The driving routes on this list are open to the public and don't require any special skills. Go out, explore and enjoy!
The Atlantic Road
NORWAY
The 5 mile road runs through an archipelago(群岛) of the Norwegian Sea, having eight impressive bridges on the way. It's a popular place for car companies to film advertisements(广告).
Ring of Kerry
IRELAND
This 111 mile roadway offers up scenery and history in equal parts, on landscapes ranging from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to deep forests. Parts of the road date back 10,000 years and roadway stops include the island monastery(修道院) of Skellig Michael and the Iron Age Staigue Stone Fort(要塞).
Million Dollar Highway
COLORADO, AMERICA
The impressive views along this 25 mile highway are reason enough to make a point of taking the route. Colorado provides plenty of opportunities along the way like hiking, camping, rock climbing, snowshoeing and white water rafting. Stop in Durango or Telluride to enjoy Western U.S. shopping.
National Route A006
LAS CUEVAS, ARGENTINA
If carving curves is your thing, National Route A006 is the place to be. The curviest part of the road—with over 60 turns—runs from Las Cuevas to La Cumbre Pass. The roadway only opens in the summer, connecting the scenic(风景优美的) wine growing area of Argentina with Chile's capital, Santiago.

Have you ever got frightened for being seriously ill but some doctors' caring words cured you right away Or have you ever felt moved deeply when doctors listened to you patiently If so, then you're not alone.
My mum, for example, recently started losing her sight, which made her worried. She went for an urgent date with an eye doctor at the local hospital. When I telephoned her that evening to see how it went, she replied, “Oh, it was wonderful. They were so lovely and kind.” Could she see now No. Had they been able to treat it No. In fact, she had to wait for an hour to see the nurse, and three hours to see the doctor.
Although they'd ruled out emergency causes for her sight loss, they hadn't known the root of the problem. She was now at home, still unable to see properly and not knowing if she would go blind permanently. But that didn't matter. What mattered to her was that a nurse met her at the door and helped her to her seat. Another nurse offered to get my mum a sandwich when lunch came. The doctor touched her knee and listened to her as she explained what had happened, asking about how the loss of sight had affected her life. He understood what worried my mum was that as an avid(热衷的) reader, she wouldn't be able to read a book again. Touched by the doctors' and nurses' kind actions, she felt she had received good care.
Patients don't evaluate the actual medicine that's been practised; it's the communication skills of the doctor that determine how they evaluate the care. Maybe the key to improving health care is better listening.
( ) 4. Why does the author use two questions in Paragraph 1
A. To praise the doctors. B. To attract readers' interest.
C. To show a common sight. D. To provide background information.
( ) 5. How did the mother feel after seeing the doctor
A. Upset. B. Worried. C. Satisfied. D. Confident.
( ) 6. What can we learn from the text
A. The mother is able to read again.
B. The mother has lost sight forever.
C. The root of the problem has already been found.
D. Better listening is good for improving health care.
( ) 7. What's the author's attitude to the medical workers' behaviour
A. Doubtful. B. Unconcerned. C. Supportive. D. Objective.
C
Regularly heading a football leads to a measurable drop in brain function over two years in active players, and could increase the risk of dementia(痴呆) in later life, a study led by Doctor Michael Lipton, a researcher from Columbia University, has found.
West Bromwich Albion player Jeff Astle died at the age of 59 after having developed a brain disease. A doctor said that his heading of footballs during his career had damaged his brain and ruled that he had died from an “industrial disease”.
The researchers took 148 footballers with an average age of 27, three quarters of whom were male and a quarter female. They developed a questionnaire to figure out how often these football players headed the ball.
The players were given memory and learning tests, and took a form of MRI scanning(扫描), which could examine the brain structure by recording the movement of water molecules(分子) through the tissue. They then took the same tests again two years later.
“Our analysis(分析) found that high levels of heading over the two year period were connected with changes in structure similar to findings seen in brain injuries,” said Doctor Michael Lipton. “High levels of heading were also connected with a drop in learning performance. This is the first study to show a change of brain structure over the long term related to head damage in soccer.”
“There is wide concern for brain injury in the potential for soccer heading to cause long term adverse effects on brains in particular,” Lipton explained.
That has led the Football Association to put a ban(禁令) on heading for children under 12 in youth teams. The England Football website recently notes of its trial to ban heading for children that it “can support the development of more skillful players … contributing to the improved technical ability of our young players”.
( ) 8. Why does the author mention Jeff Astle
A. To compare him with other 148 players.
B. To support Doctor Michael's findings.
C. To explain what industrial disease is.
D. To memorize a talented player.
( ) 9. How did the researchers carry out the study
A. By reviewing previous results.
B. By controlling activities of the brain.
C. By grouping male and female football players.
D. By conducting medical checkups of the brain.
( )10. What is the main focus of the study on footballers
A. The influence of heading on brain diseases.
B. The potential to suffer dementia in their school life.
C. The long term effect of heading on brain structure.
D. The lack of technical ability in young football players.
( )11. What does the underlined word “adverse” in Paragraph 6 mean
A. Special. B. Direct. C. Protective. D. Negative.
D
In the digital age, we are becoming accustomed to technological innovations, and the fact that they can have a deep impact on our lives.
The number of the smartphone adult users has reached 85 per cent in the UK population. Meanwhile streaming and 5G tech are changing the way we watch movies, TV shows and sports events. But Artificial Intelligence(AI) is probably the biggest game changer of them all. The biggest impacts have nothing to do with robots or even digital assistants like Google Home. Here are two real world applications of AI that are already changing our world for the better.
One is better medical diagnosis. If you had some illness, would you want to be diagnosed by a doctor or a machine You'd probably say the former, but in reality, the question is not that simple. Today, human expertise and AI work side by side to make faster, better diagnoses. Think of it this way—a doctor can spend an hour reading six or seven cases while AI can do six or seven thousand in seconds and then present the doctor with a range of possible medical conditions along with their related probabilities.
The other is reducing fraud(欺诈). Fraud against big businesses seems nothing to do with us. In fact, it often ends up affecting us all, especially when insurance companies, for example, are forced to increase the premium(保费) to cover losses. AI is being used more and more in insurtech, both to speed up the claim(索赔) process and to mark possibly fraudulent claims more reliably. It does this by analysing big data trends. Faster processing and reduced fraud are good news for everyone, and that can save money for us.
( )12. What has affected the way of our lives most
A. Reading books. B. Digital assistants.
C. Smart robots. D. Artificial Intelligence.
( )13. What does the underlined word “expertise” mean in Paragraph 3
A. Professional knowledge. B. Interesting hobbies.
C. Medical conditions. D. Scientific research.
( )14. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. AI can benefit us a lot. B. AI can help us earn money.
C. AI makes the claim process slow. D. AI makes us increase the premium.
( )15. What is the best title for the text
A. How AI is reducing fraud in our lives
B. How AI is touching all our lives for the better
C. What advantages AI is bringing to medical diagnosis
D. In what aspects AI is changing the way of entertainment

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It took place in a teacher's family. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school when he accidentally threw the ball at a vase sitting on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor and a large piece broke off. What made Ben more upset was that the vase was not a common decoration but an antique, which was handed down through generations from the 18th century. It was also his mother's favourite possession. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together hastily and put the vase back to its place.
As the mother herself dusted the vase every day, she naturally noticed the cracks(裂纹) that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he had broken the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbour's cat jumped in from the window and he couldn't drive it away no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally knocked the vase off its shelf. His mother was quite clear that her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son's nervous eyes and the suspicious looks of the other family members, Ben's mother remained calm. She realized she shouldn't just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea.
Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished but, as he had already lied, he was determined to deny everything to the end, no matter how angry his mother became.
In the study, calmly bathed in the light, his mother's face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push the door open and cautiously enter, she took a box of chocolates out of a drawer and gave him one.

第二节 One possible version:
The_mother_said,_“This_chocolate_is_a_reward_for_your_imagination:_a_window opening_cat!”Hearing her sincere appreciation, Ben flushed, lowered his head and muttered “Thank you.” Surprisingly, the mother took out another chocolate and pressed it into his hand. “This one is for the delicate repair work you did to the broken vase.” The mother then calmly encouraged Ben to reward himself with more chocolates for other merits he had displayed in this event. He did as he was told to, confessing that he was calm when facing the accident.
Now_with_some_chocolates_in_his_hand,_the_boy's_bad_attitude_disappeared. After what seemed a long time, he looked up at his mother, admitted that it was not the cat but he that had broken the vase accidentally and asked for punishment. “I'm sorry I lied to you, Mum. Please take back the chocolates.” Feeling so ashamed, Ben couldn't hold back his tears. He opened his palm wide, ready to return the chocolates. To his surprise, however, his mother placed the whole box of chocolates in his hand, smiling, “Honesty deserves the best reward, my dear.”
