根据第一段中“Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangerous hailstones.”
根据第一段中“But farmers in east-central Alberta—downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by cloud seeding.” 故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“Does cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind No one really knows, of course, but the seeding goes on.”
根据最后一段“In practice, doubt has had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against cloud-seeding companies. Hence, private climate engineering can proceed in relative legal safety.”
1.E 根据上文“Some wild animals become regular visitors to our cities, such as coyotes (丛林狼) in Los Angeles or boars (野猪) in Berlin.”
2.A 根据下文“They do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife.”
3.F 根据前文“At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them.”及下文“The bats are a tourist attraction, and they eat lots of bugs every night.”
4.D 根据前文“The park used native plants and created open, natural spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160 species of birds.”与下文“Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move about freely.”
5.C 根据上文“As humans, it is important to take measures to prevent conflicts and appreciate the presence of them.”及下文“And our own future will be endangered.”
故填A。
固定短语aim to do sth意为“旨在做某事”。故填to reveal。
故填As。
故填who。
10.have been made 考查动词时态、语态和主谓一致。 故填have been made。
One possible version:
Several minutes passed, but no help came. The air inside the lift grew stale, and panic started to set in. Mrs Lim’s condition was worsening, and I felt a sense of helplessness creeping over me. I tried to stay calm and think of a way out, but the situation seemed dire. The silence was deafening, broken only by Mrs Lim’s laboured breathing and occasional sobs. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly as we waited for a miracle.
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. Relief flooded through me as I realized help had finally arrived. The sound of tools clanging against the door signalled their efforts to rescue us. Moments later, the door was pried open, and fresh air rushed in. We were safe. Mrs Lim was quickly attended to by the paramedics, and I was filled with gratitude for their swift response. When we were escorted out of the lift, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of appreciation for the fragility of life and the importance of helping others in times of need. In recent years, an increasing number of wild animals 1. (find) making cities their new homes. These newcomers adapt quickly and flourish in their new territories. Out of reach of their natural predators, urban life seems less hostile. Racoons are seen enjoying the lamb kebabs and garlic bread 2. they found in the garbage. Foxes are sleeping indoors in the suburb of London.
However, the presence of wildlife in cities poses a threat to public safety. There are 3. (terrify) reports that monkeys 4. (fierce) attacked residents. Some are greedy enough to commit crimes by robbing and stealing like 5. (thief). Worse still, a chacma baboon was suspected of starting a blaze deliberately, killing two firefighters who attempted to bring the fire under control.
How we should react 6. our wild neighbours is crucial. It is widely believed that we should learn to appreciate their presence instead of eliminating them. However, I am not 7. (optimism) about the future of mankind. We are facing too many problems to cope with. With wildlife 8. (take) over, humans may be wiped out one day.
For 9. (survive), perhaps we can build our new homes on Mars. So far, we have been sending unmanned spacecraft orbiting the distant planet. I am convinced that with the efforts of the space agency, in the near future, we will board advanced capsules and head towards 10. red planet.

On September 7, 1991, the costliest hailstorm (雹暴) in Canadian history hit Calgary’s southern suburbs. As a result, since 1996 a group of insurance companies have spent about $2 million per year on the Alberta Hail Suppression Project. Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangerous hailstones. But farmers in east-central Alberta—downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by cloud seeding.
Norman Stienwand, who farms in that area, has been addressing public meetings on this issue for years. “Basically, the provincial government is letting the insurance companies protect the Calgary-Edmonton urban area from hail,” Mr Stienwand says, “but they’re increasing drought risk as far east as Saskatchewan.”
The Alberta hail project is managed by Terry Krauss, a cloud physicist who works for Weather Modification Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota. “We affect only a very small percentage of the total moisture in the air, so we cannot be causing drought,” Dr Krauss says. “In fact, we may be helping increase the moisture downwind by creating wetter ground.”
One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck Doswell, a research scientist who just retired from the University of Oklahoma. “In 1999, I personally saw significant tornadoes (龙卷风) form from a seeded storm cell in Kansas,” Dr Doswell says. “Does cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind No one really knows, of course, but the seeding goes on.”
Given the degree of doubt, Mr Stienwand suggests, “It would be wise to stop cloud seeding.” In practice, doubt has had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against cloud-seeding companies. Hence, private climate engineering can proceed in relative legal safety.

Cities are diverse ecosystems. Some wild animals become regular visitors to our cities, such as coyotes (丛林狼) in Los Angeles or boars (野猪) in Berlin. 1. As our cities spread, we need to think about what it is like for other species to have human neighbours.
2. They do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife. For example, most city parks are kept neat and tidy so that humans will find them beautiful. But when we cut grass or plant flowers, we destroy natural habitats.
Our actions sometimes help other species. When a bridge in Austin, Texas was repaired, engineers added small gaps running along the length of its bottom. This made a good home for bats, and soon the bridge was the home of thousands of bats. At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them. 3. The bats are a tourist attraction, and they eat lots of bugs every night.
There are also structures built with the aim of bringing wildlife into the city. The Beijing Olympic Forest Park is a good example. The park used native plants and created open, natural spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160 species of birds. 4. Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move about freely. Sometimes, the visitors can encounter a gaggle of geese walking on the bank or swimming in the water leisurely.
While cities pose challenges for wildlife, they are finding ways to adapt and thrive in urban environments. As humans, it is important to take measures to prevent conflicts and appreciate the presence of them. 5. And our own future will be endangered.
A.Cities are built for humans.
B.The park is intended to protect birds.
C.If we do not, more species will become extinct.
D.In many ways, the park is the opposite of a zoo.
E.Also, a large number of species share our urban areas.
F.Now, they have come to value their winged neighbours.
G.Soon, the bats are adaptable and can thrive in human-built structures.

When we were finally dismissed from the last class of the day, the students streamed out of the classrooms. It was another boring day after school. I dragged my feet home as I sighed. Yet another uneventful day, I thought. Little did I know that the day would take a turn for the worse.
The lift lobby (电梯间) of my flat was old and dirty. The walls, which were painted white, had been dirtied over many years. I reached my flat’s lobby, and pressed the lift button and went in. Just then, Mrs Lim, my elderly neighbour, hobbled (蹒跚) in. She looked ancient with tissue paper white hair, wearing a faded old-fashioned dress. I held the lift door open, flashing a friendly smile, and politely greeted her. I asked her how she felt that day and pressed the buttons. She thanked me for being so polite, and then we were silent for the rest of the ride.
The lift fell down increasingly fast. There were loud clanking sounds here and there while the lift grew slower and slower. My heart beat hard and fast as my hands turned cold and wet with sweat. Unfortunately, the lift came to an abrupt stop at the fifth floor. I pressed the buttons hard several times, but it was of no help. The lights on the buttons had gone out. It soon dawned on me that we were trapped. An icy fear crept up my spine. Mrs Lim was hysterical
“We will never get out!” she cried with her face pale. It had become a colourless mask. I had no time to lose. I pressed the bell in the lift immediately. The sound was surely deafening, but what other choice did I have Mrs Lim burst into tears. I tried my very best to comfort her, telling her that everything would be all right and that we needed to find out how to get out safely. Mrs Lim began having trouble breathing, and I immediately helped her sit down and loosen her collar.

On September 7, 1991, the costliest hailstorm (雹暴) in
Canadian history hit Calgary's southern suburbs. As a result,
since 1996 a group of insurance companies have spent about
$2 million per year on the Alberta Hail Suppression Project.

dangerous hailstones. But farmers in east-central Alberta—
downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious
moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by cloud
seeding.
Norman Stienwand, who farms in that area, has been
addressing public meetings on this issue for years. “Basically, the
provincial government is letting the insurance companies protect
the Calgary-Edmonton urban area from hail,” Mr Stienwand says,
“but they're increasing drought risk as far east as Saskatchewan.”

The Alberta hail project is managed by Terry Krauss, a
cloud physicist who works for Weather Modification Inc. of
Fargo, North Dakota. “We affect only a very small percentage of
the total moisture in the air, so we cannot be causing drought,”
Dr Krauss says. “In fact, we may be helping increase the
moisture downwind by creating wetter ground.”
One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck
Doswell, a research scientist who just retired from the University
of Oklahoma. “In 1999, I personally saw significant tornadoes

(龙卷风) form from a seeded storm cell in Kansas,” Dr Doswell
says. “Does cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce
moisture downwind No one really knows, of course, but the
seeding goes on.”
Given the degree of doubt, Mr Stienwand suggests, “It
would be wise to stop cloud seeding.” In practice, doubt has
had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof
concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a
lawsuit against cloud-seeding companies. Hence, private climate
engineering can proceed in relative legal safety.

Cities are diverse ecosystems. Some wild animals become
regular visitors to our cities, such as coyotes (丛林狼) in Los
Angeles or boars (野猪) in Berlin. 1.___ As our cities spread, we
need to think about what it is like for other species to have
human neighbours.
2.___ They do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife.

humans will find them beautiful. But when we cut grass or plant
flowers, we destroy natural habitats.
Our actions sometimes help other species. When a bridge
in Austin, Texas was repaired, engineers added small gaps
running along the length of its bottom. This made a good
home for bats, and soon the bridge was the home of
thousands of bats. At first, people were afraid of the bats and
tried to get rid of them. 3.___ The bats are a tourist attraction,
and they eat lots of bugs every night.

There are also structures built with the aim of bringing
wildlife into the city. The Beijing Olympic Forest Park is a good
example. The park used native plants and created open, natural
spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160
species of birds. 4.___ Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife
can move about freely. Sometimes, the visitors can encounter a
gaggle of geese walking on the bank or swimming in the water
leisurely.

When we were finally dismissed from the last class of the
day, the students streamed out of the classrooms. It was
another boring day after school. I dragged my feet home as I
sighed. Yet another uneventful day, I thought. Little did I know
that the day would take a turn for the worse.
The lift lobby (电梯间) of my flat was old and dirty. The
walls, which were painted white, had been dirtied over many
years. I reached my flat's lobby, and pressed the lift button and
went in. Just then, Mrs Lim, my elderly neighbour, hobbled
(蹒跚) in. She looked ancient with tissue paper white hair,
wearing a faded old-fashioned dress. I held the lift door open,
flashing a friendly smile, and politely greeted her. I asked her
how she felt that day and pressed the buttons. She thanked me
for being so polite, and then we were silent for the rest of the
ride.
The lift fell down increasingly fast. There were loud clanking
sounds here and there while the lift grew slower and slower.
My heart beat hard and fast as my hands turned cold and wet
with sweat. Unfortunately, the lift came to an abrupt stop at the
fifth floor. I pressed the buttons hard several times, but it was
of no help. The lights on the buttons had gone out. It soon
dawned on me that we were trapped. An icy fear crept up my
spine. Mrs Lim was hysterical
“We will never get out!” she cried with her face pale. It
had become a colourless mask. I had no time to lose. I pressed
the bell in the lift immediately. The sound was surely deafening,
but what other choice did I have Mrs Lim burst into tears. I
tried my very best to comfort her, telling her that everything
would be all right and that we needed to find out how to get
out safely. Mrs Lim began having trouble breathing, and I
immediately helped her sit down and loosen her collar.
Paragraph 1:
Several minutes passed, but no help came.___________________
__________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters
on the other side of the lift door ._________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
Mrs
Mrs
One possible version:
Several minutes passed, but no help came. The air inside
the lift grew stale, and panic started to set in. Mrs Lim's
condition was worsening, and I felt a sense of helplessness
creeping over me. I tried to stay calm and think of a way out,
but the situation seemed dire. The silence was deafening,
broken only by Mrs Lim's laboured breathing and occasional
sobs. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly as we waited for a
miracle.
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters
on the other side of the lift door. Relief flooded through me as
I realized help had finally arrived. The sound of tools
clanging against the door signalled their efforts to rescue us.
Moments later, the door was pried open, and fresh air rushed
in. We were safe. Mrs Lim was quickly attended to by the
paramedics, and I was filled with gratitude for their swift
response. When we were escorted out of the lift, I couldn't
help but feel a profound sense of appreciation for the
fragility of life and the importance of helping others in times of
need.
