二.阅读理解(共5小题)
2.No poem should be discussed or"analyzed"until it has been read aloud by someone, teachers.or students.Better still, perhaps,is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end,so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it.
All discussions of poetry are,in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is,finally, the most telling"interpretation"of it,suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once.Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice,on records or on films,is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching cannot replace the student and teacher reading it or.best of all, reciting it.
I have come to think,in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than "analyzing"it if there isn't time for both.I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry.Poetry is"a criticism of life"and"a heightening(提升) of life".It is"an approach to the truth of feeling",and it"saves your life".It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.
Not that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don't like it should not be forced to put that dislike on anyone else. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential(基本的) nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room at class for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.
(1)To have a better understanding of a poem,one should .
A.discuss it with others
B.practise reading it aloud
C.write it down in a notebook
D.analyze it by oneself
(2)What does the underlined sentence imply?
A.More stress should be laid on the teaching of poetry.
B.Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses.
C.One cannot enjoy life fully without learning poetry and literature.
D.Poetry is more important than any other subject taught at school.
(3)According to the passage, the writer believes that .
A.reading a poem aloud is making preparations for discussion
B.hearing a poem read by the poet himself or herself is unbelievable
C.the analysis of a poem should be placed second to reading it aloud
D.there must be a space for students to discuss poetry in the classroom
3.A simple project to help a family in need stopped Luck Mickelson in his tracks. In 2012,he and his family were inspired to build and donate a bunk bed,one bed on top of the other, after learning there were local children who slept on the floor.Shocked to discover how widespread this need was in his community,Mickelson founded Sleep in Heavenly Peace,a nonprofit that builds and delivers beds to children in need.
Born and raised in Idaho,Mickelson, now 41,had a thriving career. He coached his kids' sports teams and fished in the nearby river. But when he met children who were sleeping on the floor, his peaceful life changed course.
Using safety guidelines and his daughter's bunk bed as a model,Mickelson started buying wood and supplies to build beds with his own money. He recruited friends and family members to help around the holidays. As the word spread, interest and involvement from his and other communities flooded﹣along with Mickelson's bunk bed output. "That first project,we built 11 bunk beds in my garage," he said. "The next year,we did 15.Then it doubled every year.we built 612 bunk beds."
With the motto "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town",the nonprofit and its more than 65 branches have built and delivered more than 1,500 free beds to children across America. But along with the rapid growth,Mickelson was faced with a tough choice:advancing his career or his nonprofit. He chose the latter and went from making "great money to zero money".He's never looked back. "I found that the need I have isn't financial," he said. "The need I have is seeing the joy on kids' faces, knowing that I can make a difference."

6.I began writing poems fifteen years ago while I was in college. One day I was in the library, working on a term paper, when I came across a book of contemporary poetry.I don't remember the title of the book or any of the titles of the poems except one:Frankenstein's Daughter. The poem was wild, almost rude, and nothing like the rhyme﹣and﹣meter poetry I had read in high school.I had always thought that poetry was flowery writing about sunsets and walks on the beach, but that library book contained direct and sometimes shocking poetry about dogs, junked cars, rundown houses.I checked the book out, curious to read more.
Soon afterward,I started filling a notebook with my own poems. At first,I was scared, partly because my poetry teacher was a serious and strict man who could see the errors in my poems. Also,I realized the seriousness of my devotion.I gave up geography to study poetry, which many friends said offered no future.I ignored them because I liked working with words, using them to reconstruct the past, which has always been a source of poetry for me.
When I first studied poetry,I was single﹣minded,I woke to poetry and went to bed with poetry.I memorized poems, read about English poets because I was told they would help shape my poems.and read classical Chinese poetry because I was told that it would add clarity to my work.
But I was most taken by the Spanish and Latin American poets, particularly Pablo Neruda. My favorites of his were the odes(颂诗,颂歌),short﹣lined poems celebrating common things like tomatoes, socks and scissors.I felt joyful when I read these odes, and when I began to write my own poems,I tried to remain faithful to the common things of my childhood—dogs, alleys(小巷),my baseball mitt(手套) and the fruit of the valley, especially the orange.I wanted to give these things life,to write so well that my poems would express their beauty.Later I with my family went back to my hometown,a small town in the San Joaquin Valley. You might think it hard to believe, but the observations and images of nature there literally brought me inspiration.Since then,I never stopped writing poems.

15.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事.
Standing in front of the mirror one day,I came to the disturbing realization that I fell short of the requirements of my dream. The reflection that stared back was of a skinny brown﹣haired girl who stood a mere five feet tall.My entire life had been about dedication and trying to be the best dancer in my studio.I'd always had brilliant dreams and high ambitions.I never noticed how hard it might be to achieve something that you really wanted. Most people spend their whole lives searching for their calling, but I've known that I was born to be a dancer since I met my brilliant inspiring mentor,Lorie Bernier,5 feet 1 inch.I've devoted sixteen years to helping my dream come true to be a lifelong dance teacher at my studio.
Last summer I attended an audition class in Boston taught by a highly respected Broadway dancer. At this seminar he explained the procedures for getting into a dance company. While listening and taking notes,I was thinking that I certainly had the experience, but there was one area where I didn't quite measure up.He informed us that at most auditions all dancers under 5 feet 6 inches are automatically eliminated or simply overlooked. He said that most casting directors were looking for the stereotyped dancer with long legs,a long neck and a size one waist.Standing half a foot under this height,I felt my heart drop to the floor.
It is really hard to listen to someone basically telling you,"Sorry, but you've been working really hard for sixteen years for nothing,so find a new dream." Unfortunately,it just doesn't work that day.Dancing isn't just a hobby for me;it's more like an addiction.I exhibit every step heart and soul.Through dance I find a sense of pride and satisfaction that I don't think anyone could understand or appreciate. To have all that I've ever wanted instantly shot down created a sick feeling in my stomach.

(1)To have a better understanding of a poem,one should B .
A.discuss it with others
B.practise reading it aloud
C.write it down in a notebook
D.analyze it by oneself
(2)What does the underlined sentence imply? A
A.More stress should be laid on the teaching of poetry.
B.Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses.
C.One cannot enjoy life fully without learning poetry and literature.
D.Poetry is more important than any other subject taught at school.
(3)According to the passage,the writer believes that C .
A.reading a poem aloud is making preparations for discussion
B.hearing a poem read by the poet himself or herself is unbelievable
C.the analysis of a poem should be placed second to reading it aloud
D.there must be a space for students to discuss poetry in the classroom

The poem was wild, almost rude, and nothing like the rhyme﹣and﹣meter poetry I had read in high school.(这首诗很狂野,几乎是粗鲁的,一点也不像我在高中读过的押韵和韵律的诗。)可知,作者在高中所学的诗歌形式与图书馆中所接触的这首诗歌差别很大,属于完全不同的诗歌类型。说明作者开始接触不同类型的诗歌了。故选C。
(2)D.词义猜测题。根据最后一段中You might think it hard to believe, but the observations and images of nature there literally brought me inspiration.(你可能觉得难以置信,但那里对自然的观察和图像确实给我带来了灵感。)的hard to believe"难以置信"可知,划线部分单词的意思与之对应,意思是"确实地,真正地"。A.Theoretically理论地;B.Excitedly激动地;C.Hardly几乎不;D.Really确实地。故选D。

(4)A.主旨大意题。本文是一篇记叙文,作者从第一段中在图书馆看到一本新的诗歌引入话题,详细介绍了自己学习诗歌的经历以及自己所喜欢的一些诗人和诗歌。A选项The author's experiences with poetry(作者的诗歌经历)体现了本文的中心大意。故选A。
