A Labor Experience
As we all know, labor plays an important role in the healthy growth of us students. So I went to work in a restaurant last summer vacation.
I had to get up early and kept working till midnight every day.As a cleaner, the work was hard and boring.I almost gave up halfway.Fortunately, one of my workmates was very humorous. He often told jokes to make me laugh and helped me overcome difficulties.Because of my outstanding work, the manager was very satisfied with me.
Although I was very tired then,it has helped me understand the meaning of labor better than ever.I have been determined to do another part-time job this summer vacation.

Mark thought a lot about his habits. He realized that these bad habits always made him feel tired because he couldn't get enough sleep. So he set himself a goal that he just could watch TV or play video games for 30 minutes every day,and he should go to bed before 10 o'clock at night.“I'm happy that I decided to make changes.Developing good habits is good for my health,”he said to himself.
What about other changes Now that Mark became healthier,he tried to make changes in other fields, especially his study.Mark got low marks in his class, but he knew he could make progress if he studied harder. He spent more time reading books and paid more attention to his schoolwork. When he had difficulty in his study,he encouraged himself to make efforts to solve it or asked others for help. Finally,he became an excellent student.

Ever since Lucy Nabiki Takona was a young girl growing up in a village in Kenya, she has knew she wanted to have a career in education.
So when her father told her when she was 14 that she would have to drop out of school to marry the son of her father's friend, she ran away.It took her three days to walk through the bush to her aunt's house.
“I was used to walking,so for me it was not something big,”Takona says.“It was more scary to get married than walk on my own in the bush.”
Later,Takona's aunt talked to some influential elders in the community who were able to persuade her father to let her continue her schooling—while schooling for many Masai girls ends in their early teen years.
As a child,Takona says, she thought her only career option as a woman was to be a teacher. But during a trip to the Nairobi National Museum in her last year of high school, she realized there were other possibilities.“A woman took us around the museum and she really had knowledge,so from that day forward I knew girls' career option could be something more than a teacher,”Takona says.
So she went to study at the Koiyaki Guiding School for two years on a scholarship from a volunteer travel organization African Impact. She then worked for the group as a guide for 18 months in return.
But on the road to success,Takona has had to make personal sacrifices. She is the single mother of a 4-year-old boy.“It's rare in a Masai community to be an independent woman,”says Evaline Sintoya Mayetu, who was the first Masai woman to get the Silver Guide Qualification in March 2015.“I would like to see more Masai women not only go for the Silver Guide Qualification but go to school,to have a career of their own and break some barriers of traditional culture.”

Hard work really does pay off.Scientists find that perseverance leads to better grades and higher achievements in school.
“Being passionate is not enough to ensure academic success,”says researchers, who thought of“courage”as a key to success. This is also regarded as effort in reaching long-term goals, and determination to continue one's efforts in spite of hardships.
Researchers think that the finding could help create new training to help children develop the skill and help ensure their future success.
Researchers from the Academy of Finland studied more than 2,000 students from Helsinki. They were followed through their academic career from 12 to 16,the sixth grade until the ninth grade in local school years.Researchers found that the factor that best predicts courage was related to goals, with previous academic achievements playing no role in developing the skill.
Professor Katariina Salmela-Aro,who led the study, said,“Courage means a young person is really interested in his or her studies and does not give up easily.A key element of courage is high perseverance when facing difficulties and hardships. The important finding is that these factors are the key to success and well-being.Our study shows the power of courage.”
Professor Salmela-Aro also thinks it is important to develop new practices and qualities to improve courage in teenagers. She added,“Young people should see everyday schoolwork as part of their life in a broader context and establish achievable goals for themselves.Schools must also serve as a place where it is safe to fail and learn to deal with setbacks. One must not be discouraged by setbacks, but draw strength and new energy from them.”

“This year is going to be different,”Mark told himself every year.He always said that he would start exercising more and eating less.Every year he made the same resolution (决定),but every year he failed to keep it.However, this year Mark knew it was going to be different because he decided to make changes to his resolution. He learned that it should be more specific for his goal.Only in this way could he be more focused and know exactly where to begin.
Losing weight by taking exercise is very common.Without guidance,Mark was less likely to reach his goal. This year he decided to run at least one mile every day, which was easy for him.He also said that he tried to eat at least five apples a week.It could be realized since Mark used to eat two apples per week at most.As weeks went on,Mark found it easier to keep his resolution because he knew what he had to do.In the past,he would exercise once in a while and be on a diet only sometimes. He did not have a plan on what he was going to do at that time.
Now he did so well that he reached his goal.He felt great about the changes he was making;he felt happier and healthier gradually. He also thought about other things he could do to improve his health. This resolution encouraged him to sleep earlier and drink more water. In the past,he usually watched TV programs for a long time at night. He knew some TV series were boring, but he just couldn't get up from the sofa because it felt so good. After that he played some video games before going to sleep.Sometimes he forgot about time and went to bed very late.No wonder he felt tired the next morning.
