三、阅读理解
Yellow, orange, red and green—tree leaves make autumn a colourful time! Who paints all these colours It is the leaves themselves. Inside a leaf, there are millions of little colour “bags”, they are green, yellow and orange. The green ones are called chlorophyll (叶绿素).The yellow ones are called xanthophylls (叶黄素). The orange ones are called carotene (胡萝卜素).
In summer, the green chlorophyll is very, very busy. It makes food for the trees. It catches sunlight to change
water and carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) into sugar. This sugar is the food for the tree. It is so busy that it covers up all of the other colours in the leaf.
When the weather grows colder in autumn, there is less light and water for trees. The trees will have a rest to get ready for winter. They’ve made enough food in summer! The leaves no longer need water to make food. Without the water, the green chlorophyll starts to go away. The other colours in the leaf—the yellow xanthophylls and orange carotene come out. So the leaves don’t really “turn” a certain colour. They just lose their green!
But how about the red, purple and green leaves
The leaves look red or purple because they have some sugar in them. They “steal” some food from the tree! The green leaves are from the evergreen trees. The evergreen trees stay green all year long. Their leaves don’t lose water in winter.
( ) 1. The leaves of trees in autumn turn yellow because there is .
A. no water B. no sugar
C. not enough sunshine D. no chlorophyll working
( ) 2. The little colour “bags” refer to .
A. carbon dioxide B. sunlight and water
C. green, yellow and orange D. chlorophyll, carotene and xanthophylls
( ) 3. The second paragraph mainly shows us .
A. what chlorophyll is B. sugar is food for trees
C. how chlorophyll makes water D. how photosynthesis (光合作用) works
( ) 4. Which of the following is NOT true
A. In winter little colour “bags” are still in the leaves.
B. During winter trees rest and live on the food they have stored.
C. In summer trees begin to shut down their food-making factories.
D. When autumn and winter come, the days get shorter and shorter.
( ) 5. We can infer from the passage that .
A. sunlight makes tree leaves green
B. carbon dioxide makes tree leaves green
C. water in the tree leaves makes them green
D. sugar in the tree leaves makes them yellow

The choice of colours for a room's walls and ceiling (天花板) can help you decide whether your design is successful or not. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your home's colours.
Bright colours, like blue , yellow and orange, provide an expansive (膨胀的) feeling. These are friendly and happy colours. They can encourage communication and are especially welcome in the dining room and kitchen.
Dark colours, such as red and purple, have a constricting ( 收缩的) and gloomy effect. But when they are used in the right place, they can help create a safe and comfortable feeling.
Warm colours, orange and yellow, for example, raise the temperature of a room. For that reason, they’re best used in rooms that face north. Warm colours are also active colours, so you’d better not use them in rooms for relaxation, like the bedroom.
Cold colours, such as icy blue and green, have a calming effect. They are especially suitable for bedrooms.
They help you fall asleep easily in the evening and become energetic when you get up the next morning.
Navy blue can make people unwilling to communicate, so do not use it in the living room or the dining room.
Red raises the energy level of a room, but it may also make people get angry more easily. Therefore, it's not suitable for a child’s room.
