In fact, some clothing companies have already made clothes like these.
The clothing company of Alia Juma’s showed its newest collection at a workshop in Shanghai. Eighteen kinds of clothes were made from recycled plastic bottles. “We realized that billions of water bottles are thrown in the ocean every year and they would take hundreds of years to break down. We should use them to do something meaningful to help the environment,” said Alia Juma, the company’s designer. “5 bottles can make a shirt, 10 a dress and 20 a short coat.”
Many other clothing companies are finding similar ways to save our planet these days. The process is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. And then they are melted and shaped into small balls. Next, the balls are melted again to form threads ( 线). People can then use the threads to make different kinds of clothes.
According to Juma, it takes 67,000 bottles to create a ton of thread. This cuts down carbon emissions ( 碳排放) by 4.2 tons and water use by 6.2 tons compared with the normal way of making threads.
Some people may doubt wearing clothes made out of plastic bottles. But in fact, clothes made from plastic can be even better than those made from common materials. It seems that this creative way may lead to a g... future for fashion.

Many people around the world are working to protect animals in danger. Here are three of their stories. Read on to learn how they’re helping!
Fernanda Abra is protecting golden-handed tamarins in Brazil.
“These monkeys live in forests. Over the years, many roads have divided their habitat (栖息地) into smaller parts. The animals must risk their lives crossing the roads to find each other. To help them, we have built bridges in the canopy ( 树冠层). This allows the animals to move around safely.”
Aristide Kamla is saving African manatees in Cameroon (喀麦隆).
“Lake Ossa is home to some manatees. In the past, the lake was covered with a type of weed (水草). The weed grew fast and was hard to kill. As a result, the manatees could hardly surface for air. With the locals’ help, we first cleared some of the weed by hand. Then, we introduced weevils ( 象鼻虫) to eat the weed. Today, less than ten percent of the lake is covered with the weed.”
Kuenzang Dorji is saving Gee’s golden langurs in Bhutan ( 不丹).
“Habitat loss and climate change are making it hard for langurs to find food. This has forced them to eat farmers’ crops. Many langurs have been hurt by cars or power lines, or killed by angry farmers. As a solution, we have placed model tigers near crops, roads and power stations. 第二节 阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Earth Day is often celebrated on April 22nd around the world to think about how we can help our earth. Here are three real-life stories of people who are doing their part to make the earth a better place.
Zhang Meng, a seventh-grade student, has a talent for art. Seeing many people throw away old newspapers and plastics, she decided to use her skills to recycle these materials. Zhang picked up these old things from her neighbors and brought them back to life by turning them into amazing art pieces. Her actions show that we can make something valuable out of what others consider waste.
Li Qi runs a local restaurant. He realized that the food he served could have an influence on the environment. So, he made a change: his restaurant now serves food only from nearby farms. By doing this, Li supports local farmers and reduces the pollution caused by transporting food from far away. His eco-friendly choices make people think about how their eating habits can help or hurt nature.
Miss Wang, a retired ( 退休的) teacher, loves nature. She started a community garden where she plants trees and flowers. This garden improves the air quality and gives animals a place to live. Wang also invites children to her garden. She can teach them about the importance of nature. Of course, she also teaches them about how to take care of the garden.
These everyday heroes show us that even small actions can make a big difference in protecting our planet. On Earth Day, let’s learn from them and start doing our part.
