Our teacher asked us to do a chick-hatching (雏鸡孵化) subject. He told us that hatching chicks wasn’t easy, and that it had something to do with many things, like the temperature.
I got some eggs. To make them not break, I picked them up carefully and then put them in a box. I thought the temperature outside was comfortable enough for the chicks to come out of the eggs. So I took some of the eggs out and used a cloth to keep them warm. But the temperature at night was not high enough. The chicks all didn’t come out of the eggshells. I cried when I saw this. Our teacher said, “We can’t tell how fragile (脆弱的) life is. The chance to live is always important. Don’t give up just because you didn’t do something successfully.”
So I did it again. A few days later, two chicks came out to see the world. Seeing the little chicks, I just couldn’t tell how excited I was.
I saw them getting older day by day. The feeling was just like parents seeing their children growing up. I was glad that I joined this activity. I learned a lot from it. We should value life.

Museums are active centres of learning. In a science museum, people can learn about nature and technology as well as physics and chemistry. Visiting museums is a good choice to spend a holiday for people of all ages. But there’re some rules when visiting museums. Take an art museum, for example.
Keep quiet. You can talk, but keep the voice down and be polite to those around you. You should turn off your phone or put it on silent. Sounds from your phone may disturb(打扰) others. If a call must be made, you should go outside to make it.
Ask before taking photos. Some museums welcome visitors to photograph or videotape works of art. However, please be careful with the sign “no photography” which means taking photos is not allowed for that work or exhibition. If you take photos without permission, you will be in trouble. Maybe you will be punished.
Do not touch works of art! Your touch may not seem like much, but even the slightest(最轻的)touch can damage the surface of a painting dinosaur stone, and even rust metal. Keep a safe distance between you and each work of art. This helps to avoid accidental touching.
Never bring food or drink into the museum. It’s no good eating or drinking there. The art in the museum will provide plenty of food for thought as well as a dinner for the eyes!

Welcome to the Museum of Failure! Maybe you haven’t heard about some of the things here. That’s because they are all a “failure”. On 7th June, 2017, the Museum of Failure opened in a town in Sweden. There are more than 60 failed products from all over the world on show at the museum.
Dr Samuel West set up the museum. It provides visitors with a learning experience about the important role of failure. Without laughing at failures, West hopes his museum can help us learn from our mistakes. “When we try out a new skill or learn something, it’s okay to fail, ” he says.
The museum also encourages companies to become better at learning from failure. One of the failed products on show is Apple Newton. It offers an example of how companies can turn failure into success. Created in 1993, Apple Newton failed to satisfy customers. Steve Jobs stopped producing it in 1998. Twelve years later, the company produced the successful iPad.
“By stopping it, we could work on new products, ” Jobs later said. “And finally we got it right when we moved on to iPhones and the iPad. ”
Getting all the products wasn’t easy for West. Many of them were bought on eBay and all of them were different from one another.

Last summer I went to one of the world’s most famous historical places, the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the home of the emperors (皇帝) of the last two dynasties in China, the Ming and Qing Dynasties (王朝).
The Forbidden City was built in 1420. It stands in the center of the capital of China, Beijing. It is surrounded by high walls with dragons on each wall. There are about 9,000 rooms. It was where the emperors dealt with the official business with the ministers (大臣).
In Mandarin, the Forbidden City is called the Purple Forbidden City. The color of the palace itself is not purple however. The color purple (“Zi”) stands for the power of the great emperors of China. It was so sacred (神圣的) that the common people could not even dream of ever going in. Even some of the officials could not go in there if uninvited.
The emperor also had some of the largest festival celebrations at the Forbidden City. During Chinese New Year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. The banquet had a hundred and eight dishes. It was such an expensive banquet that it could feed a commoner’s family for three generations (代).
Right now the Forbidden City is known as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. Everyone can go into it. It is a museum with priceless Chinese antiques (古董) and treasures.

Disney parks are popular with people around the world.
62 Here are some: meeting your favorite characters, trying unique foods, and seeing live shows. But for most of the Disney visitors, there’s nothing like the thrill (激动) of the rides. 63 It’s worth it for many people, but still a little discouraging.
That couldn’t be further from the truth for Disney World’s longest ride: the Carousel of Progress. It is in the Tomorrowland area of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, and it lasts about 20 minutes and 45 seconds. 64 The Carousel of Progress isn’t a traditional “ride”. Instead, it’s more of a show. Visitors sit in a rotating (旋转) theater and travel through the 20th century, taking a look into American lifestyle of each period. Disney’s site lists it a “slow ride,” and it may not be as thrilling as Space Mountain. 65 Since the wait time to ride the Carousel is usually pretty short compared to other rides, it’s a great attraction when you need a little break from the excitement. Besides, Touring Plans says it’s a must-see for visitors.
Are you interested in learning about Disney Parks 66
A.Come and experience the attraction yourself.
B.But it’s classic part of the history of Disney World.
C.That’s longer than some of the park’s shows!
D.The disadvantage is that some rides have hours wait times and only-minutes ride times.

Mona Island is an amazing place to take a vacation. Some of the animals living there can’t be found anywhere else in the world. There are beautiful beaches and caves to explore. The sea around the island has colorful fishes.
Why Is Mona Island Unusual
Mona Island is very small. The government of Puerto Rico takes care of the island and has made it a natural reserve. That means the island’s animals and plants are protected from being harmed by people. Mona Island is different from most places because people are not allowed to live there. Only a few park rangers are able to stay.
The park rangers’ job is to keep Mona Island safe and beautiful. They insist that rules be followed. One rule is that only 100 people at a time can visit the island. That way, the park rangers can make sure the land and animals remain safe.
What Is There to See on Mona Island
One thing that most people enjoy is getting to see the Mona Island iguana. This type of reptile (爬行动物) lives only on Mona Island. Almost 2,000 of these iguanas live on Mona Island.
People also come to the island to get a close-up view of many kinds of fish and other sea life. They can swim far below the surface. They use special equipment to be able to breathe underwater. The water is almost transparent. Through the clear water, divers can see the bright colors of the fish.
Visitors can also explore caves. Some of the caves even have paintings and drawings on the walls. This artwork was made by the Arawak and Taíno Indians who lived on the island hundreds of years ago.
After a full day of fun activities, visitors can settle in, listen to the night sounds, and view the stars in the huge sky. Because the island is far away from other places, it is surrounded by darkness, and the stars are easier to see. Visitors say that watching the stars is amazing. It’s the perfect end to a perfect day.

The Library Lesson
Rules sometimes feel restrictive, but last month I learned their true value through an experience in our school library.
Our librarian, Ms. Reed, announced new rules to keep the study area peaceful. The key requirement was to avoid loud discussions after school. Many students ignored this, including my friend Tom and me. One Wednesday, we chatted loudly while working on a history project. Ms. Reed reminded us twice to lower our voices, but we continued.
The consequence came quickly: We got banned from the library for a week. To complete our research, we had to use the noisy cafeteria instead. Distractions everywhere made concentrating impossible. Our work quality suffered terribly.
That week taught me why rules matter. They aren’t meant to control us but to protect everyone’s rights. Now I understand to follow reasonable rules actually saves time and reduces stress. Tom and I even volunteered to help monitor the library area—our way of making amends.
