I hit a stranger as he walked by me. “Oh, excuse me,” I said. He replied with a smile and said, “Please excuse me, too. I wasn't watching out for you.” We said sorry to each other and went our own ways.
Later that day, when I was cooking, my daughter was standing too close to me. When I turned to reach for some milk, I nearly knocked her over.
“Move out of the way!” I shouted. She walked away sadly. While I was in bed that evening, my husband said to me, “While dealing with a stranger, you were polite, but with the daughter you love, you were unkind. Your daughter brought you some flowers that she picked herself this afternoon. You'll find them in the kitchen by the door.”
I quietly went to my daughter's bed. “Dear, I'm so sorry,” I said. “Are these the flowers you picked for me ”
She said, “I found them by the tree. I picked them because they're pretty like you. I knew you'd like them.”
I replied, “I'm really sorry for the way I acted today. I shouldn't have shouted at you.”
“It's okay. I love you anyway,” she said as she kissed me.
It's important and necessary for us to be kind to our loved ones. People can live in a happy family if they do like this.

A school used to organize a fun trip for its students every year. This year the trip is as usual. Everyone was excited about the trip.
On the way, they must drive through a tunnel (隧道). Then they could reach their final place. On reaching the tunnel, the bus driver saw a board. It said “The height of the tunnel is 5 meters.”. The bus is also nearly 5meters high. The driver had gone through it many times, so he didn't stop the bus.
However, the bus got stuck (卡住) somewhere in the middle this time. This scared children. When teachers questioned, the bus driver said, “Every year I drive through the tunnel without any problem.”
Then a man got there, “Recently, this road has been repaired. So the level of the road has been raised a little.”
Then they tried some different usual ways, but they all failed at last. Suddenly, a child said, “Why not let out some air from tires (轮胎) ”

根据短文内容,在下面的表格中填入与文章意思最符合的单词。每空一词。
As the saying goes, “Your tongue has the power of life and death.” This means that your words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.
We may all experience the power of words in our life, even when we were very young. A child is blamed(责备) by teachers or parents, and after that, he might probably think of himself as a bad child. Most kids have that experience. They say it is important to praise children four times for each negative(负面的) word. Blaming will make things worse, while positive words are helpful especially when being in trouble or in need. When we fail the exam, encouraging words from our teachers or parents make us work harder at our lessons.
Encouraging words can go quite a long way. They lift people up. For example, encouraging words to someone who is sad can help them make it through the day. Words can have a powerful effect on your brain. And it will in turn(相应地) have a great influence on your action.
Everything you do depends on the choice(选择) you make. It’s not your parents, your past relationships or your job, but you and only you that are responsible for every goal you set. If you have dreams in life, write them down and speak them out. Your words are likely to bring out something amazing.
The Power of WordsYour words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.
Example 1 7 being blamed, a child may probably think of himself as a bad child. Example 2 Encouraging words make students who can’t 8 the exam work harder at lessons.
Example 3Encouraging words help 9 people make it through the day.
·Words have a powerful effect on your brain, and in turn it influences your action 10 . ·Everything you do depends on what you 11 to do.
Your words are likely to bring out something amazing.
My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone
When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time
As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的).
One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone.
Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me.
However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes—changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved.
I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares.
Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.

There are some apologetic terms (表示歉意的用语) in English. It seems that they mean the same thing. They almost do. However, what’s the difference between “Pardon ”, “I’m sorry”, “Excuse me” and “What ”.
Pardon
Americans don’t really use “Pardon ”. If you do, they will probably joke that you’re trying to sound pretentious (炫耀的) or joke that you’re British.
I’m sorry.
We often use “I’m sorry” for past events. That’s to say, it is generally used to apologize for something you have already done. For example, if you step on someone’s foot on a crowded bus, you would say “I’m sorry” or “Sorry”.
Excuse me.
This is generally a term to ask permission (允许) for something. For example, you’re walking through a crowded space and someone is in your way. You would say “Excuse me” to ask him/her to move out of your way.
What
Americans usually use it to ask someone to repeat himself/herself. If you want to be politer, you could say, I’m sorry, what was that ” or “Excuse me, what did you say ” or any other such thing. Most Americans just say “What ” though.
In our daily life, we can also use these terms by mixing them up. You could, for example, ask someone to move by saying “Sorry, would you mind moving ” It’s an extra-polite way to make your request.

“Achoo!”
“Bless you.”
This is a common exchange in English-speaking countries. When you hear someone else sneeze (打喷嚏), it is polite to say “bless you”, to which they should reply with “thank you”. But where does this custom (习俗) come from
In fact, it dates back to medieval (中世纪的) Europe, specifically, the time of the bubonic plague (黑死病). The plague killed nearly one-third of Europe’s population within six years (1347-1353). The first symptom (症状) of the bubonic plague was sneezing. At that time, people believed that if you sneezed, your soul (灵魂) might leave your body.
People didn’t know how to treat the bubonic plague. They were simply encouraged to say “God bless you” and do other superstitious (迷信的) things, hoping the soul would go back into the body. And over time, “God bless you” was shortened to “bless you”.
Of course, in modern times, we know that sneezing has nothing to do with the soul or any other superstitious things. But just like so many other customs from the past, saying “bless you” has stayed with us for hundreds of years.
But you may be wondering — what if someone sneezes more than once Well, you don't have to keep saying “bless you”. In fact, if someone sneezes more than twice, or sneezes especially loudly, you may want to ask them if they’re OK.
Then again, you don’t really need to say anything at all. People won't think you’re impolite if you forget to say “bless you”. But they will also thank it if you do.

28.How did people treat the bubonic plague in the past
29.How long has “bless you” stayed with us

As is well known, saying “no” is not easy at all. But sometimes we have to learn to say “no”. To learn to say “no”, we have to first understand what’s stopping us about it. There are some common reasons why people find it hard to say “no”.
You want to help others. You are a kind soul (灵魂) at heart. You don’t want to turn the person away and you want to help when possible, even if it may take up your time.
Afraid of being rude. I was brought up under the idea that saying “no”, especially to people who are older, is rude. This thinking is common in Asian culture, where face-saving is important. It means not making others look bad or lose faces.
Wanting to be agreeable. At times, you find you are not in agreement. You don’t want to keep yourself away from the group, so you agree to do others’ requests (请求).
Fear of conflict (冲突). The person might be angry if you refuse him. This might lead to an ugly conflict. Even if there isn’t, there might be disagreement which might lead to bad effects (影响) in the future.
Fear of losing opportunities (机会). Sometimes, saying “no” means closing doors or losing opportunities. It may make you feel worried. For example, one of my friends was asked to work in another department (部门) in her company (公司). Since she liked her team, she didn’t want to go. Just as in face-to-face communication, there are some basic rules of behavior that should be followed on the Internet. The basic rule is simple: (1)treat others in the same way you would want to be treated. Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes.

Everyone was new to the network once. Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, be kind about it. If you do decide to tell someone about the mistake, point it out politely. At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended(冒犯). But have you ever thought of creating art in the fields? In Japan, every year farmers plant different types and colors of rice to "grow" huge pictures in the fields. This is called Tanbo Art. It started in 1993. At that time the village of Inakadate was trying to do something to help the local economy. They needed a way to attract tourists and then the rice field art came into being. During the first few years, the farmers created simple pictures. Later they created more complex designs.
Every April, the villagers meet and decide what to plant for the year. Before planting, farmers design the pictures on computers to figure out where and how to plant the rice. After that, farmers plant different types of rice in different areas of fields. When rice grows tall, different colors will appear in the fields.
Following Inakadate's steps, other villages have started to create their own Tanbo Art. They compete with each other in creativity. Some cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh appear in the rice fields.

Every year, more than nine million people all over the world come to visit London. They go to the museums and theaters; they look at interesting old buildings or have a drink in a park.
A quick and easy way to get to different places in the city is to take an underground train. The London underground is one of the best and most widely used transport networks (网状组织) in the world. The trains run all day and most of the night. 1. You’d better not take the underground between eight o’clock and ten o’clock in the morning, or four o’clock and six o’clock in the afternoon. 2. The trains are so crowded that you can hardly move or find a place to sit.
