English is becoming more and more popular in China. It can be
used in every field, such as on some signs and restaurant menus. But
there are some problems when people use it.Perhaps you've seen the
English letters “WC” in your city. They show public toilets. But do you
know they are far from native ( 地道的 ) English In fact, foreigners
from English-speaking countries seldom use the letters.Workers in our
city are changing “WC” signs all over the city. The government is
spending much money changing all the bad English on signs and
restaurant menus. Many other places in China are following these
steps.
“‘WC’ is old-fashioned English. It sounds dirty to me,” says
Nancy, a young woman from the US.The old sign will become
“Gents/Men” and “Ladies/Women”.“I see much poor English in
everyday life , ” she says.“I know what they mean, but they are
Chinglish. When someone says to me ‘My hometown is Guizhou
Province,’ I know he or she should say ‘My hometown is in
Guizhou Province.’” “Hometown” is a smaller place in a province.
The common mistakes that Nancy picks up include “Not Entry”
“Direction of Airport”, which should be changed to “No Entry” “To
the Airport”.And it is “Room Rate”, not “Room Price”.And remember
to use “Keep off the Grass” rather than “Care of the Green”.

请阅读下面短文,根据所提供的信息,回答五个问题。要求
所写答案语法正确、信息完整切题。
Asking for directions is important. However, people become
confused (困惑的) easily when listening to someone giving directions.
So pay careful attention when listening to someone showing directions.
For example, he or she may tell you, “Go down the street and turn
right at the first crossing.Walk two miles, and then you will find a
movie theater and China Bank is across from the theater.” After
listening to someone providing directions in English, are you clear ?
Here is some advice to help you remember the directions.
  Be sure to ask the person giving directions to slow down or repeat politely;
Repeat each direction the person gives.This will help you remember the names of street, turns, and crossings;
Finally, repeat the whole set of directions again.
Of course, remember to be polite when you ask for directions.
Here come two tips:
·Use greetings and polite expressions.Starting the conversation
with a greeting is a must like “Good afternoon!” or “Hello! May I
ask for some help ?” Remember to finish with expressions such as
“Thank you!” or “Have a nice day!”
·Use modal verbs ( 情 态 动 词 ).For example, it sounds more
polite to say, “Excuse me, would you like to tell me the way to
Xinhua Bookstore?” But it sounds impolite if you say, “Tell me the
way to Xinhua Bookstore.”
1.What should people do when they listen to someone giving
directions
They should pay careful attention.
2.Where is the bank according to the first paragraph
It is across from the theater.
3.What is the chart about
It is about the advice to help remember the directions.
4.According to the last two paragraphs, how to be polite when
people ask for directions
By using greetings, polite expressions and model verbs.

Excuse me, would you like to tell me the way to the washroom
