Colours can perhaps influence us in a variety of ways, including influencing our feelings and energy levels. Colours can also influence certain things about the way of thinking and acting. You have probably had the experience of walking into a room and not feeling very comfortable. Perhaps the smell of the room, the furniture, or even the colour of the room influences you.
There have been experiments where participants (参与者) were given different coloured pills. The pill was empty with no medication inside them. The participants were given the blue and similar cool-coloured pills had a relaxing and calming feeling. The other participants that were given red and other brightly coloured pills developed increased energy levels. Their moods and energy levels were influenced by the colour of the pills.
Some cities have experimented with installing (安装) blue street lighting. The surveys in these cities show that crime and disorderly behaviour reduced after the lighting was installed. This is believed to be because of the calming and relaxing influence that blue has on the mind. Other studies have also shown how colours can affect our appetite (食欲). Blue is believed to suppress appetite, while red, orange and other warm colours can increase appetite.
You will often find brighter colours in restaurants and other food stores to stimulate your appetite. Darker colours like blue and green can make you relax. You will often find these colours in hospitals.
It's important to keep in mind that not everybody is affected by colours. For some people, colours are very important. And for others, colours may have little or no influence on them.
