Live with roommates? Have friends and family around you? Chances are that if you’re looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle, not everyone around you will be ready to jump on that bandwagon.
I experienced this when I started switching to a zero waste lifestyle five years ago, as I was living with my parents, and I continue to experience this with my husband, as he is not completely zero waste like me. I’ve learned a few things along the way though, which I hope you’ll find encouraging if you’re doing your best to figure out how you can make the change in a not-always-supportive household.
Zero waste was a lifestyle movement a few years back. I remember showing my parents a video of Bea Johnson, sharing how cool I thought it would be to buy groceries with jars, and have so little trash! A few days later, I came back with my first jars of zero waste groceries, and my dad commented on how silly it was for me to carry jars everywhere. It came off as a bit discouraging.
Yet as the months of reducing waste continued, I did what I could that was within my own reach. I had my own bedroom, so I worked on removing things I didn’t need. I also offered to cook every so often, so I portioned out a bit of the cupboard for my own zero was te groceries. Perhaps your household won’t entirely make the switch, but you may have some control over your own personal spaces to make the changes you desire.
As you make your lifestyle changes, you may find yourself wanting to speak up for yourself if others comment on what you’re doing, which can turn itself into a whole household debate. If you have individuals who are not on board, your words probably won’t do much and can often leave you feeling more discouraged.
So here is my advice: Lead by action.
4. What does the underlined phrase “jump on that bandwagon” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Join you in what you’re doing. B. Share an apartment with you.
C. Help you to make the decision. D. Transform your way of living.
5. Why did the author show her parents a video of Bea Johnson?
A. She wanted to change her parents.
B. She disagreed with her parents.
C. She was favorable to buy groceries with jars.
D. She tried to explain what zero waste was.
6. What can we infer about the author?
A. She enjoys cooking very much.
B. She tries her best to achieve her goals.
C. She wants to be a responsible housewife.
D. She only cares about her own business.
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. How to have your own personal space at home.
B. How to live in harmony with other family members.
C. How to live a zero waste lifestyle in your household.
D. How to persuade others through your own actions.

The National Gallery has always given pride of place to Peter Paul Rubens’s Samson and Delilah, listing it among the “highlights” of its collection, since it purchased the picture at Christie’s in 1980 for a then record price.
Critics (评论家) have long suggested that the painting is not really by Rubens. And now a series of scientific tests employing groundbreaking AI technology have concluded that the 17th-century Flemish painter could never have painted it.
“The results are quite astonishing,” Dr. Carina Popovici, the scientist who carried out the study, told the Observer. “The algorithm (算法) has returned a 91% probability for the artwork not being authentic.” The AI technology analyses different features of an artist’s work, including brushstroke patterns. Popovici said that everything that’s not by the hand of the assumed artist will come out with a negative probability and that the technology can produce accurate results even for artists who greatly changed their style across their careers as every artist has a unique brushstroke.
The AI analysis was carried out by Art Recognition, a Swiss company based near Zurich of which Popovici is a co-founder. It has analyzed 400 works with this technology, and has an ongoing collaboration (合作) with Tilburg University in Holland.
Critics have long argued that it is only a copy of a Rubens original that is known to have been painted between 1608 and 1609 for his Antwerp sponsor Nicolaas Rockox which then vanished after his death in 1640. Then it was not until in 1929 when it appeared again.
The significance of this new AI method of authentication is potentially groundbreaking. Short of human subjectivity, emotion and commercial interests, the software is coldly objective and scientifically accurate. Many questionable works were given the credit to Rubens at the beginning of the 20th century. There is today a clear need for more reliable methods of judgment.
8 Why does the National Gallery pay much attention to Samson and Delilah?
A. It is one of Rubens’s works. B. It can give off unique light.
C. It receives much criticism. D. It is thought of great value.
9. What can be inferred about the artists in the third paragraph?
A. They are not satisfied with the AI technology. B. They wish their artworks to be valued.
C. They have unchangeable painting habits. D. They can create some artworks beyond times.
10. What does the underlined word “vanished” mean in paragraph 5?
A. Broke. B. Arrived. C. Disappeared. D. Adjusted.
11. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. The AI technology has many advantages.
B. The AI technology is short of human subjectivity.
C. The AI technology will judge many questionable works.
D. The AI technology is the most reliable method of judgement.
D
Despite earning more than $ 100,000 in household income, many people feel that they are living month to month and that a loss of employment or sudden medical emergency could easily move them from the upper middle class to low income earners. This feeling of being on the “edge” of poverty, despite these levels of income, seems a bit ridiculous but it really comes down to easy credit, misunderstanding of their incomes and peer group pressures.
Even in today’s tough economy, for those with six-figure incomes credit is easy to come by. Credit companies may have cut back offerings to those in lower income brackets due to the recent credit reforms, but there seems to be little or no effect on high income earners. Their being able to get credit without difficulty gives them a false sense of security that makes them spend way more than their incomes can afford. That’s why they accumulate credit card debt faster than average.
Many higher income earners feel like they are making lots of money now, and believe that they will continue to make big money. This may reduce their feeling that they need to watch their money carefully now. Hand in hand with that, many of them probably believe that they are making more money than they really are — or said another way, the money they make will go farther than it really does.
Meanwhile, many young professionals who are earning good incomes don't come from particularly privileged backgrounds, and their reference point may be that they are making twice (or more) than their parents were — so they spend like that as well. They don’t take account of the effect of inflation, which means that the cost of living is much higher than that in their parents’ generation. Further, the more you earn, the more you pay in tax. Rather than focusing on after-tax incomes, many high income earners only look at the top line figures. A $ 100,000 income before tax is only about $ 70,000 after tax.
12. Who is the text centered on?
A. The upper middle class. B. The lower income group.
C. People living in poverty. D. People getting into debt.
13. What causes some people to spend beyond their income according to the text?
A. Lack of real budget. B. Easy availability of credit.
C. The good economic climate. D. Their privileged backgrounds.
14. What does the author intend to remind young professionals about in the end?
A. They should focus on their top line figures.
B. They need to look ahead rather than look back.
C. They actually don't earn as much as they think.
D. They should form good personal financial habits.
15. Which of the following might be discussed in the next paragraph?
A. Effects of peer group pressures. B. Ways to keep financial stability.
C. Harm of poor money management. D. Tips on reducing the risk of poverty.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Managing Conflict with Humor
Laughter is a powerful tool. ____16____ Here’s how to use humor to resolve disagreements and strengthen your relationships.
Make sure you’re both in on the joke. Humor can help you overcome conflict only when both parties are in on the joke. ____17____ If he or she isn’t likely to appreciate the joke, don’t say or do it, even if it’s “all in good fun”. When the joking is one-sided rather than mutual, it can damage the relationship.
____18____ Humor helps you face challenges in life. But there are times when humor is not healthy. For example, sometimes it is used as a cover for avoiding painful emotions. You can be funny about the truth, but hiding the truth isn’t funny. When you do that, you create confusion and mistrust in your relationships.
Develop a smart sense of humor. Some find it easier than others to use humor, especially in tense situations. If your efforts aren’t going over well, start by using self-deprecating (自嘲的) humor. We all love people who don’t take themselves too seriously. After all, nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. So, if you’re having a bad hair day, make a joke about it. ____19____
Tap into (发掘) your playful side. It’s understandable to fear rejection when attempting humor. However, it’s important to point out that you don’t need to be a comedian to use humor to manage conflict. The point isn’t to impress the other person, but simply to lighten the mood. ____20____ It can lower the other person’s defenses and put you both in a more positive state of mind.
A. Some jokes are easy to understand.
B. Avoid humor when facing challenges.
C. Don’t use humor to cover up other emotions.
D. So it’s important to be sensitive to the other person.
E. Therefore, don’t be afraid to simply act silly like a kid.
F. It brings people closer, managing conflict, and reducing tension.
G. Even if the joke falls flat, the only person you risk offending is yourself.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, learning to classrooms, laboratories and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure.”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile”. Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the trace curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.

Dear classmates,
I’m excited to share To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Lee, born in 1926, won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel. The story is set in the 1930s American South and follows Scout Finch, a young girl whose father, Atticus, defends a Black man falsely accused of assault. Through Scout’s innocent perspective, the novel explores themes of racial injustice and moral growth.
I adore this book because it blends deep social issues with warmth and humor. Atticus’s integrity and Scout’s curiosity inspire me to stand for justice and embrace empathy. As Lee wrote, “You never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” This timeless lesson makes the novel unforgettable.
Thank you!
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)

【答案】参考范文
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. Never in her wildest dream had she imagined that she could achieve such an eye-catching score! Conquering this one mile was a milestone in her running career! Amazingly, Coach Pitts’ positive recognition installed an enormous sense of achievement into her heart. Enthusiastic cheers and thunderous applauses from her classmates kept her on the top of the world. Breathless and exhausted, she realized that overcoming seemingly the toughest challenges just needed a smart strategy like her mind trick. Her initial self-doubt gave way to self-confidence. Being a freshman, she tended to get lost in the 6-story maze, leaving her so helpless. Staring at the towering teaching building, Eva came up with a good idea, with a smile blooming across her face.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. No sooner had she returned to the confusing maze than she set out to explore the first floor. Convinced that her mind trick would locate her in the school as soon as possible, she came to a gym, which was well-equipped with various workout facilities. Next to the gym was a cafeteria, which provided a wide range of foods and drinks. As Eva walked back to her classroom, she noticed that she felt less overwhelmed by this huge complex. Time ticking away, Eva eventually got familiar with the vast maze in the way she finished the one-mile run. One lap at a time did work! So did one floor a week! It dawned on her that goals are easier to achieve in small steps.
