The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting (期待) all summer. I didn’t want summer to end, but I was excited about going to high school for my first week.
When I got to school in the morning on the first day, I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun.
After finishing four classes without too much of a challenge, I didn’t feel too bad about ninth grade. However, the fifth class changed everything. I didn’t feel ready after all. My teacher’s name is Mr. Valassidis but he told us to call him Mr. V. Mr. V told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing. But come on. 40 ESSAYS AP-level books Now I was afraid.
The courses in high school seem like they’re going to get much harder, but they haven’t yet. Even though my classes look hard, they look really exciting too.
The first week passed quickly. Although a lot of things were overwhelming (令人不知所措的): the size of the campus, the crowds ( 人群) and the seniors, having a totally different experience than I had ever had before was really exciting. Now, I’m really happy about high school. I have lots of friends in my classes, I really like my
teachers and I’m meeting new people.

You may not know a lot of people when you start senior high school. Maybe your friends from junior high school are going to a different senior high school. Even if you know other freshmen (一年级学生) , you still feel anxious that you don't know any upperclassmen. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Mast senior high schools hold the freshman orientation ( 迎新会) before school actually starts. It is helpful because you not only learn your way around the building but also get to meet some of your teachers and fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in senior high school is something freshmen are probably worried about. It builds on what you learned in junior high school, giving you a more advanced (高深的) knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
Senior high school also has more after-school activities than junior high school, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Junior high school taught you the basics of time management and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. Senior high school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.
How do the freshmen usually feel on their first day of senior high school A.Proud. B.Nervous C.Excited. D.Curious.
What are freshmen probably worried about
The learning task.
The ability to make friends.
The freshman orientation.
The relationship with teachers.
What do after-school activities mainly help students to do
Develop friendships.
Develop their interests.
Build up their strength.
Improve their learning ability.
What is the last paragraph mainly about
What you'll learn in senior high school.
What you learned in junior high school.
The difference between junior high school and senior high school.
The importance of being more independent and responsible.

ChatGPT, a smart Al chat-bot tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1 ,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task.
Developed by US company OpenAl, ChatGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create a food menu(食谱), translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US. Australia and France have banned (禁止) the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example,
New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the district's networks and devices(设备), CNN reported.
The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat (作弊) on study. Some
also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread wrong information.
"It does not build critical-thinking(批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic (学术的) and lifelong success, " said Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to stop the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones, The New York Times reported.
However, not all educators say “no”to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are drafting(起草)policies(政
策)on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely ban the tool so far.
Bhaskar Vira, headmaster for education at the University of Cambridge in the UK, said that bans on Al software like ChatGPT are not wise. "We have to know that AI is a tool people will use," he told Varsity, the school newspaper of the university. What we need to do is "adapt(调整)our learning, teaching and examinations".
That way, we can "have integrity (诚信) while recognizing the use of the tool".
Some schools in the US banned the use of ChatGPT because .
it probably takes the place of teachers
students may use it to cheat on homework
it rarely provides the correct information
it takes up most of the district's networks
Jenna Lyle thinks that .
ChatGPT is necessary for academic and lifelong success

Using ChatGPT makes students lazy in thinking.
The complete ban on using ChatGPT is not wise.
ChatGPT will completely change present education.
ChatGPT may be used for both teachers and students.

There are many things in senior middle school that I still remember clearly. I studied three years in a country school, which is faraway. However, it has a good environment and strict but kind teachers, so I loved the school and all my teachers very much. One Friday, just as we began to read books in reading class at our desks, our teacher, Mrs. Hill, said that she needed to be out of the classroom for a few minutes. She asked the class to read in silence while she was gone. And she said that those who didn’t read books in silence would have to answer to her when she returned. It was well-known that Mrs. Hill was strict. So we had to be on our best behavior.
But that Friday, Mrs. Hill hadn’t been gone for ten seconds before some students in the classroom started to talk. From one corner of the classroom I heard Josh ask Nick, “Can I trade my candies for your toy ” At the other end of the room I heard Samantha tell Kayla, “Let’s sit together on the bus for the museum field trip tomorrow.” And so it went all around me, until about half of the students talked with each other.
After a while, I, too, forgot about Mrs. Hill’s instructions. I turned back and asked my friend Liza, “Can I borrow your storybook and keep it for a day ” As soon as the words were out of my mouth, Mrs. Hill walked into the classroom. The whole class returned to silence immediately. And we were full of fear.
Mrs. Hill slowly looked around the classroom and said, “If you were talking while I was gone, then please stand up.” The guilt ( 内疚) suddenly weighed heavily on me. “I shouldn’t have talked while she was not in the classroom. And now I should be honest and admit my mistake bravely. This is what my parents have always told me, “I thought. Then, I summoned up (鼓起) my courage to stand up, worrying about the punishment that waited for me. Then I looked around.
注意:
续写词数应为 150 左右;
To my surprise, no one followed me.
With Mrs. Hill’s encouragement, another student stood up.

Hi, my name is Jack. I like my senior high school life. I’m a Grade 10 student. I’d like to talk about my courses. On Mondays, I have four classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. The first class is math. I like math. It’s easy. There are twenty-three students in my math class, including a few exchange students who come from different nations. Chemistry is a bit boring, and there are twenty students in that class. The teacher likes to wear formal clothes and he looks nice. My English class is small. Our English teacher always gives great lectures and I think it’s fun to speak English. Science is the biggest class. There are thirty students in that class— twenty male students and ten female students. Science is very hard, though. Each class, we have a test. I don’t like that!
The first class in the afternoon is physics and I like it best. The last class of the day is music, and we are active in that class.

D
32.B 33.B 34.C 35.D
E 37. A 38. B 39. F 40. G
上文“Most of us have one or a few bad habits that we’d like to get out of. (我们多数人或多或少都会有些想要摆脱的坏习惯。)”引入了文章的话题,摆脱坏习惯,E 项“但是你该怎么做呢”进行设问,下文“I have a few suggestions that have helped me and people around me.(我有一些建议,这些建议曾帮助过我和我周围的人。)”
下文“If you tell people around you that you will stop smoking or start to exercise three times a week, then they will check up on you. And you will feel you have to keep your promise because it is let out into the world.(如果你告诉
其中下文的“tell people around you”与 A 项的“Tell your friends and family”对应。故选 A 项。
是戒掉坏习惯的第二条建议,B 项“了解是什么让你形成了坏习惯”提出避开诱惑的做法是,了解你会受什么诱惑形成坏习惯,其中 B 项的“what”对应上文的 “temptations”,下文“Places where you are likely to spend too much money. Things in your cupboard that will not help you to get healthier and you should not have at home at all. And people that drag (拉) you down and back into your old ways. (比如,一些你可能会大花一笔的地方;橱柜里的东西,那种不利于健康、完全不应放家里的东西;或者是那些把你拖下水、让你变回老样子的人。)”则举出了可能让你形成坏习惯的诱惑的例子。所以 B 项符合题意。故选 B 项。
【39 题详解】
下文“It may seem like a good idea to change your life all at once. In our daily life, stress and lack (缺乏) of energy usually lead to failure. Don’t try to be Superman or Wonder Woman. Take it easy and break one habit at a time.(一下子改变你的生活似乎是个好主意。在我们的日常生活中,压力和缺乏能量通常会导致失败。不要试图成为超人或神奇女侠。放轻松,一次改掉一个习惯。)”讲的是我们很难一下子摆脱所有的坏习惯,应该按部就班,一次只摆脱一个习惯。由此可知,设空处对应的第三条戒掉坏习惯的建议是 F 项“不要想着一次戒掉一个以上的坏习惯”。其中下文的“It”指代 F 项的“break more than one habit at a time”。故选 F 项。
下文“You will probably not succeed the first time you do it. You fail and you make mistakes when you make changes and try new things. That’s just life and nothing to feel bad about. What you should do next is try again.(你很可能第一次并不会成功戒掉。当你做出改变,尝试新事物的时候,你会失败,犯错。生活就是这样的,你不必觉得这样很不好。你应该做的就是继续尝试。)”讲的是人们尝试戒掉坏习惯的时候,往往不会一次就能成功,但这是正常的,应该继续尝试戒掉。由此可知,设空处的内容应为 G 项“如果一开始你没有成功,请再试一次”,下文是对 G 项这一观点的解释。所以 G 项符合题意。故选 G 项。

Strangely, she asked in a soft voice, “Why did you dare to stand up ” I said I wanted to be honest and that I realized what I had done was wrong. Unexpectedly, Mrs. Hill was quite amazed by my answer and praised me for that. Then she returned to the front of the classroom and explained why we should be honest.
With Mrs. Hill’s encouragement, another student stood up. Then more students followed until about half of the students stood up. Seeing it, Mrs. Hill praised us for our courage.
