“All seven people have been rescued from a stricken cable car high above a remote Pakistan valley,” a spokesman for the state run emergency services said.
Pakistani authorities said army commandos(突击队), with the help of civilians, made the final rescues after an operation lasting hours. Floodlights were installed and a ground based operation reached the remaining two people late on Tuesday more than 12 hours after their cable car was damaged, leaving it hanging unsteadily at an angle.
A helicopter had earlier plucked two children to safety before darkness. High winds meant the air rescue had to be called off. Rescuers used the cable, keeping the cable car from plunging(突然下落) into the valley as a zip line, to rescue three more children. Relatives of those trapped prayed while watching the operation and anxious crowds gathered on both sides of the valley, which is in a mountainous area of Battagram, about 125 miles north of Islamabad.
Several military helicopters had flown sorties earlier in the day and an airman was lowered by a set of bands to deliver food, water and mandos could be seen on local TV trying to lower themselves on ropes from the helicopters to the cable car. An expert confirmed that the rescue was delicate because the wind created by the helicopters' blades could further weaken cables holding the car up in the sky.
The children trapped were teenage boys studying at the government high school. The school is located in a mountainous area and there are no safe crossings, so it's common to use the chairlift. People who live in the northern mountainous regions of Pakistan often use chairlifts for transport from one village to another. In 2017, 10 people were killed when a chairlift cable broke, sending passengers plunging into a valley in a mountain hamlet near the capital, Islamabad.
( ) 4. What is the main idea of Paragraphs 1 and 2
A. The result of the rescue.
B. The underlying accident in the rescue.

( ) 6. Why did the air rescue has to be called off
A. Because the air rescue staff were incompetent.
B. Because the cable was left hanging at a dangerous angle.
C. Because the weather condition was tough with heavy rain.
D. Because the wind created by the helicopters' blades is strong.
( ) 7. In which column of the website can we read this passage
A. Life Philosophy. B. Social News.
C. Business Insight. D. Book Reviews.
Are you chillaxed enough Recently, having a sense of ease seems to have become one of the most important qualities that a person should have to be seen as successful and attractive.
The discussion arose from a previous incident. A family's luggage(行李) was rejected for shipment, but they continued their journey like nothing bad had happened. A girl witnessed their calm attitude in difficult circumstances and shared the story online. She described their attitude as being “chillaxed”, meaning staying calm in the face of barriers. With the word gaining more attention, an increasing number of people have shared their chillaxed lives online.
In psychology, maintaining a sense of ease is similar to “psychological resilience”, which refers to the ability to effectively adjust and adapt to tough situations, particularly by being mentally, emotionally and behaviorally flexible to pressure. It stresses a drive for success, steadily advancing toward a goal, and being prepared to accept any outcome without complaining.
In both work and study, many people get anxious or even collapse when faced with short term bottlenecks. Therefore, they hurriedly seek immediate changes, which in most cases prevents them from achieving the desired result. Rather than going after immediate outcomes, it's more significant to maintain steady, gradual progress and adopt a long term mindset.
Interestingly, as the Internet becomes filled with hashtags(标签) like “only those who are chillaxed are attractive”, many people are beginning to feel anxious because they don't fit that description. Still, it's important to note that while a state of ease may be favorable, there's nothing wrong with not being chillaxed. Indeed, many people achieve their goals by pushing themselves to their limits, though feeling frustrated at pressure from time to time. But as long as you are fighting for your ideal life, you're definitely someone who's appealing and respectable no matter whether you're chillaxed or not.
( ) 8. Why is the family's experience mentioned in the passage
A. To introduce the origin of the word “chillaxed”.
B. To show the family's ability to stay chillaxed.
C. To highlight the importance of being chillaxed.
D. To argue against the rejection of luggage shipment.
( ) 9. What's highlighted in psychological resilience
A. Quick forgetting of challenges. B. Dependence on external factors.
C. Flexibility and steady progress. D. Seeking quick fixes to problems.
( )10. What's the author's attitude toward being chillaxed
A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Dismissive. D. Unclear.
( )11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. A Chillaxed Attitude: Shortcut Toward Success
B. Remaining Chillaxed Helps to Settle Conflicts
C. Why Being Chillaxed Does Not Guarantee Happiness
D. Being Chillaxed: The Art of Psychological Strength
According to new research, babies recognize pretence and around half of children can pretend themselves by 12 months. The study, led by the University of Bristol, shows for the first time how children's awareness and grasp of pretence in its various forms develops from birth to three years old.
The lead author said, “Our findings highlight how pretending is a complex, evolving(进化的) process which begins very early on in life, helping their cognitive(认知的) and social skills to advance. Pretence is a key part of children's learning, creativity, making friends, and understanding of other people. This study maps its many different stages and types.”
The findings are based on results from a survey of 900 parents of children aged from birth up to three year old from the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada. The earliest reported age when children understand pretence was four months and by the age of 13 months, around half were reported to discern pretence by others. Around half of 12 month olds were reported to be pretending regularly themselves.
Researchers identified 18 different types of pretence which emerge and progress in the early years. One year olds' pretence was shown to initially involve their bodies, for example, pretending to sleep. They may also gesture objects and actions, such as brushing their teeth with a finger or pretending with objects for their intended purpose like drinking out of an empty cup.
The researchers hope their research will help parents and preschool teachers understand and identify which types of pretence are appropriate to try with children at certain ages, supporting their learning, creativity, and friendships.
The lead author said, “With further research, the findings have the potential to be used as a diagnostic tool for developmental differences in early years. This could ultimately help parents, preschool educators, and medical professionals better understand how to play with children at different stages of development.”
( )12. How can pretence impact babies
A. By enhancing their physical strength.
B. By boosting their cognitive development.
C. By making them more resistant to illness.
D. By teaching them to read and write earlier.
( )13. What does the underlined word “discern” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Recognize. B. Force. C. Interrupt. D. Criticize.
( )14. What might the findings bring
A. New learning skills in science.
B. Changes in secondary education.
C. Better play methods for primary students.
D. Ways to assess developmental differences.
( )15. What can be the best title for the text
A. How Babies Learn to Pretend
B. The Process of Pretence in Children
C. New Insights into Early Childhood Pretence
D. The Role of Pretence in Human Development

We've all been there before—you're in conversation, things are getting along nicely. __16__ At that moment, your mind goes completely blank, you don't know what to say, and you can sense the other person's eyes wandering as they look for someone else to talk to. That scenario(场面) is terrible, so here are three tips to make sure that you never run out of things to say in conversation again.
Firstly, when you find yourself in that situation where your mind has gone blank, play “Reminds Me of”. That just means that you look to the environment around you and say, “You know, that reminds me of …” and then fill in the blank. __17__ And it can also work as a follow up when someone finishes telling a story, which is how many groups of friends interact all the time.
Second, when you ask questions, keep them open ended as often as possible. __18__ So rather than saying, “Oh, you're from Toronto. Do you like it there?”, you might say, “How do you like Toronto I'm curious to hear more about it.” You should get the other person talking about the things that they like, which is going to open up more conversational topics.
__19__ This is the third tip. If you're in a new group and conversation dies after initial pleasantries, a great question is, “How do you guys all know one another?” There's almost always some kind of story that conversation can build from. If you're only speaking to one person, you can say instead, “So what's your story?” The great thing about this question is that it is so open ended that the other person will probably guide you towards new topics, usually responding with something like, “You mean what do I do for work or what do I like to do for fun?” __20__
A. Ask them about their exciting plans for the future.
B. It is great for opening new conversational topics.
C. Then out of nowhere, the awkward silence occurs.
D. You'd better avoid questions inviting a one word response.
E. That's because people don't like to talk to others different from themselves.
F. For the worst scenario when conversation stops suddenly, use saving questions.
G. His or her tone and enthusiasm will tell you the best angle of conversation to continue with.
16. _______ 17. _______ 18. _______ 19. _______ 20. _______

As a kid, he was abstracted and uninterested in science and all other __22__ as well. He couldn't __23__ what the teachers were saying, spending most of his time in school daydreaming.
It had been a challenging but rewarding term, filled with hard work and a thirst for knowledge. As I handed in my final assignment and saw it was graded A, a sense of pride and satisfaction washed over me. Little did I know that my accomplishments had not gone unnoticed by my family, who had been closely observing my progress.
On the first day of summer vacation, my mother told me excitedly that we would pay a visit to Macau the next day to cheer for my academic progress. When I got the good news, I felt on top of the world and my spirits soared. As I lay in bed that night, a mix of anticipation and delight welled up in my heart, and I slid into a dream filled sleep, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the coming adventure.
After we arrived in Macau, my parents said that we would first visit the Macau Tower. Macau Tower, built in the late 19th century, is a historic landmark that showcases the rich architectural heritage of the city. It is also considered one of the top tourist attractions in the region. Upon hearing the inspiring news, I bounced up and down with joy. But then I felt a bit uneasy because of my fear of heights.
Inside the lift, my palms grew sweaty as anxiety consumed me. I paced back and forth in the tower lift, unsure of whether I would have the courage. After the lift reached the specific floor, I gasped in horror. The floor here was made of glass, so one could appreciate the height of the tower and take a real adventure. Seeing my family both take out their phones to shoot the grand views, I felt under pressure. Then my mother smiled at me and said delightedly, “Just take it easy and you can do it.”

根据第三段中“A helicopter had earlier plucked two children to safety before darkness.”
根据第三段中“High winds meant the air rescue had to be called off.”以及第四段中“the wind created by the helicopters' blades could further weaken cables holding the car up in the sky”可知,直升机螺旋桨产生的风可能会进一步削弱支撑缆车悬空的缆绳的支撑力,因此空中救援不得不取消是因为直升机叶片产生的风很强。

根据第二段中“The lead author said … helping their cognitive and social skills to advance.’”

直接点明方法,与下文“How do you guys all know one another?”

As I weighed the options in my mind, my mother's words echoed in my ears, reminding me of the courage and confidence I used to have. With a deep breath, I made up my mind that I would seize this opportunity and embrace the adventure that awaited me in Macau.
I_was_totally_struck_by_the_view_unfolding_before_my_eyes. My eyes were immediately drawn to the magnificent structure that stood tall in the city center—Macau Tower. Its charm was without equal, its soaring height dominating the skyline. I couldn't help feeling a mixture of awe and admiration. I reminded myself of the encouragement from my loved ones. As we left the tower, I expressed my gratitude to my mother for her consistent support. She taught me an important lesson that day—with a little encouragement, we can achieve extraordinary things.
