Has a person ever warmly held a door open for you How do you feel after playing with friends And what would you say is your favorite family memory These questions have one thing in common: they’re all about connecting with people. “Let’s Connect” is the theme of this year’s Children’s Mental (心理的) Health week. It improves mental health by building healthy social connections.
Humans naturally connect with others, whether that’s family, friends or people in our community. Healthy connections give people energy and support—we all need people to celebrate and share our worries with. Social connections aren’t just about mental health; they improve physical health too, helping us to live a long life.
Then how to connect with others “You can reach out and connect with people in so many different ways,” says Julia Clements. the organizer behind Children’s Mental Health Week. You can connect in person or online, with your friends, parents, teachers or classmates. It’s not just people, either. “Some people feel connected with their pets or in nature,” says Clements. She agrees talking to others can be helpful to a lonely person. She advises making time to build more connections through actions as well as words.
Everybody may feel lonely sometimes and refuse to talk to others. “Remember that there are always people that care for you,” advises Clements. She says it’s important to tell someone you trust about how you are feeling, or safe organizations such as Helpline or Shout. They can really help.
1.What do the three questions in the beginning have in common
2.Why are healthy social connections important for us
3.How does Clements advise making time to build more connections

As a fan of computer science, Zeng Guolai wanted to buy a classic book about computers. But his parents turned him down. “You won’t have time to read it,” they said.
However, this 16-year-old from the High School finally got it—by lying. As he said the book was required by his school, his parents agreed.
Many teenagers have had similar experiences to Zeng’s. They have lied to their parents for different reasons including getting things they want, staying away from criticism (批评), and winning their parents’ praise (表扬).
But there are some main reasons behind this situation, said Wang Bing, a famous teacher in mental health at Peking University. When students are becoming independent and want more freedom, parents just don’t let go.
“For teenagers, lying seems to be a good way to get freedom and students don’t want to have arguments with their parents, either,” Wang told the newspaper.
In fact, as children grow up, they have less communication with their parents which leads to less mutual (相互的) trust. This is also an important reason for lying, as Wang mentioned.
But unlike many parents who see telling lies as a signal of children becoming rebellious (叛逆的) or “bad”, Wang believed that this action should hardly be called a “moral (道德的) problem”. Rather (相反), it is a way for teenagers to step into the adults’ world—They have long been told to do things, but as they are growing up, they want to challenge social rules and see the results.
Parents should walk in their children’s shoes and guide their children to think positively (正面地), rather than (而不是) simply blame (责备) them when things go wrong. As for teenagers, ________.
5.Did Zeng Guolai get the book he wanted at last
6.Why did many teenagers lie to their parents just like Zeng
7.According to Wang Bing, what are the main reasons why teens lie to their parents
8.What would the writer say at the end of the text (at least 2 points)

In summer, the high heat always makes you feel uncomfortable. Have you ever thought about getting through the hot summer without air conditioning (空调) Actually, to stay cool and comfortable, you can try lots of natural ways, including water, fans, cool drinks, and more. Here let’s see how to use water to cool down.
Drink water more often. Your body will feel cooler if you do that. Try drinking at least eight bottles of water every day. Adding orange, lemon, or tomato pieces to your water makes it more refreshing. 9
Freeze a handkerchief (手帕) and put it on your neck, forehead, arms or legs. 10 When the handkerchief heats up, simply wet it and put it back in the fridge. You can also put an icepack behind your head.
Run cold water over your wrists (手腕). Wet your wrists and other parts, such as your neck and your inner elbows, with cool water for 10 seconds each. This will lower your temperature for a little bit. 11 This can be especially helpful for cooling down right before you go to bed.
Fill your bathtub (浴缸) with cool water and get in. Once you are used to the temperature, let some water out and refill it with cold water. Keep doing this until you feel cool enough. 12
With the right ways, you can avoid the heat while saving money by turning off the air conditioning.
A.Take a cool shower, if you prefer. B.So you should drink more water in summer. C. Placing it on your body can help you beat the heat. D.It may be easier to drink more if your water has a taste. E. Your body will stay cool for a long time after you get out.

Did you have an experience of going from one after school class to another on weekends Chinese students used to be busier on weekends than weekdays, because they had to take so many after school classes. Many of them spent a lot of time on these classes to learn exam skills.
But Ma Xiaohua, a student from Grade 8 in Zhengzhou, spent a winter holiday that was quite different last year. “I felt more relaxed this holiday, because the homework is clearly much less and more enjoyable,” said Ma. Things like doing some housework, making an English video to introduce a Chinese custom, and reading aloud Home Letters by Fu Lei were part of her winter holiday homework. Ma found herself doing more practice based (基于实践的) learning instead of always having her nose to workbooks. Another big difference for her was that she didn’t have after school classes anymore. “This gives me more time to play badminton and get healthier,” she said.
Like Ma, junior high school students welcomed the changes, as they don’t feel that stressed (有压力的). However, it doesn’t mean schoolwork isn’t important anymore. Some students feel worried about the changes. “I used to take many after school classes, but now I lose instruction (指导).” said ninth grader Zhou Xiuwei from Nanjing. “So I felt more stressed this holiday. I can only depend on myself.”

Maybe you usually hate school. This feeling may last long. It is said that you have much pressure. Sometimes it’s a problem with your classes and schoolwork. Maybe the work is too easy and you get bored. Or maybe the work is too hard, or you don’t feel as happy as the other students. In a long time, and it may seem that you will never catch up with others. When you know why you don’t like school, you can do like this.
It’s a good idea to talk to someone about your problems. Your mom, dad, friends, teachers, or even classmates will be able to help you.
Another good idea is to write down the feeling about school. For example, keep a diary or write in a notebook. It is a good way to let your hating-school feelings out. And you don’t have to share it with others. The next time you find yourself hating school, this will also help you.
Make a list of everything that you hate or enjoy—even there is only one thing. See what you can do to let it out. We should try to pay attention to our hobbies, and you might be able to put the good feeling back in school!

Dear Dr. Lin,
I’m really helpless recently. My son Jack is 15 years old. I find that the older he grows, the less we talk. He refuses to communicate with me. I feel very sad and I really need help.
My first problem is about his hobby. He spends almost all his spare time on computer games. When he gets home, he always turns on the computer and closes the door. I’m getting worried about him, especially when his English teacher tells me he always gets low marks in the English exams.
Second, he is crazy about electronic products (电子产品), but I don’t have enough money and I can’t afford all the things he wants. Yesterday, he asked me for a new iPhone, but I refused. We then had an argument.
Recently, I’ve found that he is always alone. I’ve never seen him talking to his friends on the phone or going out with anyone on weekends. He seems to have few friends. This is really abnormal for a teenager. I don’t know what to do now. Sometimes I can only cry alone. I need your help. Can you talk with him
Yours,
May

Most of you have had this experience. When you are doing something, you forget the time, and everything around you—like ringing phones or people passing by—also seems to go away because you lose yourself in it.
This special state of mind is called “flow” (心流). The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist (心理学家) Mihaly. According to his discovery, if the task (任务) is challenging and people believe they have enough skills, flow will happen.
What advantages (优点) does flow bring Artists said that they could create more works easily without putting in much effort in the flow state. It can also offer people greater levels of happiness and satisfaction. Flow often happens during creative activities and sports activities. But it isn’t just something experienced by artists, writers or sports persons. Flow can happen when a person is deeply lost in a task, such as working hard to finish a physics test, practicing English dialogues again and again, or even solving a difficult math problem.
Many people want to get into a flow state more often in daily life. To make this happen, you can try to make a clear plan for your task, like deciding “I’ll finish three math exercises in 30 minutes” before you start. Second, if you’re good at English, try writing a short story with 5 new words instead of just copying sentences. What’s more, ask your teacher or classmates for feedback after finishing, such as “Is this physics problem solved the right way ” and fix your mistakes quickly.
When “flow” happens in us, we may forget the time and things around us because 33 . This state of mind can bring many advantages like higher efficiency and greater levels of satisfaction. Good sleep is important for everyone, and it is really important for teenagers. They need 9 to 10 hours of sleep each day—more than adults, said the US National Institute of Health. This is because adolescence (青春期) is a time of great growth and change.
Scientists did a study. There were two groups: one group slept well, while the other one didn’t. Then, they compared the creative performance (表现) between the two groups. The second group did worse in creative thinking. They couldn’t think of new ideas.
For students, enough sleep plays a key role. It helps them create good feelings and learn better in class. It also helps them become more creative.
However, most of the young students face sleep problems. They can’t get enough sleep. Keep reading to learn some of their stories and find useful advice on better sleep!
Emma, 14 years old I can’t sleep well when I study for exams. My mind races with worries. To get enough sleep, I write down my worries on paper before bed to clear my thoughts. Besides, I do some simple exercise to relax my body. Sometimes when I talk to friends or family about my feelings, I feel peaceful.
Tom, 14 years old I used to stay up very late because of school homework. I often couldn’t go to sleep until midnight. Then my teacher told me the way to make good use of my time. Now I do homework right after dinner and take short breaks every 30 minutes. Before bed, I always listen to natural sounds like the sounds of rain or birds for 15 minutes. And I can fall asleep 2 hours earlier than before.
Jack, 15 years old Tests make me so nervous that I always wake up in the middle of the night, and I can’t fall asleep again. Last month, I moved my desk away from my bed. This way, I can stop myself from thinking about schoolwork when I’m trying to sleep. The small change makes my sleep deeper and longer.

38.What did the study in the text box try to find out

Screen-Free Days
I remember the first time I suggested screen-free days in our school to some of our student leaders. I said to the group, “What do you think if we go a week without using our laptops or smartphones ”
They laughed, and one of them said, “No way, Mr. White. It would be too much.” I could feel their worry.
According to a survey we did, most students in our school spend about six hours a day on screens. Many of my students start their day by checking their smartphones. I often see them looking at their phones when getting off the bus—they can’t use their own “screens” at school.
It’s clear that our students spend a lot of time on screens. We do see the benefits of technology. However, we teachers also want students to manage learning and social experiences at the same time. That’s why we have come up with the idea of screen-free days.
This year, we had several screen-free days and they need us to make different plans for our students about how they will communicate with one another and the world around them without “screens”. For some teachers, this means bringing back a valuable lesson plan that has been put off for some time because it is “out of date”. Others have designed something completely new.
Fun activities, for example, card games and room escape (密室逃脱) games, are organized at school. In these activities, students socialize (社交) without smartphones and have face-to-face communication without checking on “likes” they’ve got online. These fun activities also make it possible for the whole grade to enjoy the company of their friends with no smartphones.
After our first screen-free day, students mentioned that they were surprised they enjoyed it. Finding ways to help our students connect with one another is important.
While technology is already part of our world, it shouldn’t play such an important role in a learner’s life.
42.How many hours do most students in the school spend on screens every day
43.Why have the teachers come up with the idea of screen-free days
44.What fun activities can the students have at school
45.How did the students feel after the first screen-free day
46.What do you think of the idea of screen-free days Why do you think so

In our life, many people may have a mental (心理的) problem. Some people may get over it, but others may not go away easily.
“These days, students spend most of their time studying and building up relationships with classmates and teachers. With more people, the competition is harder at school,” the WHO said. A study also found that students’ unhappiness came from the Internet. “Online, teenagers often see messages about perfection (完美) and these make them get worried about themselves for not being the best. But they shouldn’t worry about such things at all,” said an expert.
Some doctors also say that teenagers don’t ask for help when they have mental problems. They are afraid that others will laugh at them. And in the UK, over 75 percent of teenagers believe having mental problems is their own problem. A study showed in 2017 that a quarter of teenagers in the UK wouldn’t ask for help if they had a mental problem. “I don’t want others, even the doctors, to know what I’m thinking. So, I may help myself out,” some teenagers said.
“These people may be creating problems for themselves in the future,” the expert said. “My advice for teenagers is, if you feel something is wrong, just ask for help. The earlier you ask, the better you will get.”

Do you have exam stress (压力) Exam time is the most stressful time of the year. You have worked all school term in your classes and now it’s the time to prove (证明) what you have learned. In fact, it’s common for most of us to have exam stress. A little bit of stress can be a good thing. If we have proper (适当的) stress, we can think actively and work harder. Besides, it can help us to focus (聚焦) on the preparation of exams. However, if we can’t deal with stress well, we may make things worse.
When I was in school, I used to get very stressed over my exams. So did my friends. Some of them stopped eating and others ate too much! Some gave up and others burned themselves out! But the most important thing to remember when studying is not to feel frightened! Take the middle path (路线)—stay calm, eat healthy and get a rest. Pushing yourself too hard is just as dangerous as not studying enough. A tired, overworked brain is just as useless as a lazy, empty one!
So, what should you do Set a time each day for study and a time for relaxation. You may have less time to relax than usual, but you still need to let your brain rest for a few moments. Get plenty of sleep. If you are tired, information will not stick in your memory.
It does no good to think too much about your exams. Some students may think that the rest of their life depends on exams. That’s not true. Instead, just see the exams as another difficulty you will overcome (克服). 到目前为止,你已经克服了你生活中各种各样的困难。With the right amount of work and focus, you will pass your exams with flying colors!

53.Why should you get plenty of sleep during exam time

Chinese and US students know each other better through exchanges
百闻不如一见,中美学生深入交流,消除误解
There is a big difference between knowing a country from social media and experiencing it in person. This is what students from the US and China discovered during an eight-day exchange journey.
From March 24 to 31, a group of 15 students from the US went on an educational and cultural exchange in China.
For Ian Sierra, a 15-year-old 10th grader, this was his first time going abroad. While in Beijing, Sierra bravely tried douzhi, a fermented (发酵的) bean juice. It is a challenge even for locals. Surprisingly, he finished three bowls in a row (连续).
Apart from Chinese food, Sierra loved the exchange and homestay program at Beijing No 4 High School International Campus (BHSFIC).
“I tried out table tennis after classes ended, and the Chinese students played like [professionals],” he said. “In the States, students usually [do] sports through clubs and sports teams ... Sports are more [for fun] here.”
The learning was two-sided. Li Weiyou, a 15-year-old student from BHSFIC and Michael Sosa’s homestay partner, was surprised by his American peer (同龄人).
“Before I knew Michael, I thought US students were more focused on personal development than academics (学业). But Michael proved (证明) otherwise (并非如此); he [does great] in both,” said Li.
With technology and media developing quickly, teenagers can get information about other countries online easily. However, online searches show only a tiny part of the full story of cultural exchange. “If I hadn’t taken this trip, I wouldn’t have learned about the high school life of Chinese students and how welcoming and open-minded Chinese people are,” said 15-year-old Ian Chan.
For Sierra, the week-long trip even influenced his future aspirations (抱负). “I used to consider becoming a math teacher in the States. Now I’m thinking about teaching English in Beijing or Shanghai.”

As we know, making a new friend isn’t an easy thing. This may require that you step outside of your comfort zone, as well as risk being refused. There are four steps for building a friendship.
Step 1: Gather the Wood
If you are tired of being lonely, look for some potential friends. If the people around you are not the ones for building friendships, you must find a way to meet new people.
Step 2: Lay the Fire
Begin a conversation with a potential friend. This person around you may be surprised that you make the first move. For instance, you might open with something like “I’ve already run 5km before. How many have you completed ”
Step 3: Strike the Match
If the potential friend responds (回应) warmly and you both enjoy the small talk, you may want to take another step. For instance, you might say, “Wow, this has been fun! Are there any other cool art shows around town now ”
Step 4: Keep the Friendship Flame Burning
If you and the potential friend are willing to have a second meeting, say something like, “So many cool ideas were shared at this writer’s club, do you want to drink coffee and continue our conversation ” If the potential friend isn’t interested in a friendship and then falls back into the “acquaintance” or “stranger”, that is OK! Not everyone is going to be your new best friend.
Whether you and a new friend can build a relationship , the value of good friends never disappears. Be willing to take risks. Keep going on and remember that not everyone can be your friend, but good friendships are worth the risk.

Technology is everywhere and it influences our daily lives including the kinds of books. There are two main kinds of books—paper books and e-books for kids to choose from. The question becomes, is one better than another
The industry for selling e-books became a mainstream (主流) business in the late 1990s. E-books often have more colorful photos and sounds, and they may appear a lot more interesting than paper books. Research proves that e-books are good for kids. Kids learn more information when they are reading e-books because technology is fun and more enjoyable. Studies have shown that some kids may interact better when reading e-books. Some kids may have difficulties reading certain words. An e-book with lots of images and colors puts their imaginative spirit to the test. Good e-books help kids develop their reading skills faster. Highlighted text draws more attention, and the more time readers spend looking at words and hearing them out loud, the better chances (机会) they have to remember them. What’s more, e-books are lightweight and they can easily be read over and over again.
However, e-books come with several problems, too. Many parents and even experts believe that e-books are not good for the general health of kids. Kids need to read their e-books on devices (设备) such as their mobile phones, computers or e-readers. Since kids already spend too much time using their computers or mobile phones, parents worry that reading e-books makes their kids spend too much time in front of screens. Kids are more drawn by the technology and they care less about the stories. If kids are getting all their answers from e-books, their interaction with other people is greatly decreased (减少). Discussing word meanings and characters encourages interaction and learning with others.
69.What does technology influence
70.When did the industry for selling e-books become a mainstream business
71.What devices do kids need to read their e-books
72.What do you think of e-books Why (Please give two reasons)

As soon as we receive it, my company will also give your order priority. After all, you are a valuable customer for us. We’ll try to get all the bed clothes and curtains done as soon as possible.
