Mingsha Mountain in Gansu Province is famous for its golden desert and ancient Silk Road history. Every year, millions of tourists visit it, especially in May when the weather is mild. Camel riding is one of the most popular activities here—there were about 2,400 camels available for riding in 2023.
However, the large number of tourists and camels caused traffic jams in the desert. Pedestrians and camels often got in each other’s way. To solve this problem, local people came up with a creative idea: camel traffic lights.
These traffic lights look like normal street lights but have a camel shape. When the green camel light is on, camel owners can lead their camels across the path. When the red camel light turns on, camels stop, and pedestrians can pass safely. The special lights have not only solved the jam problem but also become a new tourist attraction—many visitors stop to take photos with them.
31. Why is Mingsha Mountain especially crowded in May ( )
A. Because it’s the start of the tourist season
B. Because the weather is neither too hot nor too cold
C. Because camel riding is only available in May
D. Because there are special activities in May
32. What caused traffic jams in the desert ( )
A. The narrow paths B. The bad weather
C. Too many tourists and camels D. Unclear signs
33. What do camel traffic lights look like ( )
A. They are shaped like camels B. They are all green and red
C. They are much bigger than normal lights D. They are hung on camel’s necks
34. What else do camel traffic lights bring besides solving jams ( )
A. More camels to the mountain B. New jobs for locals
C. A new tourist attraction D. Cheaper camel rides

Being polite is important in daily life, but it’s not always easy. Here are three simple tips to be more polite.
Smile first. A sweet smile is the easiest way to show kindness. When you meet someone, smiling first makes the other person feel welcome. You don’t need to smile broadly—even a small smile works.
Use “please”, “thank you” and “sorry”. These words are simple but powerful. When you ask for help, say “please”. When someone helps you, say “thank you”. If you make a mistake, say “sorry”. These words make people more willing to help you.
Speak softly when disagreeing. If you don’t agree with others, don’t shout or argue. Listen carefully first, then express your opinion in a soft voice. This shows you respect others’ ideas.
35. What is the easiest way to show kindness according to the text ( )
A. Saying “please” B. Smiling first C. Listening carefully D. Speaking softly

Here’s the route: Get out of school, turn left into Study Road. Go along and turn right to Park Street. Keep going until you see a bookstore on the right, then turn left. The museum is on your right.
Remember to be on time, no photos inside, and bring a notebook to take notes. We’ll have a great time!
