Dragon-Head-Raising Festival is on the second day of the second Chinese lunar month to show respect to the Dragon King and wish good weather for a big harvest (丰收). It is considered the start of spring and farming.
After the cold winter, spring comes and animals are awake. But because of the winter, the weather is dry and farming needs water. The story goes that after this day, the Dragon King who controls clouds and rain would wake from his winter sleep and bring rain for the crops (庄稼).
On that day, there are lots of traditional celebration activities. First, in the early morning when it’s still dark, families go to a river or a well with lanterns to get water and then carry it back home. Then they light candles, burn incense (香) sticks and offer sacrifices (祭品). This ritual is named “Yintianlong” (lead the field dragon). People believe the actions can bring wealth and health to their homes.
The most well-known tradition on the day is having a haircut. It’s a sign of good luck and energy (力量) during the whole year. However, it’s said that it will bring bad luck if you get a haircut during the first lunar month.
Eating “dragon” food is another important part of celebrations. Noodles which are long and thin are called “dragon beard (long xu)”. Dumplings are called “dragon ears (long er)”. Spring rolls are “dragon scales (long lin)”, and people call popcorn “dragon seeds (long zi)”

If you put your history notes under your pillow (枕头) and sleep on them the night before an exam, will you do any better in the exam Most of us have hoped this may help. However, knowledge can’t go through the pillow into your brain. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn while you are asleep.
Scientists aren’t exactly sure how it works, but they have discovered that the brain can learn things during sleeping hours.
In one experiment (实验), researchers gave German speakers some Dutch words to learn. Then, they divided them into three groups. The researchers played the Dutch words for people in Group 1 while they were asleep, without telling these German speakers what they were doing. The sound was low so it didn’t wake them up, and only the newly introduced words were used.
Another group listened to the same words while they were awake. The researchers found the people in Group 1 were better able to identify (识别) and translate (翻译) the words later. This was true only for the words that were played while they slept. The third group listened to the words when they walked. The walkers didn’t have the same success in remembering the words as the sleeping group.
The researchers later found that people had more slow-wave brain activities all over the night. They said that more slow waves made people have a better memory for the new words.
31.When did the researchers play foreign words for people in Group 1 in the experiment
A.Before they went for a walk. B.Before they went to bed.

34.What can we learn from the passage

B.German speakers enjoy learning Dutch words.
C.Slow-wave brain activities can help people have a good sleep.
D.People in Group 3 didn’t remember the words as well as those in Group 1.
35.Where is the passage most probably from
A.A history textbook. B.A science magazine.
C.A travel newspaper. D.A modern novel.

“I don’t like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry,” said Zhang Hua, a middle school student in Zhengzhou. Do you have the same problem Perhaps your parents had the same problem when they were your age long ago. Why does it seem that some parents are not so friendly in their children’s eyes
One of the biggest things is when someone becomes a parent, he/she likes worrying about things. They worry about everything about you, from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get, etc. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.
So how can you make things easier on yourself It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Get them to know your friends. Phone if you stay somewhere else so that your parents don’t call every hospital in the phone book looking for your body. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Take responsibility for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you. Some day, when you become a parent, they may be able to show you how to get on well with your children.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Singapore.
First of all, I’d like to talk about something about it. Singapore is a small island in southeast Asia. It is a wonderful place to take a holiday. In Singapore, more than three quarters of the population are Chinese, so you can simply speak Putonghua a lot of the time. It’s also an English-speaking country, so it’s also a good place to practice your English. Most large cities have zoos, but have you ever been to a zoo at night Singapore has a Night Safari. It might seem strange to go to a zoo when it’s dark. However, if you go to see lions or tigers during the daytime, they’ll probably be asleep. A lot of animals only wake up at night, so this is the best time to watch them. One great thing about Singapore is that the temperature is almost the same all year round.
This is because the island is so close to the equator. So you can choose to come whenever you like, spring, summer, autumn or winter. And, of course, it’s not too far from China.

I’ve loved animals since I was a little girl, but my parents are busy at work all day and I’m at school until five pm. This is why every time I asked to get a pet, they said no. Things changed on a rainy day a few years ago. I was coming back from school with my best friend when we saw a rubbish bin move. There was a black bag inside, and when she took it out and opened it, I saw a little dog. I think it was less than a month old because some of its teeth were still missing. The dog looked sad and hungry, so I took it home. While I was waiting for my parents to get back, I gave the dog some meat and water. The dog drank the whole bowl of water, but it didn’t eat anything. Then it lay down on the carpet in the living room and slept. When my parents got home, they were surprised. My father sat down on the sofa and the dog jumped onto his legs. “Tina, how cute the dog is!” Dad smiled and said, touching its head. My mother went into the kitchen and came back with some meat. This time, the dog ate it. Then she asked me to choose a name for it. She also said if I wanted to keep the dog, I would have to look after it every day. We have had Lucky for four years now. She’s part of my family and we all love her.
