二、据短文内容,从短文后选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Make sure your estate(财产) plan keeps up with life changes
Few things are as important as estate planning. If you don’t handle your business while you’re alive, the ramifications(影响) can run deep and wide long after you’re gone.
Estate planning may seem discouraging because it deals with issues of aging. Or maybe you think estate planning is only something folks like Bill Gates do. It’s for everybody. ___26___Here’s how.
What’s an estate plan Think of estate planning as a set of legal documents that spell out who gets your possession when you die, who you want to make medical decisions, who should make financial decisions on your behalf, and more. ___27___
This is not a one-shot deal. It’s great that you finally got your will done, have your medical directives in place, and gave someone power of attorney. ___28___Life is changing. Your documents should keep pace with change.
“Remember to update beneficiaries on life insurance policies after the first spouse(配偶) dies,” says Martin Levine, chief financial officer for 4Thought Financial Group in Syosset.___29___
Get help. This is one time when DIY probably isn’t a good idea. Talk to a financial adviser, preferably one with expertise in estate planning.
___30___ Don’t assume that establishing joint tenancy (sharing ownership in personal property, such as a home) or joint ownership over financial accounts is enough to protect your assets.
A. Make no assumptions.
B. But, you’re hardly finished.
C. Decide to do it, and to avoid unexpected consequences.
D. It is difficult to choose a right heir before your death unless they are your closest ones.
E. Ideally, it will make things easier for your heirs(后继人) at a time when they most need it.
F. Finding a reliable agency to deal with your possessions is a wise choice when planning estate.
G. The birth of a child and divorce are other life events that will require updating estate planning documents.
【答案】26. C 27. E 28. B 29. G 30. A
前一句“It’s great that you finally got your will done, have your medical directives in place, and gave someone power of attorney. ”(你终于完成了遗嘱,有了你医疗指示,并给了别人代理权,这很好)在讲财产计划完成后似乎一切尘埃落定,但横线后一句“ Life is changing. ”(生活在不断改变)说世事无常,因此可以推测横线上要选的语句应是转折意味的语句,B项(但是,你还没有完成)符合语境,故选B。
【29题详解】
这一段为世事无常做出了举例,空前““Remember to update beneficiaries on life insurance policies after the first spouse(配偶) dies,” says Martin Levine, chief financial officer for 4Thought Financial Group in Syosset.”(西奥塞特市4Thought金融集团首席财务官马丁 莱文表示:“记得在第一任配偶去世后,更新人寿保险受益人的信息。”)说在丧偶情况下,因此此处要填的是其他的情况如新生子或离婚等。G项(孩子的出生和离婚是其他需要更新遗产规划文件的生活事件)符合语境,故选G。
【30题详解】
根据空后“Don’t assume that establishing joint tenancy (sharing ownership in personal property, such as a home) or joint ownership over financial accounts is enough to protect your assets.”(不要以为建立联权共有(共同拥有个人财产,如房屋)或共同拥有金融账户就足以保护你的资产)可知,本段主要讲不要在财产方面做任何假设,A项(不要妄自假设)符合语境,故选A。

Leafy greens are a great way to improve your health as they possess many vital nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are also low in calories, making them a good choice for those who want to manage their weight. The following salad leaves in your diet are highly recommended by nutritionists.
Spinach
Spinach is easy to get all year round. It is a good source of antioxidants, which can reduce the risk of many diseases, including heart disease and certain cancers. It’s best eaten uncooked, as part of a salad, as cooking tends to destroy the naturally occurring nutrients in the leaves.
Collard greens
Collard greens are a good source of lutein, which is important for eye health. They are full of vitamins A and C and minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, copper and selenium, and are a good source of fibre. As with spinach, you can get them all year round.
Rocket
If you’re in the mood for a leafy green with a fresh, slightly bitter and peppery taste, consider adding rocket to your plate. Rocket is packed with nitrates — which studies have shown can boost performance in sports. Rocket is also rich in vitamins K and C, and calcium and polyphenols.
Romaine lettuce
Romaine lettuce is a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, K, C and folate (叶酸). During Yang Zhongkai’s early years, a 500-year-old majestic ginkgo (银杏) tree that did not sprout leaves for two to three years at a stretch used to be a daily sight for him on his way to and from high school. Since villagers widely regarded the tree as having the power to make their wishes come true, they used to kneel down in front of the “lucky” tree and burn offerings under it, which led to prolonged heat exposure at its roots, stunting its growth.
“Millions of such old trees are in urgent need of protection given their importance as vital biological resources and symbols of ecological civilization,” said Yang, who started the team — Zhiyue — dedicated to protecting ancient trees. “But the recording and management of ancient and famous trees nationwide commonly rely on Excel spreadsheets (电子表格), which present issues such as information silos, lack of real-time updates and incomplete content,” he said.
However, things have changed of late. Yang and his team now use the artificial intelligence technology developed by Tencent Cloud to identify and register trees accurately based on individual traits and GPS tracking. “With the acceleration of a new generation of technological revolution and industrial transformation, new technologies bring more excitement to the protection of ancient trees,” Yang said. “We can now collect data on the trees’ growth, health and environment in real time, which helps us make informed decisions on how to better protect them.”
“In addition to applying cutting-edge technologies such as AI and large models to assist in the development of traditional industries, the company also makes great efforts to promote the development of charitable causes through technological and platform advantages,” Wu. Yunsheng said, vice-president of Tencent Cloud, adding that “the power of technology can change the world”.

These nutrients are essential for maintaining overall health and supporting a healthy immune system. Romaine is a source of fibre too, which is known to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer.

Russ Miller, 36, from Ohio, was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (类风湿性关节炎) when he was just 26, making it progressively difficult for him to do everyday tasks.
“My hands are deformed (畸形的). I can’t bend them like others. Recently my thumb has stopped working,” said Miller in a letter to a company. “I can no longer use normal computer keyboards and it’s hard for me to even hold a pen anymore.”
Russ’ condition resulted in him living on the streets in Florid for 4 years, but in 2018, he started trying to turn his life around. “I was trying to get help and get myself out of my situation. And because I was able to start typing on my phone again, I was able to use social media to reach out to an organization that helps people with disabilities.” It’s the hexagonal (六边形的) layout of the keyboard that Russ finds a whole lot easier.“ I can move my fingers around and not mess up as often.”
“Now I have a part-time job where I take care of dogs and cats on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can’t work full time, because of my physical issues but at least I have something to do and something to look forward to.” Russ said.
