Learning goals 语言能力:To learn the words and expressions to describe people. 能力目标:To listen and talk about how people have changed using used to. 情感目标:To encourage students to change to be better and better.
Key structure Did Mario use to be short Yes, he did. What’s he like now He’s tall now.
Difficulties How to describe what people look like by using “used to”.

Procedure
Lead-in Enjoy a video about people’s changes. Could you please tell me what it is about
Step 1 Show the learning goals and let Ss read them together. With all these learning goals, lets start our learning journey.
Step 2 Show Ss some vivid pictures and then ask Ss to guess who he is. I will show you some pictures, please guess who he is.
Step 3 Now, let’s brainstorm more words about appearance and personality, humorous, silent, helpful, shy......let Ss read them together.
Step 4 Show Ss some pictures of famous people,and then ask Ss to describe what these people used to be like and what he looks like now.
Step 5 Activity 1b. Listening practice. Before we listen, let’s look at the picture carefully and try to imagine what you’ll hear today. Listen and complete the sentences of what Bob’s friends used to look like with what you hear. Have you got all the answers OK, let’s check them.Have you got them right All of you did a good job, I’m so proud of you!
Step6 We are going to describe people’s changes based on the information we’ve just heard. Please look at the picture carefully. How has Mario changed from past to now What about Tina’s change
Step 7 Pair work. As we all know, practice makes perfect. So let’s make up some conversations to practise what we’ve learned. Please make up conversations with the sentence structures in 1c. For 4 minutes, I’ll call you to stop and ask some groups to act them out. Did Mario used to be short Yes,he did. He used to be really short......
Step 9 Let’s move on. Please do some exercises.Who wants to do them on the blackboard Hands up,please.Please come to the blackboard.
Step 10 Now it’s time for you to make up some sentences about your changes. You’ll have three minutes to prepare for it. Now time is yours. Who wants to go first Hands up, please!
Step 11 Let’s make a summary about we’ve learned today. 1.We learned and reviewed the words and expressions about appearance and personality, 2. The usage of used to. And your homework is to write a short passage about your changes.

第一课时教学反思
导入环节,我利用视频导入本节话题及本节课新学的描述个人变化,并且把这些used to be/do板书在黑板上,给学生留下第一次印象。
Guessing game设计意图与反思,这一环节利用名人的照片,让学生猜测Who is he 来复习以前学过的关于性格和外貌的形容词,同时由加强新单词的记忆,后来感觉这一环节应加入学生自己的照片,让学生描述自己的同学,更贴近生活,更能吸引学生的注意力。
名人变化对比环节,呈现姚明和刘德华的照片,对比他们过去和现在的变化,很自然地再次导入这节课的目标语used to do, 为听力做准备。
在听听力之前,让学生观察课本中的图片,并且描述图片中人物的外貌,充分利用好图片然后对学生进行听力策略指导,降低听力难度,增强学生听力信心。但如果对图片中人物现在的情况采用师生问答比教师直接描述他们的外貌效果应该更好,学生会有更多的思考空间。
完成听力后,让学生观察图片,进一步描述图片中人物的变化,让学生更加熟悉目标语言,为编对话做准备。鼓励学生描述自己的变化进一步夯实基础。
最后以视频结束本节课,鼓励学生好好学习,改变自己。
这节课始终以外貌、性格和爱好变化为主线,从名人的变化,再谈自己的变化,前后呼应,环环相扣。PPT中名人的照片(猜测游戏)、名人多年变化的照片、抖音视频等,将实际生活融入英语课堂,然后又要将英语回归实际生活,这样既能激发学生学习英语兴趣,又让所学得到很好的运用,让语言训练有血有肉。
英语教学提倡“学中用,用中学,学用结合,学以致用”。我认为这节课还应该鼓励每一个学生展示自己。
