Do you do team projects at school? I do a lot. I enjoy team projects because I like sharing ideas with other people. Of course, team activities aren’t always easy. You need to know how to work well together. Here are some suggestions to make team work easier.
·Know the goals
Make sure everyone understands the goal of the project. If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions carefully and ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. There’s a popular saying: If you don’t know where you’re going, you probably won’t get there.
·Assign (指派) roles
Everyone should have a role in the team. For example, there should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions. There might be a note-taker who writes down the team’s ideas during meetings, and a time-keeper to control the time. There might also be a fact-checker or a group speaker.
·Divide the work
For large projects, the work can be divided into smaller tasks. Then you can choose tasks that you do well or enjoy. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. It’s good to try new things, even if they’re difficult!
·Make a plan
After you divide the work, write down a plan on paper. You can use a calendar to help you. List all the tasks and think about when each one must be finished. It’s important for everyone to follow the plan. And if you can’t finish your part on time, tell the others as soon as possible.
Try to be positive. Everything is easier when you’re enjoying yourself in the team.

A. By telling a story. B. By asking a question.
C. By showing a saying. D. By sending a message.
5. What is the leader’s main job in the team?
A. Controlling the activity time. B. Writing down the team’s ideas.

B. Give information about smaller tasks.
C. Explain the method to do team projects.
D. Describe the importance of creative ideas.

Recently, a design student has developed an auto-mini robot — “A” seedbot that can search through vast deserts, sowing seeds when it finds a suitable area to plant a tree.
The “A” seedbot, created by Mazyar Etehadi from the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, could be a new and creative way to transform deserts into greenery. “Planting trees in the desert area can keep the sand and protect the environment,” said Etehadi. It was launched at the Global Grad Show (GGS), an event that has designers come together to showcase innovations that could solve today’s environmental issues.
In an area where high temperatures are limiting to life, the importance of growing plants is crucial. Just eight inches long, the tiny robot is equipped with its own solar panels (太阳能板), allowing it to charge during the day and continue working through the night. It can operate all on its own, using its 3D-printed legs to search for viable spots to plant a seed. In doing so, designers seek to understand how roots work and also to design sensors that might monitor soil pollution, prospect for minerals and look for water.
The robot has a distance sensor that it uses to send reports back to its controller. The only time human needs to step in is to refill the robot with more seeds. “I think it was an easy solution to come up with, but no one had made it, and here comes my idea! It means a lot to the people who have been fighting against the deserts for generations,” said Etehadi. Going forward, he hopes his idea can be adopted by the government, the farming industry, and private individuals as a more efficient way to grow plants.
8. Why did Etehadi develop the “A” seedbot?
A. To lower the temperature. B. To protect the trees.
C. To turn the desert into greenery. D. To win the prize in the GGS.
9. What can we know about the “A” seedbot?
A. It can work around the clock. B. It is powered by electricity.
C. It monitors minerals and water. D. It can refill itself with seeds.
10. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “viable” in paragraph 3?
A. Distant. B. Empty. C. Dry. D. Suitable.
11. What is the passage mainly about?
A. A project for creation. B. A robot for sowing seeds.
C. A student gifted in design. D. A proposal for environmental protection.
D
They say that "travel is the best teacher" and there is no better example of this idea than the Ming dynasty travel writer and geographer Xu Xiake (1587-1641). His book The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake, not only encouraged a love of travelling among Chinese people but provided important scientific information about the country's land and geography.
Born into a wealthy Jiangyin family, Xu became interested in books about different places at an early age and wanted to travel. When he was 18, however. Xu's father died and so, it seemed, did his travelling dreams. He now was responsible for the family farm and taking care of his 60-year-old mother as tradition required.
But his mother had different ideas. Understanding her son’s love of travel and valuing the knowledge he could get from such experiences, this modern-thinking woman refused to keep her son at home. She agreed that Xu could travel for three months every year, when there was less farm work.
So at the age of twenty and with his mother's support, Xu set off for the first time, leaving behind not only his mother but his new wife as well. He would repeat this goodbye each year for most of the next 30 years. During this time, he travelled throughout the Ming kingdom, carefully studying the lands he passed through and recording his experiences and many discoveries in a diary. This diary, which once had over 500,000 words, would eventually become The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake.
Although rich, Xu avoided comfortable travel, preferring to go almost everywhere on foot. This way he could research the environment in detail and get a true picture of the natural world. Many of his trips were to hard-to-reach mountain areas, and through wild forests where few people lived. His willingness to face hardships came at a cost however. Progress was slow and tiring and he was frequently sick, robbed and beaten during his journeys
Sadly Xu became seriously ill during his last and longest journey, a 4-year trip through the Southwest of China. He died in 1641, soon after returning to his hometown for the last time. When his diary was finally printed years after his death, much of it had been destroyed or lost. Although incomplete, it still made Xu a travelling legend around the world.
12. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The influence of Xu's book The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake.
B. The difficulties Xu Xiake faced in his travels.
C. The important discoveries made by Xu Xiake.
D. The general details of Xu Xiake's life story.
13. Which of the following best describes Xu's mother?
A. Supportive and open-minded. B. Kind but uneducated.
C. Helpful and hardworking. D. Strict but interesting.
14. Why did Xu prefer walking during his travels?
A. It gave him the chance to meet different kinds of people.
B. It allowed him to see and study the environment in detail.
C. It helped him to save money and travel for a longer time.
D. It was the only way to reach the places he was interested in.
15. What is true about Xu's book The Travel Notes of Xu xiake?
A. It was mainly about the different people of China.
B. It made Xu very famous during his lifetime.
C. It was the first travel book ever written in China.
D. It was only made public after Xu died.

Monday started out great. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my first hour math test. I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house. Ten minutes later, I was settled with my friends on the school bus. We were busy chatting about how we spent our weekend. At one stop, Fat Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped over someone’s foot accidentally and THUMP! He fell flat onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily. Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted the jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by. I did well in my math test. I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn’t long before there went the lunch bell. I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn’t help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking. I smiled at him quickly and looked away.
When we finished eating, we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night’s football game. After a little practice, we nailed the cheer, so we decided we only needed to go through it one last time. Again, just like the rest of my day so far, the cheer was going great. I raised my leg for one last toe touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans split down the middle of my backside.
I froze. I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing, and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears began to well up in my eyes.
注意:
1. 续写词数应150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Then I saw Ryan running towards me.

【答案】 Then I saw Ryan running towards me. Suddenly the scene struck me where he fell flat and I laughed at him crazily, I thought he would join in with those laughing at me. I lowered my head, my face burning with embarrassment. However, Ryan didn’t laugh. Instead, he approached me from behind, quickly took off his jacket and offered it to me, signaling to me to cover my torn jeans. Struggling against my tears, I did want to express my gratitude to him but courage failed me. I felt the courtyard in total silence.
That night, after the cheer at the football game, I found Ryan. I thanked him for giving me his jacket and returned it to him. Gathering my courage, I sincerely apologized to him for my misconduct on the bus, and thanked him for helping me out of an equally embarrassing situation. Ryan, with a broad smile, patted me on the shoulder and told me to forget about it, joking he fell like that a lot. I admired his honesty and sense of humor, and realized that he was someone I could be great friends with. Honestly, Monday was a great day indeed!
