Lesson 13: Be Careful, Danny!

五、Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm - up
- Greet the students.
- Ask some questions:
Have you ever climbed on a chair to get something
Was it safe
- Let students discuss in pairs and then share their answers.
Step 2: Presentation
1. New Words Teaching
- Read the words aloud and ask students to repeat.

- Use simple sentences to explain the words
※serious adj. 严重的;严肃的
副词 : seriously
be serious about sb. / (doing) sth.
对某人 / ( 做 ) 某事认真
eg:You should be serious about your homework.
[ 拓展 ] 比较级 : more serious
最高级 : most serious
2. Story Introduction
- Show the PPT with pictures from the story. Ask students to guess what happened.
Step 3: While - reading
1. First Reading
- Play the audio of the story. Ask students to listen and find out what Danny wanted to do. (Answer: Danny wanted to hang a yellow star from the ceiling over the desk.)
2. Second Reading
- Ask students to read the story by themselves. Then, ask some questions:
What were Danny,Jenny and Brian doing
What did Danny climb onto
Did Danny need an ambulance
Who is Jenny going to call
3. Third Reading
- Divide students into groups. Let each group read a part of the story and learn about the dialogue.
※I'm going to hang it from the ceiling over the desk.

hang v. “ 悬挂 ; 垂下 ” 过去式和过去分词 : hung
eg : She hung the family photo on the wall of her bedroom.
[拓展] hang 的短语
hang up 把 …… 挂起来( 动副词短语 )
eg : Your raincoat is too wet. Please hang it up.
hang out 闲逛
eg : Students aren't allowed to hang out after 10:00 in the evening.
※I don't think my arm is broken. 我想我的胳膊并没有折。
将 think,believe,suppose,expect 等动词后面宾语从句的否定词转移到主句中,叫 “ 否定转移 ” , 即主句的谓语动词用否定式,而从句的谓语动词用肯定式。
eg : I don't think I know you.
I don't believe he will come.
[注意] 若谓语动词为 hope , 宾语从句中的否定词不能转移。
eg : I hope you weren't ill. 我希望你没有生病。
Step 4: Post - reading
1. Retell the Story
- Guide students to retell the story using Let`s Do It-Ex.2
For example: “Danny, Jenny and Brian are decorating the art classroom. Danny wants to hang a yellow star. He climbs onto a chair. Then he falls. Brian tries to catch him but gets hurt. Mr. Jones asks Jenny to call Brian’s mother.”
2. Discussion
- Ask students: “What should Danny do to be safe next time ” Let students discuss in groups and share their ideas.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
1. Summary
- Recap the new words, sentences and the safety lesson from the story.
2. Homework
① Write a short passage about a time when you were careful or not careful. Use at least three new words from today’s lesson.
② Practice reading the story with a partner.
