一、Teaching Objectives

Students can master new words and understand the letters about scientific experiments and the impact of science.
Students will be able to orally express at least two ways science affects daily life using sentence patterns like "Science affects us by making it possible to..." or "The development of ... has changed the way we..."

Students learn about the importance of science in daily life, develop an interest in scientific experiments and discoveries, and understand how science shapes our world.

Step1. Warm-up
展示图片:快速展示几张与生活息息相关的科学发明图片(如:智能手机、Wi-Fi图标、疫苗、微波炉等)。
Greeting: "Good morning, class! What do these pictures have in common ” (引导学生说出“Science”或“Technology”)
追问:“Which one can you NOT live without Why ” 引出主题“Science Affects Us”。
Discussion:
What scientific inventions do you use every day
How do they affect your life
Step2. Presentation
New Words Teaching:
- Affects: "Weather affects our mood."
- Developments: "There are many new developments in technology."
development n .发展→ develop v .发展 developing adj .发展中的→ developed adj .发达的
- Discoveries: "Scientists have made great discoveries in space."
discovery n .发现;发觉→ discoveries (复数)
※suggest v .建议,提议;暗示→ suggest "建议,提议",后常接名词、代词、动词的﹣ ing 形式或 that 从句,从句中用 should 表虚拟, should 可省略。→ suggestion n .建议,为可数名词。 advice 也表示"意见,建议",但为不可数名词。

- Let students read the words aloud and make their own sentences.
- Text Introduction: Introduce the two letters between Jenny and Wang Mei. Ask,

Step3. Reading
First Reading:
1.Read the letters quickly and match the main idea to each paragraph/letter.
Letter from Jenny: A. A fun science experiment about air pressure.
Letter from Wang Mei: B. The importance of science in our daily lives.
2.Ask students to read and fill in the blanks.

Second Reading:
活动1、Read the letters together as a class and answer the questions.

Step4. Practice
教师提前准备好杯子、纸板和水,在课堂上真实演示“空气压力实验”。开展“教师演示,学生解说”的互动活动。
教师做实验动作,提问学生:“What am I doing now ” 引导学生说出关键步骤的英语表达,如:“You are filling the jar with water.”
在实验最关键的“倒转”时刻,可以先让学生预测:“What will happen when I turn it over Will the water fall ” 增加悬念和互动。
实验后,邀请1-2名学生上台,尝试用英语复述实验步骤和原理。教师从旁提供语言支持。
Step5. Production
Writing Task: Let students write a letter to a friend, introducing a scientific experiment they know or a scientific development that interests them, using the new words.
句型框架(写在PPT上):

[Here, describe the experiment steps OR talk about the development].

Step6. Summary and Homework
Summary: Recap the new words and the main content of the letters. Emphasize how science affects daily life.
