It is my great honor to introduce Tu Youyou, the first Chinese female scientist to win the Nobel Prize.
Born in 1930 in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, Tu Youyou graduated from Peking University in 1955 and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2015.
Dr. Tu began leading a team working on antimalarial drugs in 1969. Starting from traditional Chinese medicine, they carried out experimental research on more than 200 kinds of Chinese medicines. After more than 380 failures, they finally succeeded in discovering the antimalarial drug artemisinin, which has saved the lives of millions of people around the world, especially in developing countries.
Tu Youyou is such a great scientist with great achievements that we are all proud of her. She is a real role model for us to learn from.
