Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Warming Up
1. Make a conversation using the following sentence structures:
— What's this festival
— It is...
— What do you like best about...
— I think / believe... that.
Design Intent: This step aims to activate students' prior knowledge about festivals and get them familiar with the sentence structures that will be used in this lesson, laying a foundation for the subsequent discussions and learning.
Step 2 Role Play
1. Free talk: Where can we experience the Water Festival
Do you know anything about the Water Festival in Thailand
2. Read the dialogue in 2d, then answer the questions:
When is Clara going to Chiang Mai Why is she going at that time
Why are the Dai people mentioned in the dialogue
When is the Water Festival in Thailand And what do people always do
Why do people throw water at each other
3. Fill in the blanks according to the conversation.
Design Intent: Through free talk, students can share their knowledge about the Water Festival, which helps to arouse their interest in the topic. Reading the dialogue and answering questions can improve students' reading comprehension skills and help them grasp the key information about the festival. Filling in the blanks reinforces their understanding of the dialogue content.
Step 3 Presentation
1. Read the sentences in GF and sum up the sentence patterns.
Object Clauses
① Concept: In a complex sentence, the clause that acts as an object is called an object clause.
② Three elements of object clauses: conjunctions, word order, tense.
- Object clauses introduced by "that" (situations where "that" cannot be omitted):
- Subject + predicate + it (formal object) + object complement + that - clause (real object).
- Two object clauses introduced by "that" and connected by "and"; the second "that" is not omitted.
- When "that" serves as the object of prepositions like "expect" or "in", it is not omitted.
- Object clauses introduced by "if / whether"
- Word order: Object clauses use declarative word order, that is, "subject comes before the predicate".
- Tense:
Exclamatory Sentences:
- "What" is followed by a noun / noun phrase:
- What + a / an + adj. + singular noun + (subject + predicate)...!
- What + adj. + plural nouns / uncountable nouns + (subject + predicate)...!
- How + adj. / adv + (subject + predicate)...!
- How + subject + predicate!
Design Intent: This step focuses on explicit teaching of grammar points. By reading sentences and summarizing patterns, students can clearly understand the structures of object clauses and exclamatory sentences, which is essential for accurate language output later.
Step 4 Practice
1. Do some exercises about Objective Clauses and Exclamatory Statements.
2. Work on 4a: Ask Ss to write sentences on the book. Invite some Ss to write on the blackboard.
3. Work on 4b: Ask Ss to underline the objective clauses in the passage. Then read them aloud. Write their own sentences about Mother's Day and Father's Day using objective clauses.

Teaching Reflection:
In today's lesson, students showed good engagement in the warm - up and role - play activities, which indicated that the topic of festivals was interesting to them. However, when dealing with the grammar points of object clauses, especially the situations where "that" cannot be omitted, some students still had difficulties. More examples and targeted exercises should be provided in future lessons to help them master these points. Additionally, during the production stage, most groups were able to conduct surveys smoothly, but a few students struggled to use complex sentences with object clauses. Next time, I will provide more scaffolding, such as sentence frames, to support these students. Overall, the lesson achieved the basic objectives, but there is still room for improvement in addressing individual differences in grammar learning.
