Should we keep war memories forever memories?
(A passage for debate)
Memories of anti-Japanese war never fade
More people came to visit Shanghai Songhu Resistant War Museum Monday, the memorial day of the Songhu Resistant War against Japanese invasion(侵略), which happened in the city 64 years ago.
Xu Caimei, who lives in Baoshan District, burst into tears when asked to talk about her experiences during the war. Sixteen members of Xu's family were killed by Japanese invaders.
The Songhu Resistant War started on August 13, 1937, when the Japanese invaders attempted to enlarge the area under their control in China.
"The memory of the war won't fade easily from Chinese people's minds. On the contrary, it will become more bright as it passes from generation to generation", said Wu Jinan, a professor with Shanghai Institute for International Studies.”
Should we keep war memories forever memories?
(A passage for debate)
Thirty years after North Vietnam defeated the U.S. and ended the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese view of the United States - even among those who fought the Americans - is generally favorable.
On Liberation Day, the attitudes of people towards the one-time enemy have changed. Almost everyone says they can forgive the war, if not forget. 10 years ago, when then-President Bill Clinton visited Vietnam, he was greeted like a rock star.
Vietnamese government spokesman Le Dung says the war itself is no longer an obstacle to relations. "I think that the war has been over for 30 years and it is high time to open a new page in the relations of Vietnam and the U.S.." he said.
Most ordinary Vietnamese have already turned the page on history. More than 60 percent of Vietnam's population was born after the war ended, and the younger generations hold no bitterness toward America.
Thousands of Vietnamese students now study in American universities and young people are more eager to buy newly available iPod music players than to recall the past.
Nguyen Thu Ha, a 22-year-old student of international relations, says the war is ancient history to her.
"Of course, we have to remember that America attacked Vietnam, but we don't judge the American people. It is history. We should not forget the past, but what matters is moving to the future. "
But as Vietnam observes the 30th anniversary this week, memories of battles are fading, and former enemies are forgiving each other - a hopeful legacy(后遗症) for a conflict that ruined a generation in both countries.

She died at the age of 15 in one of history's greatest tragedies. But her spirit lives on to this day through the diary in which she recorded her experiences.
Though touched by despair and terror, the message of hope in her words has inspired many. Anne Frank, the most famous hidden child of World War II, is indeed a symbol of the Holocaust (大屠杀). Her secret writings, later published as "The Diary of Anne Frank", tell of two years in the life of a young Jewish (犹太族的) girl hiding in Nazi-controlled Amsterdam.
To mark the 75th anniversary of her birth, on June 12, 2004, 21世纪教育网annefrank.org is to publish some rare photographs and a short film of the girl taken when she was 12.

A. Use the words or phrases in the stories that share the same meaning to replace the underlined parts.
Death of a Village
Together with other villagers they were driven a few hundred metres into the village square.
Surprisingly, he watched as the soldiers set up a machine gun.
The silence ended. The people began crying and begging.
Chuc was wounded in the leg and almost unable to feel.
After waiting for an hour, he escaped from the village.
No More Fighting
On Christmas morning, we set up a board with “A Merry Christmas” on it.
One of their men, speaking in English, told us that he had worked in England for some years and that he was bored with this war.
Bill gave out the beer among us and we drank all of the beer.
The officers agreed that we would celebrate Christmas peacefully until midnight.
We had united and come to an agreement and during the whole of Boxing Day we never fired a shot and they the same; each side seemed to be waiting for the other to start shooting again.
A Brave Patient
Don’t oversell the product or you’ll make your customer dislike it.
This patient still had fresh scars from his first visit to us and this time both his legs had been blown off.
He woke up after the doctor had finished putting bandages on his remaining legs.
After this little thing, I went over and gently held him with my arms.
I really admire him for that. I promise that it was the only time I let somebody see what I felt.
Trapped
I and a man I knew were walking behind an English pub once, going back to our base, and we saw one of our planes come over and flying westwards for an American base.
We didn’t know if it still had its bombs on it or if it was coming back from Germany, so we were afraid of going near it.
I tried to phone the American base, but I failed.
Several fire fighters came, but nobody dared to go near the plane.
