Colour words are widely used in both Chinese and English cultures. People use them to show conditions, views and feelings.
Yuebai, qielan and shiqing...These are 16 old Chinese people called different kinds of blue in the old times-light or deep. Yuebai is not white. It’s a kind of blue close to the colour of moonlight.
Old Chinese people generally 17 colours into basic colours and mixed colours. There were five basic colours: blue, red, yellow, white and black. People could mix them together to get mixed colours.
Colours have special meanings in Chinese culture. In old China, colour was a symbol of social 18 . For example, yellow stood for power. It was a colour for the emperors. Officials of different ranks ( 等级) wore clothes of different colours. Purple clothes were simply for officials of the top three ranks while blue was for those who were in the two lowest ranks.
Many beautiful colour names come from famous works of literature and show how old Chinese people understood the beauty of nature. For example, dongfangjibai is a light blue colour. It comes from a work by Su Shi. The colour blue describes the colour of the sky 19 the sun rises.
20 , people in the West also use colour expressions to show their feelings and describe the world. Red is often used to express 21 feelings. They may say they are red hot when they are very angry. Pink is a colour for good health. This probably comes from the 22 that many babies born with a pink colour are healthy. Green is a colour for trees and grass. This might be because when a person is full of envy, his or her body produces too much bile (胆汁), making his or her skin green. The expression “a black sheep of the family” refers to an 24 member of a family or a group if he is always a trouble-maker. Black outs were common during World War II.
A
There are many colours in nature. But do you think that a colour has weight I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe it, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a piece of red paper, and the other with a piece of white paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one
by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so A scientist found that different colours have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength (波长). It reaches our brain through the sense organs
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colours they like, and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like, or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example: if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colours.
What does the underlined word “wrap” mean in Paragraph 2
Which colour is the heaviest
A. White B. Yellow C. Blue D. Red
Why does the scientist say colours have smell
Because people can sense the light from colours.
Because we can smell the colours with our noses.
Because every colour has its sweet smell.
Because every colour gives off light with the same wavelength.
We can infer from the last paragraph that .
the red colour is bad for our health B. people may get nervous in a blue room
C. the blue colour can raise our body temperature D. colours can influence our mood and health
This passage probably comes from a .
A. book review B. fiction novel C. science report D. news report

Recently, a great scientific discovery amazed the world. Chinese scientists have already found a new method to produce water on the Moon, which could change how we think about living on the Moon in
the future! They wrote about their discovery in a science magazine called The Innovation. Their discovery shows that by using lunar soil (月壤), scientists can create a lot of water on the Moon.
In the past, missions to the Moon showed that there might be ice at the Moon’s north and south poles (极). However, there isn’t much water in lunar soil—only a little bit, like 0.0001 percent to 0.02 percent, which makes it hard to find and use water there. So it’s difficult for people to expect to live on the Moon.
The researchers, however, found something exciting, after studying the rocks and soil from the Moon brought back by the Chang’e-5 spacecraft. One of the exciting things they discovered is that lunar soil melts (融化) when it reaches over 1,000℃. When it begins to melt, it produces water vapor (蒸气). They learned that just 100g of lunar soil can give us 5.1g to 7.6g of water. So, if we had one ton of lunar soil, we could get between 51kg and 76kg of water. That’s enough to give drinking water to 50 people for one day!
All in all, this research opens up new possibilities for finding water on the Moon. It’s important for future trips to the Moon and people who might live there someday. As we learn more about how to make water from lunar soil, we get closer to the dream of humans living on the Moon. This discovery could help make that dream come true!
What did Chinese scientists discover that amazed the world
A new way to travel to the moon.
Ice at the Moon’s north and south poles.
A new method to produce water on the Moon.
Rocks and soil on the Moon can be used for building.
Why does the writer mention the earlier research in Paragraph 2
To show that it was totally wrong.
To compare it with the new discovery.
To prove that there is no running water on the Moon.
To explain why people wanted to live on the Moon before.
How much water may scientists get if they have 1,000g of lunar soil
B. C. D.
What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the dream of humans living on the Moon
Hopeful. B.Worried. C.Surprised. D.Doubtful.
What can we infer (推断) from the text A.Humans are the builders of the earth. B.Mistakes often help us find the truth.
C.Scientific discoveries are continually moving forward. D.Future space exploration faces challenges and chances.

Processed food like frozen chips and pizzas is high in salt, sugar and fat. Already, the spread of cheap packaged food has a connection with more and more people who suffer from obesity (肥胖) around the world. Now scientists are trying to find out more proofs of how our industrialized (工业化的) food supply may be affecting (影响) our health.
What does processed food mean?
The researchers came up with a system that groups foods into four categories. The system says highly processed food is mostly made of industrialized ingredients. Instant noodles (方便面) and fried chicken are common examples of highly processed food. But also included are products that can bring benefits to health such as morning cereals (谷类食物),energy bars and some kinds of yogurt.
How does processed food affect people?
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health had 200 people take part in a four﹣week study. They found that people eat about 500 more calories a day when fed mostly processed food than given minimally (最低限度地) processed food.
In another study, researchers in France found people who ate more processed food were more likely to have heart disease. A similar study in Spain also showed eating more processed food might lead to a higher risk of death.
Why does processed food affect people?
When given less processed food, people in the study produced more of a hormone (荷尔蒙) that reduces the appetite (胃口) and less of a hormone that causes hunger. Kevin Hall, one of the researchers who led the study,
also said that the source of nutrients (营养物质) might make a difference. Fiber (纤维) from fruit and vegetables may be better for making people feel full than that added to processed food such as energy bars and yogurt.
What should people do?
Limiting processed food can be difficult, especially for people with limited time and energy. People, however, should try to change the way they eat. Another challenge is the wide range of processed food in the market. It's essential for people to tell which ones might be better or worse as food companies continually advertise their products to mislead customers.

“a black sheep of the family”指家庭或群体中不受欢迎的成员,即总是惹麻烦的人。

Dear Mrs Green,
I am writing to recommend myself to be the assistant of your Colour Therapy Center. I am interested in colour psychology and have read many books about how colours influence moods. I am patient and good at communicating with people, which I think is important for this job. I can also help with organizing activities and providing basic information about colour therapy to clients. I am confident that I can do this job well. I would appreciate it if you could give me a chance.
Yours,
Amy
