Adverb Clauses of Time(时间状语从句)
用来修饰谓语动词、其他动词、定语、状语或整个句子的从句叫状语从句。状语从句有很多种，今天我们主要学习由when, while, before, after, as soon as, since, until引导的时间状语从句。
when从句的动作可与主句的动作同时发生，也可先于主句的动作；
从句的谓语动词可以是延续性动词，也可以是瞬间性动词
并且when有时意为“就在那时”。
When I got home, he was watching TV.
当我到家的时候，他正在看电视。
Mozart started writing music when he was four years old.
当莫扎特四岁的时候，开始写音乐作品。
I was about to go out when the telephone rang.
我刚要出门，电话铃响了。
when与while 都意为“当……的时候”。when 引导的时间状语从句, 谓语动词既可以是持续性的, 也可以是终止性的；而while引导的时间状语从句, 谓语动词只能是持续性的, 并且常用进行时态。试比较：
When he woke up, it was nine o’clock． √
While he woke up, it was nine o’clock． ×
When I was waiting for a bus, I met her． √
While I was waiting for a bus, I met her． √
辨析
三、before引导的时间状语从句
before表示主句的动作发生在从句之前。
e.g. I can’t tell you what happened before he comes back.
他回来之前我不能告诉你发生什么了。
四、after引导的时间状语从句
after表示主句的动作发生在从句的动作之后。
e.g. After she finished the task, she enjoyed a happy vacation.
完成任务后，她好好地度了一个假。
类型 用法 例句
6.由since引导的时间状语从句 since意为“自从……”,从句用一般过去时,主句用现在完成时。常用句型:It has been+一段时间+since从句,意为“自从……以来已经很久了”。 We haven't seen him since he left.
自从他离开后,我们就没见过他了
It has been two years since I met you the first time.
从我第一次见你到现在已经两年了
类型 用法 例句
7.由until/till引导的时间状语从句 until/till表示动作或状态一直持续到某个时刻,即“直到……”。 (1)表示“直到……为止”,主句和从句都用肯定式,主句谓语动词为持续性动词。 I'll wait until /till he comes back.
我会一直等到他回来为止。
(2)表示“直到……才”,主句用否定式,从句用肯定式,主句谓语动词为短暂性动词。 She didn't go to bed until she finished her homework.她直到做完家庭作业才上床睡觉。

Public holidays in the US
