三、阅读理解
A
On September 3, 2025, the sky in Beijing was blue and clear. China had a big military parade (阅兵) in the city. It was to mark the 80th year of winning the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The event had a theme: “Commemorating the Great Victory, Upholding Peace and Development”. Its aim was to remember history, respect heroes, value peace, and encourage young people.
Many people came to watch the parade. They stood on both sides of the street. Some waved small national flags. When the parade started, everyone shouted loudly for joy. The parade went on for about 70 minutes. It had 45 groups. There was an aerial flag group — they flew planes with the national flag. There were foot groups too; soldiers walked in straight lines, one step after another. Honor guards carried old battle flags, and equipment (装备) groups had big cars. Plane groups filled the sky with planes flying in neat teams.
The equipment part was very easy to notice. It showed China’s own active main battle machines. These machines were bright and strong. New-generation armored cars (装甲车) were big and had thick covers. Planes looked nice with their silver color. Unmanned machines were small but clever. All these showed China was getting better in national defense modernization (国防现代化).
A big great part was the joint military band’s show. The band had 14 rows — this stood for the 14-year resistance (反抗). There were 80 trumpet players, and they stood for the 80th anniversary. They played old war songs. The music was loud and touching. Many people listened carefully, and some even hummed with it. It was a strong way to respect history.
This parade was not just a show of military power. It was a serious promise to keep peace and learn from history. Officers said the event showed China’s progress in defense technology. It also showed China’s strong wish to help world peace. Foreign guests came, and old war soldiers came too. The old soldiers were old, but they looked proud. Their coming made this memory event important for the whole world.

A. China has achieved progress in national defense modernization.
B. China’s military equipment is mainly imported from other countries.
C. The new-generation armored cars are small but strong.

According to a new study, the Amazon rainforest (亚马逊雨林) may become grassland in a few years.
The Amazon is the world’s biggest rainforest. Climate change (气候变化) and human activities make it “sick”. Usually, the rainforest can fix itself. But now, it feels too “tired” to get better. The frees may die and the rainforest could turn into a hot, dry grassland.
Why is the Amazon “sick” The Amazon is one of the world’s wettest places. But since 2005, three droughts (干旱) have hit the rainforest. They were caused by climate change. The trees don’t have enough water to grow. What’s worse, as they become dry, they can easily catch fire.
On top of this, people cut down rainforest trees for wood. They burn the forest to make farmland. They clear trees to find minerals (矿产). All these activities have caused about 17 percent of the rainforest to disappear.
What will happen if we lose it The Amazon is like the lungs (肺) of our planet. The rich plants there take carbon dioxide (CO2, 二氧化碳) out of the air and make oxygen (氧气). They make more than 20 percent of the planet’s oxygen. If the Amazon “dies”, there will be more CO2 and our Earth will become even hotter.
The Amazon is also home to over 3 million animals and plants. Many of them can’t live anywhere else. They would very likely just disappear.
Did you know The Amazon rainforest is in South America. It covers 5.5 million square kilometers. That’s about half the size of China! The Amazon River runs through the rainforest. It’s the world’s second longest river. The Amazon covers much of Brazil. The green color on the country’s national flag means the rainforest.
1. What does the new study show
A. The Amazon rainforest was once grassland.
B. Rainforests can speedup climate change.
C. The Amazon will have few trees in the future.
D. Many people enjoy activities in the Amazon rainforest.
2. How do droughts make the Amazon rainforest “sick”
a. They make plants grow more slowly. b. They cause climate change.
c. They make the grass in the forest grow faster. d. They make it easier for the forest to catch fire.
A. ab B. bc C. cd D. ad
3. What does the word “disappear” in the story mean
A. be gone B. stay useful C. become hotter D. come back to life
4. Why is the Amazon called “the lungs” of Earth
A. Because it makes over one-fifth of Earth’s oxygen.
B. Because it has 17 percent of Earth’s minerals.
C. Because people and animals can breathe more easily there.
D. Because it is the coolest place on Earth.
5. What does the writer want to show with the last two paragraphs
A. The future of our planet. B. The importance of the Amazon.
C. The real cause of climate change. D. The reason for animals to live in the Amazon.

On the evening of August 16, 2025, Pang Zhongwang, a doctoral student from Tsinghua University, was named a “Touching China” 2024 Awardee. His story — from a young man who beat great hardships to an inspiring person — has warmed and encouraged many people.
Pang was born into a poor family and faced big difficulties. His father has a mental illness, and his mother was born with a disease and had her legs cut off, so she can hardly move. Pang himself had a heart problem from birth. To help his family, he went to many houses to borrow money for his mother’s treatment and picked up old things to pay the family’s debts. But he stayed happy and believed, “Knowledge changes life.” So when in school, Pang studied very hard. Every day, he walked a long way to go to school. Even if he only had a small light, he still studied late at night. He always became one of the top students in his class.
In 2017, Pang took the gaokao. He got an amazing score of 684 points! He was successful in being accepted into Tsinghua University. At the University, he chose to learn engineering. He continued to work hard and studied diligently as always. Sadly, his mother died in 2020. That was just before he got the chance to study for a doctorate at Tsinghua. His mother named him “Zhongwang,” which means “the hope of all.” She told him to always look forward. “Mom smiles every day — why should I feel sad ”. Actually, he did very well in his studies and later became a PhD student. He took part in important research projects and even invented new technologies. Now, he has three national patents for his inventions, and his work is helpful in areas like environmental monitoring and disaster warning systems.
Pang never forgot where he came from. After he succeeded, he used his success to help others. He donated money to help poor children go to school, and he also supported health funds for kids who have heart diseases. Besides, he became a tourism ambassador (旅游形象大使) for his hometown because he wanted to help promote the local culture and economy.
As the award speech says: “You leave hardships behind, face life with a smile, and move forward with strength.” Pang’s life tells us that if we are strong and have hope, we can all live up to expectations and create our own brilliance.

Their life depended on Nello’s grandpa. Every morning, the old man would collect fresh milk from one house to another. He then had to load (装载) the milk on a cart and sent it to the city. Growing up a little older, Nello would try to help his grandpa to travel from Flanders to the city.
One day, as Nello and his grandpa were going home from the city they saw a large dog lying on the side of the road. The dog was motionless.
“What happened ” asked Nello. “Is the dog dead ” His grandpa touched the nose of the dog with his hand and examined the body of the dog. He then said to Nello, “The dog is seriously ill. The fact was that the dog was abandoned (抛弃) by his master because of his serious illness. Seeing the dying dog, Nello was heart-broken. The kind hearted boy took good care of him. His life was like a submarine in the deep sea — silent, but with limitless power. In 1958, because of his political qualities and professional (专业的) skills, Huang was secretly called to Beijing, where he devoted himself to China’s nuclear submarine research for about 30 years.
In the beginning, he and the research team faced many challenges, but they never gave up. They worked together and overcame many difficulties, pushing forward the development of the nuclear submarine. In 1970, they developed the first Type 091, making China the fifth nation to have such a submarine.
Huang also cared about the long-term development of national science and technology and the growth of future generations. He generously donated over 20 million yuan to scientific research. Even in his 90s, Huang used to visit his office every weekday to review and organize materials and give advice to young researchers on technical problems.
Thanks to his amazing contributions, Huang was given the Medal of the Republic (共和国), China’s highest honor (荣誉), in 2019.
