Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something they are interested in. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.
Practicing and learning from mistakes
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “use it or lose it”! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Practice makes perfect. Good learners are also not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Developing their study skills
It is not enough to just study hard. You have to know how to study. Good learners find out the best ways to learn well. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. Good learners also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
Asking questions
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning. Learning is a life-long journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn l becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

D
If we want to learn English well, we must improve our English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. I don’t think improving our reading skills is very difficult. If you want to get the most from the study of a language, you must read for pleasure: novels, plays, travel books, etc. And when you read these kinds of books, the most important is to read the book as a whole. It is not possible for you to stop to think about every word that you don’t know. You can’t enjoy a story if you stop many times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary. That may even affect your understanding of the story.
When you read this kind of books, you’ll usually have to rely mainly on the context (上下文) to help you. If you meet a word that you don’t know, don’t take too much attention to look it up. You will probably meet it once more a few pages later in a different context, and then you can guess its meaning exactly.
The methods above may help you to improve your reading skills. Have a try!
1.According to the passage, it’s not important to look up every new word in the dictionary while __________.
A.speaking B.listening C.writing D.reading
2.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “rely”
A.查找 B.发现 C.依靠;取决于 D.重要
3.When you read, _________ may prevent understanding the story as a whole.
A.stopping half a dozen times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary
B.stopping and thinking about the meaning of the whole story
C.paying less attention to look new words up
D.getting on with the book as a whole
4.When you read novels for pleasure, _________ is the main purpose.
A.to look up new words in the dictionary
B.to grasp the meaning of the whole story
C.to pay more attention to new words
D.to think about the meaning of each new word
5.Which of the following is TRUE
A.You can enjoy a story if you stop to look up new words.
B.If you meet a word that you don’t know, you must stop.
C.When reading novels, plays, travel books and so on, it’s important to read the book as a whole.
D.The passage can tell us how to improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
【答案】51.D 52.C 53.A 54.B 55.C
【导语】本文主要介绍了阅读小说、戏剧、旅游书等书籍时,要整体去阅读,而不是时刻停下来翻字典查找生词,这会影响我们对文章的理解。此外,整体阅读也有助于改进阅读技巧。
51.细节理解题。根据“It is not possible for you to stop to think about every word that you don’t know. You can’t enjoy a story if you stop many times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary.”可知,阅读时不必遇到每个新单词都查词典。故选D。
52.词义猜测题。根据“When you read this kind of books, you’ll usually have to rely mainly on the context (上下文) to help you.”和下文可知,阅读书籍时,主要依靠上下文来猜测生词的含义;因此“rely”的含义为“依靠;取决于”。故选C。
53.细节理解题。根据“You can’t enjoy a story if you stop many times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary. That may even affect your understanding of the story.”可知,在阅读每一页时停下来去查找单词的含义也许会妨碍理解整篇故事。故选A。
54.推理判断题。根据“you must read for pleasure: novels, plays, travel books, etc. And when you read these kinds of books, the most important is to read the book as a whole.”可推知,阅读小说带来的快乐是理解整篇故事的大意,而不是每个不认识单词的含义。故选B。
55.细节理解题。根据“And when you read these kinds of books, the most important is to read the book as a whole.”可知,阅读小说、剧本、旅游书等书籍时,应把那些书当作一个整体来阅读。故选C。

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a powerful experience, offering opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Here are four effective ways to break free from the familiar and welcome new challenges.
Do one thing you’ve always wanted to
If you have a list of things you’ve always wanted to do but just haven’t gotten around to yet you’re not alone. Many people have so-called bucket lists (愿望清单) filled with meaningful experiences and goals they want to accomplish
1 This can be anything from learning how to play the piano to learning a new language or running a marathon.
2
Try a 30-day fitness challenge like running or cycling. Fitness challenges not only push you beyond your comfort zone but also improve your physical health and well-being.
Studies show that regular exercise decreases the effects of stress on the body, lowering anxiety levels. This makes it easier for you to try things outside your comfort zone, as one of the barriers to stepping outside of it is the feeling of anxiety that it triggers.
Change up your routine
3 But when someone does the same things every day, they start to feel like they are moving without thinking.
Changing your routine actively is one way to get out of that boring cycle. 4 Change up your routine and try working from a cafe or a different place in your home a few times a week.
Choose a fear, and face it
You need to be brave to step out of your comfort zone. 5
Choose one fear that’s currently holding you back and face it. You can start with something small. For example, if you’re afraid of public speaking, practice speaking up more during meetings or join a local Toastmasters club.
A.Take on a fitness challenge.
B.Improve your mental health.
C.These changes break you out of old, comfortable routines.
D.Being brave is not about removing fear but moving forward despite it.
E.Challenge yourself by picking one thing you’ve always wanted to do and doing it.
F.A routine built on good habits gives people stability and helps them get things done.
G.For example, say you’re working remotely from the comfort of your home office every day.
【答案】56.E 57.A 58.F 59.G 60.D
【导语】本文介绍了走出舒适区,迎接新挑战的方法。

57.根据“Try a 30-day fitness challenge like running or cycling”可知,进行30天的健身挑战,如跑步或骑自行车。选项A“接受健身挑战”符合语境,故选A。
58.根据“But when someone does the same things every day, they start to feel like they are moving without thinking.”可知,稳定的日常生活和工作习惯会让人感觉很舒适,但是每天都是这样,就会让人感觉自己就是移动的机器,不需要思考。选项F“建立在良好习惯之上的例行公事能给人稳定的感觉,并帮助他们完成工作”符合语境,故选F。
59.根据“Change up your routine and try working from a cafe or a different place in your home a few times a week.”可知,改变你的日常生活,试着每周在咖啡馆或家里的其他地方工作几次。选项G“例如,假设你每天都在舒适的家庭办公室远程工作”符合语境,故选G。

Improving our English reading ability is helpful to learn English well. Reading is a fun thing to do in our free time and it’s also a good way to become a better student.
We can learn numbers of new words from reading. This can help us to have a bigger and richer vocabulary. Reading is one of the best ways to increase our vocabulary and improve our grammar in a nature and fun way.
If we read a lot, we will meet many new words that we would not often use in our daily life. Reading also helps improve our writing because new words can be used in our compositions.
Another good reason to read books is that the story can take our minds to new places and help us get more open-minded. We’d better read different stories. This will get our minds wide. When we read books, we have to think over the background and persons and think of new and exciting people and places.
