A few weeks ago, to take my kids to a comics festival, I put on a pair of pants by Ilana Kohn, a New York-based clothing brand. My 10-year-old looked at me and said, “Whoa, Mum, you look great!” The pants were hardly tight, but they had my beloved plastic(松紧带) waist, which made me feel more like myself.
At elementary school, I had to wear a school uniform. I didn’t mind it, but it reflected my educational experience: oh, don’t ask questions, and fit in.
At the public middle school I attended, I could wear anything. For picture day, I planned an outfit: a roomy yellow sweater and knee-length denim(牛仔布的 ) dress, plus matching yellow socks. I looked exactly how I wanted to, and it felt amazing.
In high school, my clothes matched my darker moods, creating a self-imagined cool, stylish look: oiled black work shoes and oversized men’s sweaters. One morning, my mother said to me, “I risked my life to have you. And for what For you to dress like an old man.” Soon, she began directing my choice of clothes.
Luckily, a new era of fashion rose soon after — one that made me look like myself, but in more “womanly” and “flattering”(使人显得更漂亮的) style. In 1996, this meant light dresses and red shoes, making me look thin but feel breathless.
Then when I couldn’t bear the mainstream style, I noticed ads for wide-legged, tailored jmupsuits(连体裤) made by Ilana Kohn. Everyone in the advertisements looked stylish but comfortable and at ease. I could actually see myself in some of the models — short, slightly overweight yet of a full figure. I bought one as the structured yet roomy cuts give me the freedom to move as I please.
Last Saturday, to clear space for minor decoration, my husband and I went through long-forgotten boxes. My middle school photo was in one of them. I looked at it and smiled, knowing I would still wear that yellow sweater and knee-length denim dress today. I used to think that “flattering” was whatever clothing made me look thinnest. Now I realize it is what makes me feel most like myself.

Sustainable packaging, which involves designing, producing, and disposing of packaging materials with minimal environmental impact, is an important concept in the modern world. The goal of sustainable packaging is to reduce pollution, conserve resources, and minimize waste. When selecting sustainable materials for packaging, it is important to consider both short-term cost factors and long-term sustainability goals.
The types of sustainable packaging materials available to consumers and businesses have increased significantly in recent years. Bio-based plastics obtained from corn, sugarcane or other plants offer an attractive solution due to their durability. Jute bags(黄麻纤维袋) are ideal for carrying groceries and other items with case; hessian bags(粗麻布袋) provide superior protection against damp, dust, dirt and pests; while cotton bags are reusable alternatives to plastic shopping bags. All of these options promote product reuse. Additionally, these materials break down naturally when thrown.
Sustainable packaging materials are gaining prominence in the global market as they offer a number of advantages over traditional options. By reducing the amount of non-renewable resources used and removing waste, sustainable packaging solutions can help to reduce environmental degradation(降解). Additionally, these materials provide cost savings for businesses due to their lower production costs and decreased need for transportation or storage space. The use of sustainable packaging materials also offers benefits such as improved product safety and extended shelf life. These materials are designed to protect products from damage during transport, ensuring that consumers receive high quality goods. Moreover, because most sustainability focused packaging is airtight, they can extend the lifespan of items caused by oxygen exposure or damp levels.
In addition to these practical benefits, many companies have adopted sustainable packaging as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives. As more organizations continue to embrace this trend, it is likely that its popularity will surely increase in the future.
While these materials undoubtedly have, their advantages, they also come with some drawbacks that cannot be taken no notice of. Describing sustainable packaging materials as being nothing but beneficial is not wholly accurate.

Which bags are you recommended to choose to fight against injurious insects

A. Supportive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Curious.
Poetry is maybe the most human of all human endeavors, which is thought least likely to be taken over by AI. But according to a recent study, this is not so, as non-experts rate AI poetry higher than poetry written by humans.
The researchers chose 10 famous poets: Samuel Butler, Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare... They then asked ChatGPT 3.5 to write poems in the style of each poet. And they asked the participants, who were not experts, to rate the work on 14 scales, like profundity, rhythm, originality, imagery, beauty, emotion, and overall quality.
What was surprising indeed is that most of these non-experts, when they were not told whether a poem was composed by AI or by a human systematically, ranked the ones that were actually written by AI higher than the ones written by humans.
What does this experiment show exactly The researchers are very clear that these findings were limited to non-experts. The research team’s own explanation has to do with participants’ lack of expertise, concluding that these non-experts preferred the AI poetry because it was less complicated, and more straightforward
This must be part of the story, but it’s not the whole story. Take another deeply human endeavor, wine-tasting, as an example. It was first reported that non-experts are very bad at making the simplest distinctions about wine, but shortly afterwards it was found that experts make the same kind of mistakes and sometimes they in fact made more mistakes.
Plus, it is usually tricky to do experiments on aesthetic(美学) appreciation. This experiment was about the participants’ self-report about their experiences and, as we know from literally thousands of studies, self-reports can be misleading in most contexts. So this experiment was not about the real aesthetic experience of poetry, which is what really maters. It was about what participants thought about their aesthetic experience.
The study is important and creative. But it doesn’t show that promising poets should abandon their passion.
Not yet, anyway.
What is the second paragraph mainly about
The process of the experiment. B. The principle of the experiment.
C. The subject of the experiment. D. The result of the experiment.
Why does the author mention “wine-tasting” in paragraph 5
To compare poetry with wine. B. To show non-experts’ preferences.
C. To prove the research findings. D. To argue against the team’s explanation.
What can be inferred about the non-experts according to the text
They showed good aesthetic appreciation skills.
They had prior experience in evaluating poetic quality.
They rated the poems based on their aesthetic experience.
They were expert in distinguishing AI poetry from human poetry.
What is the author’s attitude towards the future of human poetry
A. Optimistic. B. Indifferent. C. Critical. D. Doubtful.

It was a misty October morning. The abandoned garden behind the old downtown library looked like a hidden realm forgotten by time. As I pushed aside a clump of knee-high green foxtail grass, a faded wooden sign emerged from among the vines. Beneath the sign, half-buried in fallen leaves, a glass jar glowed faintly, stuffed with square-folded letters — red, blue, and yellowed ones — like a bunch of dried colorful flowers.
I squatted down and gently pulled out the top one. On the off-white letter paper, there were scribbly words written in pencil: “March 17th. Huihui ran away from the balcony. It has a black spot on its right ear. If you see it, tell it that its mom misses it very much.” I pulled out another one, a printed note: “Last Wednesday in the third-floor reading room, to the boy in the blue shirt — I didn’t dare to say happy birthday to you. Actually, I’ve noticed you for a long time.”
When I turned around, I saw a girl in a light blue school uniform walking out of the mist. “My name is Lin Yue. This is my secret base,” she said, pointing at the glass jar.
“The first time I came here last autumn, there were only three broken flowerpots,” she added. “The doctor said I was always anxious, so I might as well write down my thoughts. Later, I realized that many people have
things they can’t say out loud.” No sooner had she finished speaking than a strong wind suddenly rushed in through the archway, like an invisible hand tipping over the glass jar — and the letters scrambled to jump out. Some twirled past the wild chrysanthemum bushes, some stuck to the damp stone walls, and the thinnest ones even drifted toward the library’s red brick wall.
Lin Yue let out a cry and lunged forward, her canvas shoes slipping on the wet flagstones. I quickly grabbed her arm. The two of us rushed around in a fluster, chasing the fleeing letters. Her hairpin fell into the bramble thicket, and my cuffs got stained with grass juice. When I caught the pink letter with “I’m sorry” written on it, I noticed a lopsided smiling face drawn on the back. At that moment, I suddenly realized that this was a secret garden collecting people’s innermost thoughts.

Then when I couldn’t bear the mainstream style, I noticed ads for wide-legged, tailored jumpsuits(连体裤) made by Ilana Kohn.

What do the underlined words “disposing of” in the first paragraph probably mean
Getting rid of. B. Making up for.
C. Paying attention to. D. Taking advantage of.
Which bags are you recommended to choose to fight against injurious insects
A. Plastic bags. B. Jute bags. C. Hessian bags. D. Cotton bags.
What does the third paragraph mainly talk about
The benefits of the sustainable packaging materials.
How the sustainable packaging materials get so popular.
The classification of the sustainable packaging materials.
What are corporate social responsibility initiatives about.
What is the author’s attitude towards sustainable packaging
A. Supportive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Curious.

A 29. C 30. A 31. B
根据第一段中“Sustainable packaging, which involves designing, producing, and disposing of packaging materials with minimal environmental impact, is an important concept in the modern world.(可持续包装是现代世界的一个重要概念,它涉及设计、生产以及 disposing of 包装材料时,对环境的影响最小。)” 故选 A。
根据第三段主题句“Sustainable packaging materials are gaining prominence in the global market as they offer a number of advantages over traditional options.(由于可持续包装材料相比传统材料具有诸多优势,它们在全球市场上正日益受到关注)”以及下文内容可知,本段主要讨论的是可持续包装材料的优点。故选A。
根据最后一段“While these materials undoubtedly have their advantages, they also come with some drawbacks that cannot be taken no notice of. Describing sustainable packaging materials as being nothing but beneficial is not wholly accurate.(虽然这些材料无疑有其优点,但它们也有一些不容忽视缺点。说可持续包装材料只有好处并不完全准确)”结合全文内容可知,作者既介绍了可持续包装的优点,也指出了它的一些缺点,并未完全偏向某一立场,而是全面地分析了这一话题。因此,作者对于可持续包装的态度是客观的。故选 B。
D
Poetry is maybe the most human of all human endeavors, which is thought least likely to be taken over by AI. But according to a recent study, this is not so, as non-experts rate AI poetry higher than poetry written by humans.
The researchers chose 10 famous poets: Samuel Butler, Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare... They then asked ChatGPT 3.5 to write poems in the style of each poet. And they asked the participants, who were not experts, to rate the work on 14 scales, like profundity, rhythm, originality, imagery, beauty, emotion, and overall quality.
What was surprising indeed is that most of these non-experts, when they were not told whether a poem was
composed by AI or by a human systematically, ranked the ones that were actually written by AI higher than the ones written by humans.
C. Critical. D. Doubtful.
A 33. D 34. C 35. A

故选 A 项。
根据第五段“This must be part of the story, but it’s not the whole story. Take another deeply human endeavor, wine-tasting, as an example. It was first reported that non-experts are very bad at making the simplest distinctions about wine, but shortly afterwards it was found that experts make the same kind of mistakes and sometimes they in fact made more mistakes.(这一定是部分原因,但并非全部。以另一项极具人类特色的活动——品酒为例。最初有报道称,非专家在对葡萄酒进行最简单的区分时表现很差,但不久之后发现,专家也会犯同样的错误,有时甚至犯更多的错误)”可推知,作者提到品酒是为了反驳研究团队关于“非专家因缺乏专业知识而更偏好 AI 诗歌”的解释,说明专家也可能犯错,不能仅将原因归结于非专家的专业性不足。故选 D 项。
推理判断题。根据第六段中的“This experiment was about the participants’ self-report about their experiences and, as we know from literally thousands of studies, self-reports can be misleading in most contexts. So this experiment was not about the real aesthetic experience of poetry, which is what really maters. It was about what participants thought about their aesthetic experience.(这个实验是关于参与者对自己体验的自我报告,正如我们从成千上万的研究中所知道的,在大多数情况下,自我报告可能会产生误导。所以这个实验并不是关于诗歌真正的审美体验,而这才是真正重要的。它是关于参与者对自己审美体验的看法)”可推断,非专家是根据自己的审美体验来给诗歌评分的,只是这种自我报告可能存在误导性。故选 C 项。
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“The study is important and creative. But it doesn’t show that promising poets should abandon their passion. Not yet, anyway.(这项研究既重要又有创意。但这并不意味着有前途的诗人应该放弃他们的热情。至少现在还不是)”可知,作者认为该研究虽有意义,但并不能说明人类诗歌会被 AI取代,对人类诗歌的未来持乐观态度。故选 A 项。

空前“Technostress can be broken down into a few subcategories including techno-overload, techno-complexity and techno-invasion.(技术压力可以分为几个子类,包括技术超载、技术复杂性和技术入侵。)” 对比选项可知,A 项中的“All of them”可承接上文,指代 “techno-overload, techno-complexity and techno-invasion”,所以 A 选项“所有这些都会对健康产生重大影响。” 故选 A 项。
空前“Some may feel tension in the body, which can lead to headaches and back pain.(有些人可能会感到身体紧张, 这会导致头痛和背痛。)” 空后“That is why dealing with technostress is vital to overall health.(这就是为什么应对技术压力对整体健康至关重要。)”
空后“Acknowledge that it’s a sign of strength and courage to recognize a mental health challenge and take steps to manage it. Experts encourage people struggling with technostress to take steps in the workplace to get
involved in how technology may be used.(承认这是一种力量和勇气的标志,认识到心理健康的挑战,并采取

空前“Taking time each day to get outside is also a great way. By all accounts, there’s almost nothing that aids in stress management so much as a few hours spent in the park, the woods or the mountains.(每天花点时间出去走走也是一个很好的方法。大家都说,几乎没有什么比在公园、树林或山上呆上几个小时更能帮助管理压力了。)”提到了花点时间出去走走,所以 C 项“对大多数人来说,这样的时间是现成的资源。”能承接上文,且 Such time 与空前的 a few hours spent in the park, the woods or the mountains 呼应。故选 C 项。
