm Street. And at this moment, Mrs Green arrived with a creative solution. She suggested swapping her house for Sarah’s. Sarah’s eyes lit up with surprise and relief. “So we had one big house,” smiled Sarah with contentment.Period Four Writing

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society suggests that Leonardo da Vinci was more experimental with his well-known Mona Lisa than previously thought and was likely the creator of a technique seen in works used a century later.
A team of scientists in France and Britain has detected a rare mineral compound (矿物化合物), plumbonacrite, within the piece. Plumbonacrite forms when lead oxides (铅氧化物) combine with oil. Mixing these two substances is the technique that later artists like Rembrandt used to help the paint dry, according to the study.
Detecting the rare compound in the Mona Lisa suggested that Leonardo could have been the original user of this approach, said Gilles Wallez, an author of the study. “Everything that comes from Leonardo is very interesting, because he had lots of ideas, and he was an experimenter, attempting to improve the knowledge of his time,” Wallez said. “Each time you discovered something in his processes, you discovered that he was clearly ahead of his time.”
The Mona Lisa, like many other paintings from the 16th century, was created on a piece of wood that required a thick base layer. The researchers believed that Leonardo had made his mixture of lead oxide powder with linseed oil to produce the thick coat of paint needed for the first layer, while unknowingly creating the rare compound.
Nowadays, researchers aren’t allowed to take samples from the masterpiece, which resides at the Louvre in Paris and is protected behind glass. Using a microsample that had been taken from an area of the artwork just behind the frame, however, scientists were able to analyse the paint by using a high-tech machine. “These samples have a very high cultural value,” Wallez said. “You can’t afford to take big samples on a painting.”
( )1.Why is Rembrandt mentioned in Paragraph 2
A.To demonstrate his unique talent for painting.
B.To explain how he used the technique correctly.
C.To stress what made him different from other painters.
D.To show the technique was useful for drying the paint.
( )2.What did Wallez think of Leonardo da Vinci
A.Independent. B.Strict.
C.Pioneering. D.Friendly.
( )3.How did researchers think Leonardo da Vinci created the rare compound
A.By accident.
B.With other painters’ help.
C.By reading many books.
D.Through various attempts.
( )4.What can be learned about the Mona Lisa from the last paragraph
A.It didn’t contain plumbonacrite.
B.Analysing its paint is invaluable but costly.
C.It was created in the 17th century.
D.Taking its samples is an easy task now.
B
Today, battery power per kilowatt hour costs around only ten percent of what it did a decade ago. And the expectation is that the costs will continue to fall, because battery chemistry improves and manufacturing (批量生产) lots of batteries on a massive scale makes the production of individual batteries cheaper.
You can be forgiven for thinking that this might only be of interest to accountants, but the possible effects of this are enormous, and will benefit all of us. First and most obviously, it has made the batteries in electric cars cheaper and longer-lasting. And brilliantly, because electric batteries are improving so dramatically, we can already see the results. Last September, 15 percent of all-new vehicle registrations were pure electric vehicles. So the change is starting to happen.
Better batteries do not just mean better cars, however. They can also help us decarbonise the entire national grid Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid. Today, only a tiny amount of generated electricity is stored for later use, which leads to lots of power going to waste. But better batteries make it technologically and economically viable to store large amounts of energy from the grid.
It’s possible that in the not-too-distant future, we might have an enormous battery in the garage. It would take power from the grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power appliances and lights in our homes at the times when demand for electricity is high. Home batteries are not yet as established as electric cars, but they are also growing in popularity.
So, given how much technology has improved batteries over the last decade, I can’t help but be strangely optimistic about the future. Batteries may not be as flashy (华丽的) as phones, rockets or other new technologies. But when it comes to technology to fight climate change, they’re definitely leading the charge.
( )5.What contributes to the popularity of electric cars
A.The production of individual batteries.
B.The longer duration and less cost of batteries.
C.Accountants’ interest in cheaper batteries.
D.The increasing vehicle registrations.
( )6.What does the underlined word “viable” mean in Paragraph 3
A.Cheaper. B.Dramatic.
C.Workable. D.Exceptional.
( )7.What does the author expect of batteries
A.They will become smaller.
B.They will help make the world greener.
C.They will sell better than phones.
D.They will replace chargers on a long trip.
( )8.Which is the most suitable title for the text
A.Home batteries will catch on
B.Batteries are getting better and better
C.Battery technology needs improving urgently
D.Petrol-powered cars will be upgraded

Sarah Thompson lived at Number Six, Elm Street. She loved living here. The community was warm and friendly. All her friends were around and the smells from the neighbouring bakery were sweet! However, one problem emerged—Sarah’s parents planned to move. With her mum expecting twins, they needed an additional bedroom. “This house is too small,” said her mum.The following day, a “For Sale” sign was hung on Sarah’s door, casting a shadow over her and her closest friend Mia.“What should I do, Mia ” said Sarah in low spirits.
Mia frowned (皱眉头). “Has your house got problems Number Fifty’s got problems and no one wants to buy it.” Sarah stared at Number Fifty. It looked all right to her. “What kind of problems ” she asked.
“Oh, mice, coldness and really horrible wallpaper.” Sarah sighed. Her house was warm and clean and it had just been repainted recently, which was an unfortunate contrast.
Mrs Green lived next door to Sarah in a big house that had once been a grocery store.Just then, she came out, followed by her cat Whiskers.
“I’m sorry to hear that you’re moving,” Mrs Green said with sympathy. “So am I,” Sarah grumbled (发牢骚) in response. Mrs Green offered a comforting pat on Sarah’s arm. “Never mind. Your house might take months to sell.”
However, a few days later, Sarah came home from school and found a man in the living room. His name was Mr Anderson and he expressed keen interest in buying the house. Sarah’s heart sank when Mr Anderson said he wanted to come back for a second visit on Sunday morning.
At school, Sarah asked, “Mia. Does your elder brother still work in the fish shop ” Mia nodded. “Good. Listen, I’ve got a job for you…”

So the change is starting to happen.

Better batteries do not just mean better cars, however. They
can also help us decarbonise the entire national grid
Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid. Today, only
a tiny amount of generated electricity is stored for later use, which
leads to lots of power going to waste. But better batteries make it
technologically and economically viable to store large amounts of
energy from the grid.

It's possible that in the not-too-distant future, we might have
an enormous battery in the garage. It would take power from the
grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power
appliances and lights in our homes at the times when demand for
electricity is high. Home batteries are not yet as established as
electric cars, but they are also growing in popularity.

So, given how much technology has improved batteries over
the last decade, I can't help but be strangely optimistic about the
future. Batteries may not be as flashy (华丽的) as phones, rockets
or other new technologies. But when it comes to technology to
fight climate change, they're definitely leading the charge.

First and most obviously, it had
made the batteries in electric cars cheaper and longer-lasting. And
brilliantly, because electric batteries are improving so dramatically,
we can already see the results. Last September, 15 percent of all-
new vehicle registrations were pure electric vehicles.”

Science Fiction Painting—Our
Future Home
1.活动目的;
2.活动内容(时间、地点、作品等);
注意:1.写作词数应为80个左右;
One possible version:
In order to arouse students' passion for both science and art,
our school recently held a painting exhibition on the theme of
Science Fiction Painting—Our Future Home.
Staged in the school art classroom from January 5th to 7th,
the exhibition attracted many students and teachers, with a total of
more than one hundred paintings from students on display. Those
masterpieces pictured vividly what our future home would be like
with the development of advanced technology.
The exhibition was a huge success. Everyone said they were
impressed by the rich imagination and creativity and that they
were looking forward to more similar exhibitions.
Sarah Thompson lived at Number Six, Elm Street. She loved
living here. The community was warm and friendly. All her friends
were around and the smells from the neighbouring bakery were
sweet! However, one problem emerged—Sarah's parents planned
to move. With her mum expecting twins, they needed an additional bedroom. “This house is too small,” said her mum. The following day, a “For Sale” sign was hung on Sarah's door, casting a shadow over her and her closest friend Mia.“What should I do, Mia ” said Sarah in low spirits.
Mia frowned (皱眉头). “Has your house got problems Number
Fifty's got problems and no one wants to buy it.” Sarah stared at
Number Fifty. It looked all right to her. “What kind of problems ”
she asked.
“Oh, mice, coldness and really horrible wallpaper.” Sarah
sighed. Her house was warm and clean and it had just been
repainted recently, which was an unfortunate contrast.
Mrs Green lived next door to Sarah in a big house that had
once been a grocery store. Just then, she came out, followed by
her cat Whiskers.
“I'm sorry to hear that you're moving,” Mrs Green said with
sympathy. “So am I,” Sarah grumbled (发牢骚) in response. Mrs
Green offered a comforting pat on Sarah's arm. “Never mind. Your
house might take months to sell.”
However, a few days later, Sarah came home from school and
found a man in the living room. His name was Mr Anderson and
he expressed keen interest in buying the house. Sarah's heart sank
when Mr Anderson said he wanted to come back for a second
visit on Sunday morning.
At school, Sarah asked, “Mia. Does your elder brother still
work in the fish shop ” Mia nodded. “Good. Listen, I've got a
job for you…”
Paragraph 1:
Sarah whispered her plan to Mia.__________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Sarah's parents got very angry and asked for an explanation.
____________________________________________________________________________
Elm
One possible version:
Sarah whispered her plan to Mia. After hearing what Sarah
wanted, Mia's eyes widened in disbelief. She cried, “I'll get into
trouble!” “Please! It's my only chance,” Sarah begged. After a
moment's hesitation, Mia reluctantly nodded. On Sunday morning,
the door bell rang, signaling Mr Anderson's arrival. As he entered,
Mr Anderson stopped, sniffing the air with curiosity, and asked,
“What's that unpleasant smell ” Sarah told him the local bakery
does fish pie on Sundays, which made Mr Anderson frown.“Mind
the mouse poo,” Sarah grinned, pointing to a pile of brown
lumps.“It gets stuck in the carpet.” “Urgh!” Mr Anderson pulled
a face and rushed out of the house.
Sarah's parents got very angry and asked for an explanation.
Sarah nervously explained that the disgusting smell was from the
dead fish and that the mouse poo was actually chocolate drops.
While initially upset, Mr And Mrs Thompson softened as they
recognized their daughter's genuine attachment to Elm Street. And
at this moment, Mrs Green arrived with a creative solution. She
suggested swapping her house for Sarah's. Sarah's eyes lit up with
surprise and relief. “So we had one big house,” smiled Sarah
with contentment.
