“Get your hands off me, I have been stolen, ”the laptop, a portable computer, shouted. That is a new solution to laptop computer theft: a program that lets owners give their property a voice when it has been taken.
The program allows users to display alerts on the missing computer’s screen and even to set a spoken message. Tracking software for stolen laptops has been on the market for some time, but this is thought to be the first that allows owners to give the thief a piece of their mind.
Owners must report their laptop missing by visiting a website, which sends a message to the model: a red and yellow “lost or stolen” sign appears on its screen when it is started. Under the latest version(版本)of the software, users can also send a spoken message. 2·1·c·n·j·y
The message can be set to reappear every 30 seconds, no matter how many times the thief closes it. “One customer sent a message saying, ‘You are being tracked. I am right at your door’, ”said Carrie Hafeman, chief executive of the company which produces the program, Retriever.
In the latest version, people can add a spoken message. For example, the laptop’s speakers will say, “Help, this laptop is reported lost or stolen. If you are not my owner, report me now. ”
The Retriever software package, which costs $ 29. 95 but has a free trial period, has the functions of many security software programs. Owners can remotely switch to an alternative password if they fear that the thief has also got hold of the access details.
If a thief accesses the Internet with the stolen laptop, Retriever will collect information on the Internet service provider in use, so that the police can be alerted to its location. Mental and health experts believe personality plays an important part in how we experience stress. Personality is the way a person acts, feels and thinks.
Some people are aggressive and always in a hurry. They often become angry when things do not happen the way they planned. They are called “Type A” personalities. Studies suggest that these people often get stress-related disorders. The “Type B” personality is calmer. These people are able to deal with all kinds of situations more easily. As a result, they are less affected by stress.
Studies have also shown that men and women deal with stress differently. Women seem to be better able to deal with stress than men are. However, experts say women are three times more likely to develop depression(抑郁)in reaction to the stress in their lives. American writer John Gray became famous for his book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus(金星). He notes that men and women have opposite ways of dealing with stress. For a man, the best way is to rest and forget about daily problems. But a woman suffering from stress needs to talk about her problems.
Experts say there are several ways to deal with stress, including deep breathing, exercise, eating healthy foods, getting enough rest and balancing the time spent working and playing. Exercise is one of the most effective stress-reduction measures, as physical changes from exercise make you feel better. In addition, exercise can also improve the body’s defense system against disease.
Keeping stress to yourself can make problems worse. Experts say that expressing emotions to friends or family members or writing down your feeling can help reduce stress. And they also suggest that people should attempt to accept or change stressful situations whenever possible.

Leaving a beloved pet behind for a holiday, or even for a long day at work, can be painful.
But now there is a device that lets owners video chat with their dogs or cats from anywhere in the world and even reward them with a treat.
PetChatz claims to be the first-ever videophone of its kind and comes with a colour camera so that pets and owners can see each other.
The device, which is available to pre-order from the Minnesota-based firm, dispenses(分配)treats for the animals that are at home alone, and lets out nice smells for them, while also recording the animals’ expressions so that owners can share videos of their pets’ reactions.
However, it comes at a price—$349(about $2, 123)—and the device is expected to ship in early 2014 to customers only in the U. S. and Canada.
The company said, “Since the pets can see you, hear you, and feel your love with the tasty treats and nice smells you provide, your day becomes a little easier and the time away feels a little shorter. ”
The PetChatz unit is placed on a wall at the pets’ line of sight and claims to be safe for animals and ‘chew resistant’ so it cannot be easily damaged.
The device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and owners can log on to PetChatz. com on their computers or use a smartphone app to talk to their pets.
A special ringtone tells the pet when its owner is calling, at which point the screen is activated(被激活)and the video conversation is possible if the pet runs to the phone. 【版权所有:21教育】

The day when the jobs were handed out was one of the most exciting moments for all the children in the class. It took place during the first week of the term. Every kid was given a job for which they would be responsible for the rest of that school year.
Some jobs were more interesting than others, and the children were eager to be given one of the best ones. When giving them out, the teacher took into account which pupil had been most responsible during the previous year. During the previous year Rita had carried out the teacher’s instructions perfectly. All the children knew Rita would be given the best job.
But there was a big surprise. Each child received a normal job. But Rita’s job was very different. She was given a little box containing some sand and one ant. Though the teacher insisted that this ant was very special, Rita felt disappointed. Most of her classmates felt sorry for her. Even her father became very angry with the teacher and he encouraged Rita to pay no attention to this insignificant pet. However, Rita preferred to show the teacher her error by doing something special with that job of little interest.
Rita started investigating all about her little ant and gave the ant the best food, and it grew quite a bit bigger.
One day, a man, who looked very important, came into their classroom and declared, “Your class has been chosen to accompany me, this summer, on a journey to the tropical rain forest, where we will investigate all kinds of insects. Among all the schools of this region, your class has best cared for the little ant. ”

【出处:21教育名师】

Going Online
Recently going online has become more and more popular with middle school students. 21cnjy.com
In my opinion, there are some advantages for the students to go online. First, it can broaden our knowledge and make us know the latest news at home and abroad. Second, there are many learning materials on the Internet which are useful for us to learn English. Also, we can make many online friends. 21教育名师原创作品
However, there are also some disadvantages. Most students play computer games instead of studying their lessons, which will affect their study. What’s worse, going online too often can do harm to our eyes. Besides, without much experience, it’s easy for us to make bad friends and be influenced to do stupid things.
So I think as students, we can go online properly. We should choose things which are valuable to our study and life. We must place study, health and safety before other things.
