Two important events in American history.
☆ 马丁·路德·金(1929年1月15日—1968年4月4日), 著名的美国民权运动领袖。1948年大学毕业,1948年到1951年间,在美国东海岸的费城继续深造。1963年, 马丁·路德·金觐见了约翰逊总统, 要求通过新的民权法, 给黑人以平等的权利。
☆ 1963年8月28 日, 在林肯纪念堂前, 发表了《我有一个梦想》的演说。1964年获得诺贝尔和平奖。1968年4月, 马丁·路德·金前往孟菲斯市, 领导工人罢工后, 被人刺杀, 年仅39岁。1986年起, 美国政府将每年1月的第三个星期一, 定为马丁·路德·金全国纪念日。
世界贸易中心(World Trade Center,美国纽约)简称“世贸中心”,位于美国纽约曼哈顿岛西南端,曾是纽约市最高、楼层最多的摩天大楼,为纽约市民乃至美国国民所自豪的地标建筑。 大楼于1966年开建,主体于1973年建成使用。2001年9月11日,恐怖分子劫持两架民航客机先后从不同方向撞向世贸中心的双子塔楼,两栋塔楼随后相继倒塌。
