Mark cut in, saying, “Dad, we’ll be fine. We hiked in Big Bend when we lived here, remember We’ll only be gone for a few hours, and I have my cell phone.” He sounded confident.
But David Saldivar was worried. Five years ago, he hiked in Big Bend National Park with his sons. Today he had to call in to a meeting at work, so they were on their own.
David watched his sons head out towards the canyon trail (小路), which offered beautiful views of the mountains, but was short of shade (阴凉处).
The brothers made good progress in their first few hours of hiking. The air was cool and Mark managed to take some amazing wildlife pictures.
In early afternoon, the brothers were down to a bottle of water each, but Mark was sure it was enough for the time left. They continued along the trail. The sun beat down harder with every step they took.
The boys stopped to drink water. Jason quickly emptied his bottle but he was still thirsty. Mark handed Jason his bottle. At that point, Mark realized he did not know as much about hiking in the canyon as he had thought he did. He decided it was time to call their dad.
The boys sat under a rock ledge (突出的岩石) and waited for help. Within an hour, their dad appeared with more water.
“Are you OK ” their dad asked.
“We’re just fine,” Mark replied, smiling weakly.
As they slowly made their way back, Mark said, “You were right, Dad. We didn’t pay as much attention to what you said as we should have! I’ll be sure to take all your hiking advice in the future.”

Listen for a moment to the sounds around you. What do you hear Even in areas full of houses far away from busy streets, there can still be a lot of noise. Sometime this noise can wake you from sleep at night. Other times it may make it difficult to talk to a friend. This kind of noise is often called noise pollution (污染) which is bad for people and animals.
Most noise pollution is caused by transportation. Cars, trucks, trains, and airplanes can all be very loud. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a quiet place.
George Prochnik says that noise can greatly affect (影响) our bodies. It can damage (损害) more than our ears. When a person experiences high levels of noise, his heart beats faster. His blood pressure (血压) gets higher. When there is too much noise at night, a person cannot get deep sleep. Studies show that lack (缺少) of sleep can cause many health problems. People may also have a difficult time concentrating on work during the day.
But noise does not just affect humans. Birds sing songs to communicate. But if it is too noisy, the birds cannot communicate. Cows produce less milk when it is noisy.
People should treat noise like any other dangerous thing. We should do something to reduce (减少) noise in our life. Keep your mobile telephone at a low volume. If you want to share your music with people who stay near you, do not do it by playing music louder. Play music at a level that only you can hear. If you live a life that creates a lot of noise, plant tall plants around your home. These plants will block some of the noise. Instead of driving a car or riding a motorbike, ride a bike instead. This will reduce noise on the roads.
34.What can we learn from the passage
A.People can hear the noise only at night. B.Noise can cause health problems. C.Noise pollution is mainly caused by factories. D.Noise can help birds communicate better.

Screen Time and Children
As children grow and develop, they can be easily influenced (影响) by what they see and hear, especially from digital media Digital media can be TV, the Internet, and smart phones. Some programs can be educational. But many children watch too much digital media. Some programs can show children bad things that parents don’t want them to learn, or that can cause fear. Digital media may also show children poor eating habits through commercials (广告).
Too much time on TV can take away from reading, studying, learning activities, play, and exercise. Digital media can also show drinking wine and smoking. Children may see these things before they are ready to understand them and before they can make good decisions (决定).
Parents can do something to help decrease the effects (影响) of digital media. They can pay attention to the type of program and limit (限制) children’s screen (屏幕) time. Here are some ways for setting good viewing (观看) habits:
Choose programs for children to watch. Always plan what children will be watching. Don’t turn on TV randomly (随意地). Give choices between 2 programs parents think are good for their children. Limit screen time to 1 or 2 hours a day for children older than 2 years. Scientists advise that children younger than 2 years should not watch digital media.
Turn to educational shows such as the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, or History Channel. Watch programs with children. Talk about what happened on the show. Talk about what was good or bad about the program. Talk about the difference between reality and make-believe.
Parents should be a good example to their children by not watching too much TV or digital media. Limit their own screen time. When the daytime programs are not suitable for children, try other activities, especially reading. Read to children instead of watching TV.
Plan other fun activities for children, so they have choices instead of screen time. Try a trip to the park, a festival, a playground, or a visit to a relative’s or friend’s house instead. Don’t watch TV or use phones during meals.
40.The writer thinks _________.

六、任务型阅读(满分8分)
Summer camps started in the US. They are programs for students during the summer months in some countries. Students taking part in summer camps are known as campers. The traditional summer camp usually means sports, game-playing and campfires. Now modern summer camps can offer campers a great many activities. Among them, the international summer camp is quite popular, especially with Chinese campers.
First of all, the international summer camp can bring campers unusual life experience. As we all know, the experience in high school plays a very important role in life. The international summer camp is a great way to get the right values for life. Campers will experience the cultural difference— something they can’t get at home from their families. During the international summer camp, students will become more independent and see new things. They can also learn more through talking with students from all over the world.
Making friends is another point. The international summer camp mixes Chinese students with students from other countries in the world. No matter whether they live with a local family or live with other students in dormitories (宿舍), they will all share experiences and cultures with persons from different countries and cultural backgrounds, learn cross-culture communication skills by listening to others and expressing themselves, and improve friendship over several weeks. They often stay in touch with each other by email after the program finishes.
The most exciting thing in the international summer camp is that Chinese campers can get excellent chances to speak and use English in a real English world. Language is not only knowledge; it is a skill which needs to be improved by using it.
44.Where did summer camps start
45.What can children get from the summer camp but not from their families
