During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes—the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms (制服) to be easily noticed in the purple venues (场馆). They offered help to viewers and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience.
On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem-solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former professional swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event.
One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车) appeared, like a sort of “ Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again.
Volunteers like them were seen everywhere—from bus stops to competition venues—offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter.
24. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms
A. To show love for athletes. B. To stand out in the crowd.
C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries.
25. What do we know about Guo
A. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics.
B. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work.
C. She found it hard to balance her job and volunteer work.
D. She wasn’t as patient and helpful as the French volunteer.
26. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers.
B. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics.
C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games.
D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events.
27. How is the text mainly developed
A. By sharing personal stories and experiences. B. By discussing historical Olympic events.
C. By comparing different views on Olympics. D. By listing the benefits of volunteer work.

Livestreaming (直播) through channels such as Amazon Live and QVC is an increasingly popular way to sell goods online. It usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, and someone promotes a product. Viewers can then readily buy it by clicking on a link.
We analyzed (分析) 99,451 sales cases on a livestream selling platform and matched them with actual sales cases. In terms of time, that is equal to over 2 million 30-second television advertisements.
To determine the emotional (情绪的) expression of the salesperson, we used two deep learning models: a face model and an emotion model. The face model discovers the presence or absence of a face in a frame of a video stream. The emotion model then determines the probability that a face is exhibiting any of the six basic human emotions: happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear or disgust. For example, smiling signals a high probability of happiness, while an off-putting expression usually points toward anger.
We wanted to see the effect of emotions expressed at different times in the sales cases so we counted probabilities for each emotion for all 62 million frames in our database. We then combined these probabilities with other possible aspects that might drive sales—such as price and product characteristics—to judge the effect of emotion.
We found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, when salespeople show more negative emotions—such as anger and disgust—the volume of sales went down. But we also found that a similar thing happened when the salespeople show high levels of positive emotions, such as happiness or surprise.
A likely explanation, based on our research, is that smiling can be disgusting because it lacks true feelings and can reduce trust in the seller. A seller’s happiness may be taken as a sign that the seller is gaining interests at the customer’s expense.
28. What can we know about the livestreaming to sell goods online
A. It challenges the physical economy. B. It helps the sellers develop fixed expressions.
C. It helps big company sell all goods. D. It is very convenient for the buyers.
29. What does the underlined word “off-putting” mean in paragraph 3
A. Surprised. B. Awkward. C. Unhappy. D. Frightened.
30. How do customers feel about the seller’s smiling
A. They feel thankful. B. They feel cheated.
C. They feel delighted. D. They feel so tired.
31. Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A. Expressions Affect Selling Products Online B. Smiling Can Increase the Sales in Reality
C. Emotions and Faces: What’s the Difference D. Livestreamers Sell Products Successfully
D
Poppins is a new Netflix-like streaming service designed to support children with autism (自闭症). Autism influences the development of the brain and leads to various challenges in social communication, as well as people’s behavior and interests. “Many autistic children are visual (视觉的) learners, meaning they get information better through visual information. Therefore, we’ve made special TV shows and videos,” said Gilad Piker, the founder of Poppins. With the use of visual technology, Poppins mixes special programs with special users’ experiences.
“It all started with my nephew when he was 15,” explained Gilad Piker. “He began to suffer from autism at the age of 5.” Piker noticed the boy watched cartoons and simple kids’ movies for hours, but what excited him even more were the opening logos and rolling credits (滚动字幕) at the end of a show. “When he saw them, he would stand in front of the screen. Maybe he thought it was the most exciting film he’d ever seen!” Piker added.
Poppins’ specially designed TV shows and videos can offer chances for autistic children to learn social skills, such as turn-taking, sharing, and proper behavior in various situations. Autistic children are likely to find comfort and relaxation during the watching experience. Some programs also enable them to learn new words, sentences, and storytelling skills, supporting their language development and communication abilities.
Proper selection and parental guidance are important when parents add TV shows and videos to an autistic child’s daily schedule. Each child is unique and interest is the best teacher, so parents should think wisely and choose suitable programs when determining the benefits of screen time.
“Through Poppins, autistic children can now watch educational and entertainment programs that can meet their special needs and interests,” Piker said. “Seeing those children enjoy watching the programs provided by Poppins is an amazing experience. It reminds me of the power of technology to change lives.”
32. Why are Poppins’ special programs carried out
A. To teach children how to make friends.
B. To meet the learning needs of autistic children.
C. To help autistic children learn new technologies.
D. To recommend interesting TV programs to the public.
33. What did Gilad Piker realize from his nephew’s experience
A. Autistic children’s ability to stay focused.
B. The common behavior problem of autistic children.
C. Autistic children’s interest in special visual information.
D. The importance of spending quality time with autistic children.
34. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The ideas for the design of Poppins.
B. The ways to encourage autistic children to use Poppins.
C How educators can help improve children’s social skills.
D. How Poppins’ programs benefit autistic children’s growth.
35. What are parents advised to do when choosing visual materials for children
A. Think about the time spent on screen.
B. Consider children’s preferences and interests.
C. Be familiar with their children’s daily schedule.
D. Seek more guidance from experts and teachers.

Text 10
M: No one knows exactly why some people live longer than others. For nearly ten years I’ve been trying to find the answer to this question. I’ve traveled to places with large numbers of people aged a hundred and over. Now I’m doing research on the Island of Sardinia (撒丁岛) in Italy. Sardinia is an interesting place because most men keep long life. That isn’t normal for most countries. What is the reason In Sardinian culture, as men get older, they have fewer public and family responsibilities, but the older mothers or grandmothers often have more. Perhaps the older men have less stress, which means they’re living longer. It’s true that on Sardinia the younger people are eating more fast food. Also young people are moving to cities, so they are doing less exercise because of their lifestyle. It will be interesting to come back to Sardinia in twenty years and see if people are still living longer.
