W: Hey, Jack. I think our life today is too fast. Do you think so
M: Yes. Some experts have warned that millions of us are in danger of “breakdown”, because we race through life at a crazy speed. Many of us are having our evening meals in less than ten minutes. Workers are also spending their monthly earnings well before their next payday.
W: My life is like that. I’m so tired.
M: Maybe you need a rest. How about travelling to Netherlands with me
W: Good idea!
M: All right. Shall we fly there this Sunday

M: But it may waste a lot of time.

W: Okay, Mr Green. You are the third in the waiting queue. Your name will be called when we start checking in for the flight.
M: Thanks. By the way, did your system show that I’m a gold member
W: Oh, I’m sorry that I overlooked that. In that case, you will be number one in the queue now.
M: Good that I asked. And when will you check in
W: In about forty minutes. And you don’t have any checked bags, do you
M: No, I don’t. Just carry-ons.
W: Excellent. Otherwise, things would get complicated. Now you can have a seat in the waiting area and read some magazines to kill time.
M: Okay.
Text 10
M: Hello everybody. My name is David Anderson. I’m glad to be invited by the International Student Centre to give you a talk on how to protect yourselves and avoid losses, both on and off campus. First, if you, especially the girls, are in a café or restaurant, make sure that your bag is where you can keep an eye on it. If you want to leave for a while, don’t ask a stranger to take care of it. Just take it with you. Second, if you have to walk home alone late at night, stick to well-lighted areas. If you really think someone is going to hurt you, go to the nearest house and ask for help. If a car stops and asks for information, just keep well clear of the door. Third, if you drive, park in a public car park, or at least in a well-lighted area if it’s at night. Avoid the quiet dark roads, and don’t leave your passport, laptop, or cash in the car. At last, I just want to say that in this country, it is not allowed to carry a knife, or anything that can be used as a weapon, even if it’s for self-defense. Actually, this isn’t a dangerous town if you’re careful enough.

第一节
A
【文章大意】 本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了北京人民艺术剧院将在纽约上演剧目《茶馆》。
21.B 细节理解题。根据第三段“It brings a cast of over sixty actors delivering their characteristic performance. Together, they reflected the changes in the then Chinese society through the Yutai Teahouse, a place where people from all walks of life came together.”可知,观众可以欣赏到有特色的集体表演。故选B。
22.C 细节理解题。根据第四段“…Teahouse is a must-see for everyone interested in contemporary Chinese literature, and anyone interested in catching a glimpse of the remarkable changes in modern China within two hours and thirty minutes.”可知,最适合观看这部戏的人是对中国感兴趣的人。故选C。
23.B 细节理解题。根据第五段“Tickets are now available to purchase for the price of just $100 apiece (每人) at the booking office. You will enjoy a 5% discount off the price if you purchase through our website or app.”可知,一个外地游客在线上购买门票,可享受5%的折扣,即(100×95%×2=)190美元。故选B。
B
【文章大意】 本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章主要讲述了作者学习素描的经历,以此来强调如何将生活与学习融为一体,以促进艺术学习的提升。
24.B 细节理解题。由第一段中“I’ve been teaching myself to draw for a few years. I had improved a lot but for a long while was going nowhere. I’d tried lots of books and courses, and filled endless pages with boxes, parallel lines and figures. None of these seems to be working.”可知,作者在学习绘画时面临的挑战是:尽管作者付出了巨大努力,但进展甚微。故选B。
25.D 推理判断题。由第二段中“The scribbles weren’t all good but they have become part of a whole. I’ve been absorbed ever since.”可知,虽然这些涂鸦并不都是好的,但作者接受它们成为整体的一部分,由此可推知,作者从涂鸦中获得的益处是接受了艺术的不完美。故选D。
26.C 推理判断题。由第四段中“‘We think the practice in drawing is like that in piano…Progress happens naturally. It’s not preparatory. So just follow the process and take pleasure in it. This is what matters.’”
根据第一段“Suppose you’re eager to watch the latest televised sport. Nothing looks more attractive to you than your couch. But you also could use that time to figure out how to complete the home craft project, which will take you at least an hour of watching instructional videos to complete it. You know that you’d feel proud of yourself if you got it done. However, the couch’s attraction becomes too hard to resist.”(假设你很想看最新的电视播送的体育比赛。
根据第二段“According to research, your dilemma is an example of what’s called the ‘happiness paradox (悖论)’. Simply stated, this is the tendency for people to choose a leisure activity that requires very little effort even though they know that a true mood boost would come from sharpening and applying their skills. Prior research showed that when given a choice, people would rather engage in passive rather than active pursuits during their leisure time. However, it’s an unreasonable choice because what will really make you happier is being busy in an activity that allows you to expand and strengthen your skills.”(据研究,你的困境是所谓的“幸福悖论”的一个例子。
根据倒数第二段“Although the sofa is inviting compared to a halfway-done project, we still have a way to approach it. You can break the activity down into what can be more manageable sections.”(虽然这个沙发与一个完成了一半的项目相比是诱人的,但我们仍然有办法解决。你可以将活动分解成更易于管理的部分。)可知,面对有挑战性的任务时,你可以将其分解为更易于管理的部分来应对。故选A。
31.D 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据倒数第三段和最后一段可知,研究显示了如何智慧地利用个人时间,包括选择有挑战性的活动可以增加幸福感,以及在需要时合理安排休息而并不感到内疚。D选项(使用“个人时间”的智慧。)符合题意。故选D。
D
【文章大意】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了心理词典与实体词典的区别以及心理词典的特点。
32.A 推理判断题。根据第二段“Just like a physical dictionary, your mental dictionary contains information about words.”以及“While a physical dictionary is helpful in sharing knowledge, your personal mental dictionary is customized based on your individual experiences.”可知,作者通过比较心理词典和实体词典来解释心理词典的具体含义,故选A项。
33.C 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“You add words to your mental dictionary through your educational, occupational, cultural and other life experiences.”可知,职业对于心理词典的词汇量大小有影响。故选C项。
34.B 词义猜测题。根据“However, your mental dictionary can’t be like a physical dictionary since it is dynamic and quickly accessed.”和“They found evidence that participants selected words within 200 milliseconds of seeing the image.”可知,你的心理词典是动态的,并能被快速使用。研究人员发现参与者在看见图像的200毫秒内选择了单词,由此可知,你的大脑重新获得单词的速度非常快。所以画线词的意思是“重新获得”。故选B项。
35.D 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Remember that the words you use and the mental dictionary you have are part of what makes you and your voice unique.”可知,人们的说话用词会展现个体的独特性,说明我们对词汇的选择可能会告诉别人我们是什么样的人。故选D项。

We’re going to get real, make a plan and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.”说明接下来要讲享受节日气氛的方法,因此空处应该对空前的对节日感到困扰进行评论,D选项(在假期里感到不快乐真的很糟糕。)承上启下,符合语境,故选D。

38.E 空前“If it is money fueling the discomfort, let’s strategize how you can cut down the financial expectations. You can select a thoughtful low-cost decoration or a bunch of flowers.”提到了省钱的方法,空处也应该与之相关,E选项(你也可以和你爱的人共度有意义的时光。)承接上文,符合语境,故选E。
39.B 空前“However, you can consider an excuse that can serve as a reason to leave early.”说明你可以找个借口早点离开聚会,空处应该说这么做会有什么好处,B选项(这会帮助你度过紧张的局面。)承接上文,符合语境,故选B。
40.F 空前“Rethink how to love yourself rather than care for others too much. If you have to be with someone, are you at risk to yourself because of arguments or conflicts ”说明了不要过多地在意别人,空后“Minimizing the time you spend with them is a wise choice.”说明了要尽量减少和某些人在一起的时间,空处应该交代这些人是什么人,应该是那些对自己不好的人,F选项(事实是,你很难与伤害你的人交往。)说明你很难和伤害你的人交往,和下文的“减少和他们在一起的时间”呼应,故选F。

第四部分
第一节
One possible version:
Our school newspaper recently conducted a survey to explore the eating preference of students, and the results are shown in the provided chart.
The chart reveals some striking statistics. Meat dominates our diet, with an astonishing 90% of students opting for it, while vegetables are the least favoured, chosen by only 23% of participants. Surprisingly, soft drinks hold a significant share, making up 78% of students. Additionally, more than half of the respondents favour snacks.
The data offer valuable insights. In summary, it’s evident that students should increase their vegetable intake and reduce their consumption of soft drinks and snacks to lead a healthier life. It’s crucial that we take action rather than being satisfied with our current eating preference.
One possible version:
Their first day at the therapy centre was filled with uncertainty. The children, accustomed to their own company or limited interactions (过去分词作定语), were initially cautious about Buddy. Some would avoid eye contact, while others stood still observing from a distance (现在分词作状语). Buddy sensed the anxiety too, sitting patiently and occasionally offering a gentle touch with his nose (现在分词作状语) to a child who seemed less afraid (定语从句). Despite the initial challenges, Sarah was confident that Buddy would eventually adapt to this new environment and make a positive impact (宾语从句).
As the weeks progressed, Sarah noticed a remarkable change both in the children and Buddy. The once timid dog now eagerly approached the children, gently touching their hands with his nose and wagging his tail enthusiastically (现在分词作状语). In return, the children would stroke his soft fur and share their snacks with him. Their fear and hesitation gradually changed into smiles and laughter as they began to trust and form bonds with one another (时间状语从句). It was evident that (形式主语) the journey of transformation that began in the animal shelter (定语从句) had now extended to the therapy centre, where Buddy’s presence brought joy and comfort to those in need(定语从句).模块素养测评卷

Beijing People’s Art Theatre, arguably the most famous professional theatre company in China, will present Teahouse by Lao She, which is the cornerstone of its repertory (剧目), as its New York City(NYC) appearance.
Teahouse will play at the Michael Schimmel Centre for the Arts in NYC from Nov.27 to Dec.1 this year. The production will be performed in Mandarin Chinese with simultaneous (同时的) English translation through headphones.
Teahouse is set in a typical, old Beijing teahouse and follows the lives of the owner and his customers through three stages in modern Chinese history, from approximately 1898 to 1948. As a well-received classic in its homeland, Teahouse is a must-see for everyone interested in contemporary Chinese literature, and anyone interested in catching a glimpse of the remarkable changes in modern China within two hours and thirty minutes.
Tickets are now available to purchase for the price of just $100 apiece (每人) at the booking office. You will enjoy a 5% discount off the price if you purchase through our website or app. For our local theatregoers who have bought our yearly plan, an extra 5% discount will also come your way.

Learning anything can be challenging, especially when it comes to figuring out how and what to practise. Repetition is usually essential. But you don’t want something that takes the joy out of you. I’ve been teaching myself to draw for a few years. I had improved a lot but for a long while was going nowhere. I’d tried lots of books and courses, and filled endless pages with boxes, parallel lines and figures. None of these seems to be working.
But something clicked when I started sketching this year. The sketches led to a shift in mindset. Rather than trying to practise, I was engaging in a practice—scribbling (涂鸦). The scribbles weren’t all good but they have become part of a whole. I’ve been absorbed ever since. I scribbled my breakfast, the fruit in the office, and other people on the train.
I spoke to Danny Gregory, a writer who blogs and makes videos about sketching, to try to figure out why I had become so taken by my new practice.
“We think the practice in drawing is like that in piano, where you have to play through a series of musical notes step by step,” Gregory says. “But what if you think about practice in other terms—like a yoga practice or medical practice With those kinds of practices, you’ve learned some stuff, right Progress happens naturally. It’s not preparatory. So just follow the process and take pleasure in it. This is what matters.”
I have now filled two sketchbooks just with portraits—more than 100 scribbled over a couple of months. In them I challenged myself to include people on every page. As I was used to drawing ghost-town versions, the first few pages were a struggle. But I started varying my morning coffee routine to find new places where I could observe life.
My latest sketchbook will tackle the challenge of all my drawings—hands. I’ve always had problems drawing hands. It’s early days, but I’m not fearing it as I would have before because it isn’t just practice any more.

Suppose you’re eager to watch the latest televised sport. Nothing looks more attractive to you than your couch. But you also could use that time to figure out how to complete the home craft project, which will take you at least an hour of watching instructional videos to complete it. You know that you’d feel proud of yourself if you got it done. However, the couch’s attraction becomes too hard to resist.
According to research, your dilemma is an example of what’s called the “happiness paradox (悖论)”. Simply stated, this is the tendency for people to choose a leisure activity that requires very little effort even though they know that a true mood boost would come from sharpening and applying their skills. Prior research showed that when given a choice, people would rather engage in passive rather than active pursuits during their leisure time. However, it’s an unreasonable choice because what will really make you happier is being busy in an activity that allows you to expand and strengthen your skills.
Why would engaging in a more challenging activity increase happiness The answer lies in the concept of “flow”, that is, when you’re using your abilities at their peak, you experience an uprush of happiness that pushes you through a challenging task. You won’t feel that way if you just do the simple task.
Although the sofa is inviting compared to a halfway-done project, we still have a way to approach it. You can break the activity down into what can be more manageable sections. Looking more realistically at your abilities, and then seeking guidance, you can now feel better about the whole enterprise.
The finding doesn’t mean that you have to abandon your couch all the time when you’ve got a choice about how to use your leisure time. Instead, you could put some variety into your choices. If you had a particularly tough week, either with managing your family or responsibilities at work, it’s fine to take a break. You don’t even need to feel guilty about that occasional use of “me-time”.

The days of having a dictionary on your bookshelf are numbered. But that’s OK, because everyone already walks around with a dictionary—not the one on your phone, but the one in your head.
Just like a physical dictionary, your mental dictionary contains information about words. This includes the letters, sounds and meaning, or semantics of words, as well as information about parts of speech and how you can fit words together to form grammatical sentences. While a physical dictionary is helpful in sharing knowledge, your personal mental dictionary is customized based on your individual experiences.
What words are in your mental dictionary might overlap with the mental dictionary of someone else who also speaks the same language, but there will also be a lot of differences between the content of your dictionaries. You add words to your mental dictionary through your educational, occupational, cultural and other life experiences. This customization also means that the size of mental dictionaries is a little bit different from person to person and varies in age. Researchers found that the average 20-year-old American English speaker knows about 42,000 unique words, and this number grows to about 48,000 by age 60. Some people will have even larger vocabularies.
However, your mental dictionary can’t be like a physical dictionary since it is dynamic and quickly accessed. Your brain’s speed to retrieve a word is very fast. In one study, researchers mapped the time course of word retrieval among 24 college students by recording their brain activity while they named pictures. They found evidence that participants selected words within 200 milliseconds of seeing the image. After word selection, their brains continued to process information about that word, like what sounds are needed to say that chosen word and ignoring related words. This is why you can retrieve words at such speed in real-time conversations, often so quickly that you give little conscious attention to that process.
The next time you have a conversation with someone, take a moment to reflect on why you choose the specific words. Remember that the words you use and the mental dictionary you have are part of what makes you and your voice unique.
( )32.In Paragraph 2, the author explains the mental dictionary by .
A.making a comparison B.analysing influences
C.drawing conclusions D.offering assumptions
( )33.What can we infer from Paragraph 3
A.People’s vocabulary will peak at the age of 60.
B.The content of one’s mental dictionary is inherited.
C.Careers have an impact on the size of a mental dictionary.
D.Native English speakers share the same mental dictionaries.
( )34.What does the underlined word “retrieve” mean in Paragraph 4
A.Revise. B.Reacquire.
C.Retell. D.Represent.
( )35.According to the passage, which of the following may the author agree with most
A.People are aware of the word choosing process.
B.Think twice before what to say in a conversation.
C.Printed dictionaries will be replaced by mental ones.
D.Our choices of vocabulary probably tell who we are.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the animal shelter, Sarah walked through the rows of cages until her eyes landed on a small, trembling dog huddled (蜷缩) in the corner. “I think I’ve found the one,” Sarah whispered softly to herself as she looked into the dog’s sad eyes. This timid, abandoned dog had no idea that a journey of transformation with friendly people lay in store for him.
The shelter staff explained that the dog, named Buddy, had a difficult past and was very shy and scared. Sarah extended a hand, offering a soothing tone, “Hey sweetie, you must have a story to tell, but from now on, you’ve got a buddy in me.”
Bringing Buddy home was just the beginning of their journey, which was rocky at first for him. Everything was strange and new, causing him to hide under furniture and startle at every sound. Therefore, Sarah provided a cozy bed, delicious meals, and most importantly, heaps of love and comfort.
Slowly but surely, he started to emerge from his shell, wagging his tail tentatively and gazing at Sarah with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. Under Sarah’s patient and loving guidance, Buddy flourished, even learning tricks and commands, and forming a deep bond with his new owner.
The journey of healing turned out to be a success. But Sarah had never expected it would bring about another one.
One day, while scrolling through social media, Sarah came across a heart-warming story about dogs being trained to assist children with autism (自闭症). Those children had social communication difficulties and had few facial expressions and gestures. Without hesitation, she enquired about the programme and soon, Buddy was enrolled in training to become a certified therapy dog. But she was unsure whether Buddy would be comfortable with the new challenge.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
Their first day at the therapy centre was filled with uncertainty.

Paragraph 2:
As the weeks progressed, Sarah noticed a remarkable change both in the children and Buddy.
