It’s often believed that only grown-ups can make a difference. Is it true Tea Vogue interviewed some teenagers across the world. Get ready to be inspired (启发).
16-year-old Michael began using social media to cheer up teenagers of his age to follow their dreams on his baseball blogs. Michael talked about sportspeople and how they would face their challenges.
Lesein, 14 years old, first learned about climate change when he was twelve years old. His home country, Kenya loses about 29,650 acres of forest each year. With a deep love of soccer, Lesein started Trees for Goals, planting a tree for every goal he scored in a match. Later the school’s soccer and basketball teams all followed him. In 2019, almost 1,000 trees in forests outside of Nairobi were planted. Now the government provides trees for them to plant.
Alexis Lewis, a 15-year-old inventor designed a simple wheelchair with bamboo to help poor people who need to transport children many miles to hospitals. Another invention of his is a special mask which can be thrown through a window of a smoke-filled building to people inside. Alexis said, “People are dying in a fire accident because they can’t be saved in time. Another reason why I want to invent something is that I love physics and I want to improve technologies with it.” Alexis also told our reporter that he wanted children to know that inventors can be everybody who’s ever tried to solve a problem.

Four years ago when I was a boy of 11, I got into the biggest trouble as a kid. It was a Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10-month-old sister alone. Anyway, my sister was still sleeping in her room. In fact, I had the house to myself. I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Nothing was on TV, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelf. I had an idea! What would happen if I set fire to some kitchen paper Well, of course it went on fire, but it wasn’t the little flame (火焰) I thought, and I couldn’t blow (吹) it out. I threw it on the floor, and then luckily got my dad’s boots (靴子) and put out the fire.
I thought I was safe until there was a big hole on the floor of my room. A few hours later, my mum came home. She smelt the smoke as soon as she came into my room. She dropped the shopping bag, luckily for me, over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running around the house checking for a fire, she, of course, picked up the bag and saw the hole. Next, I was grounded (关禁闭) and in trouble for months. Now the hole was still there, reminding (使想起) me of what I did.

To stop more teenagers from becoming addicted (沉迷) to the Internet, the Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) sent a letter on April 20, 2018 to all parents in China. It calls on them to pay more attention to their children’s online activities. Nowadays more and more teenagers become addicted to the Internet. A 17-year-old boy from Guangdong Province nearly died after playing online games for 40 hours. It shows how bad things can get when one becomes addicted to the Internet.
The MOE also sent a notice to primary and middle schools, asking them to manage students’ Internet use. From now on, schools will pay more attention to their students’ Internet use, as well as their use of mobile phones. Schools have been told to teach students how to avoid violent (暴力的) online content (内容). As long as students show signs of being addicted to the Internet, they can get help from their teachers to give up their addiction.
To make better use of the Internet, experts suggest that students should limit (限制) their screen time to less than 1.5 hours a day. They can develop healthy hobbies, like reading or playing sports in their free time.

As time goes by, shopping online becomes a new way of shopping which is getting more and more popular. Many people like to shop over the Internet these days.
Why do people enjoy shopping online First, they can shop at home at any time. Second, there are more choices for shopping on the Internet. People can find what they want and even buy something that they can’t get in the stores in their cities. Third, it saves time. People just click (点击) the mouse to get what they want. So they don’t have to go to the stores in person. Fourth, usually the things on the Internet are cheaper than those in the stores.
But online shopping is not always good. People can only see photos when shopping online. When the products arrive, people may find they are not the same as those in the photos online. Sometimes network payment (网络支付) is not safe. And receiving things is slow—they have to wait for a few days. What’s more, for those who enjoy walking around different stores, shopping online may make them bored.

Some young people are often unhappy when they are with their parents, because they think that their parents are too strict with them, and they are given too many rules but never given a free hand. Parents often find it difficult to win their children’s trust and they seem to forget how they felt when they were young. For example, young people like to do things without much thinking. It’s one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can deal with any difficult things. Elder people worry more easily. Most of them plan things ahead and don’t like their plans to be changed.

Many kids do housework, such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and washing the clothes. In exchange (作为交换), they get some money or other computer time. Paying kids for housework is one of the most popular topics. Some parents think kids should be paid for everyday housework, because they can know about the society rules earlier. Scientists do research about it. 60% of people don’t think kids should get money for doing housework. Susie Walton believes that it sends a message that they shouldn’t work unless they get something in return. “Doing housework is a team job,” Susie Walton said. “A home is a living space for family. It’s important for kids to know that everyone is a part of the family. They should take good care of the home.” 40% of people think it’s good to pay for kids for doing housework. They say that this teaches kids real world lessons about how people need to work to get money. There are also some apps that give kids points and gifts. “The goal of the apps is to set a good example about jobs for kids,” said Chris Bergman.

Teenagers today live in a very competitive (竞争的) world. They think it’s very important to do well in school if they want to get a good job in the future. Because of that, many teenagers worry about disappointing their parents, their relatives and themselves. To try to please everyone, they start completing too many tasks until it becomes harder and harder to balance (平衡) homework, parties and sports activities. The result is that teenagers have more stress.
But stress is treatable (可治愈的)! There are different ways for teenagers to deal with stress.
A good way to deal with stress is exercising! Research has suggested that taking physical exercise is a good way to deal with stress, because it increases certain chemicals (化学物质) in the brain which calm you down. Making sure you get enough sleep at night is also an important way of avoiding stress. And then you can stay healthy and feel full of energy the next day.
Another way to avoid stress is using your time wisely. It’s better to do a few tasks really well than lots of tasks badly. Know your limits (极限) and try not to do too many tasks.
Finally, if it gets out of your control, don’t be worried. Finding the time to sit down quietly and breathe deeply for ten to twenty minutes is a good way to solve the problem.

A few days ago, I was walking down the street when I met a group of students in uniforms. I was shocked to see that the girls’ skirts were very short and they were wearing a lot of make-up. The boys looked very untidy. Their shirts were dirty and some of them even had their shirt fronts open. I noticed that some of the students had their ears and noses pierced (穿孔), which should not be allowed at school.
And the other day, I was on the subway when I saw some boys wearing uniforms of the same local school. Instead of sitting quietly, these boys kept making noises and saying dirty words. All the other passengers were looking at them and wondering how it was possible for students like these boys. They were really showing a bad image (形象) of their school, which was shameful.
I am a mother of two teenagers of the same school. After seeing those boys and girls, I am worried if my children also behave like this. I don’t know about it. In addition, instead of going to one shop after another, teenagers can choose all kinds of things online easily. It’s a good way to save time.
Of course, some rules should be followed. When we shop online, we should only buy what we need, such as school things or necessary clothes. We shouldn’t spend money on online games. Should Teenagers Go out with Friends on Weekends
Recently, the TV station held a discussion show about whether teenagers should go out with friends on weekends. Most parents think teenagers should stay at home instead of going out on weekends. They think teenagers should go over lessons at home, and going out with friends wastes a lot of time. But children have different opinions. They think they should go out on weekends, because it makes them relaxed.
In my opinion, teenagers should be allowed to go out with friends on weekends. They can play sports with friends during the weekends, which helps strengthen their bodies. Besides going out to make more friends can help them improve social skills. Of course, I think teenagers are supposed to talk with parents about it patiently and set them at ease.

Is the student who is only good at his lessons at school really an excellent student No, I don’t think so. In my opinion, being a good student is not only about getting high marks in the exams. I think he or she should also know how to live and get along with others. And we should go out to take part in more activities and make some friends. In that way, we can learn more and become a better person.
