I heard many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling (叛逆). I suggested they recall their own teenage years. At that age they would like to be growing away from parents. They preferred to stand on their own feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of going out fighting bravely on their own, most of them are grasping one another’s hands for reassurance (安慰).
They declare (宣称) they want to dress as they like, but they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music, but somehow they all end up gathering around listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in a similar way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (茧) into a larger cocoon.
It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be.
And many of today’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All these create a great barrier (障碍) for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path.
But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t, care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go for it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really matters.

89.Through this passage, the writer wants to tell ________.
A.parents how to control and guide their children

The development of Virtual Reality (VR) technology has changed our lives as it is commonly used in entertainment such as video games while the same time creating digital spaces for people. However, VR technology has its downsides. Without the supervision (管理), the world of virtual reality can prove to be dangerous space that can bring harmful danger to teenagers.
Firstly, VR games and experiences require users to wear VR headsets most of the time, giving rise to health risks. VR headsets blind the users from the world around them, as a result, they could easily get hurt. Toby Robiecelli, a teenager, lost his balance and hurt his knees seriously while playing a shooter game called Superhot VR. Another teenager, Landon Woodward, hurt his right hand while playing the VR game named Gorilla Tag, with one of his fingernails falling off. The VR world sometimes causes teenagers to forget about their physical conditions.
Secondly, the world of VR may also create a sense of detachment (冷漠) in teenagers. The VR world is often more exciting than the real world and it can easily satisfy the social and entertainment needs of teenagers. That’s a welcome change from their stressful school life. However, teenagers may lose their connection with real life — their school life, family or friends.
Lastly, it is harder for parents to check the content in the VR world. Teenagers can easily get in touch with strangers and put themselves in the dangerous situation.
In conclusion, although VR has opened up a new world to children, it has also increased the risks. Before trying new areas of VR apps, we’d better take a step back and consider the possible result of this technology.
90.Why does the writer mention Toby Robiecelli and Landon Woodward
A.To prove that VR games are very exciting.
B.To show the health risks of using VR headsets.
C.To prove that VR headsets are of poor quality.
D.To show that teenagers are good at playing VR games.
91.Why can the VR world easily satisfy the social and entertainment needs of teenagers
A.By providing more care for physical conditions.
B.By making teenagers wear comfortable headsets.
C.By offering experiences different from their school life.
D.By attracting teenagers to communicate with other strangers.
92.What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage
A.To ask people to stop using VR technology.
B.To recommend a new kind of popular VR game.
C.To provide a detailed guide on how to use VR headsets.
D.To introduce the possible danger caused by VR technology.

Bebeto could hear his parents discussing his sister Ana’s birthday. It was just two days away. Birthdays were always a lot of fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of the toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew.
This birthday would be different, though. Ana was older now, and he’d seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Zulma’s Presents, a neighbourhood store just down the road from their house.
How he longed for her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he fell asleep.
After a quick breakfast the following morning, he placed a tin can and a piece of string in a burlap sack (麻布袋). Then he tied the sack to the handlebars of his bicycle and headed out of the town.
Shortly after, he rode past a group of his friends playing soccer. “Come on over, Bebeto,” they called. “You’re just in time!”
“Sorry, guys. Not today,” he answered.
After a long ride, he reached the mango grove (果园).
There were already two other boys there, standing among some smaller trees and picking fruit from the lower branches. Bebeto set to work right away. Nearly all of the trees held ripe (熟的) mangoes, but they were well beyond reach. He used his pocketknife to cut a long piece of bamboo growing at the edge of the grove. Then he took the tin can from the sack, tied it to one end of the bamboo stick, and walked over to the base of a mature mango tree. He stayed there, poking (戳) the tin can high up into the tree. After a while, his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore (酸痛的). He kept at it, though, and by late afternoon his sack was nearly full.
Bebeto reached her store just as Zulma was closing—in time to exchange some of his mangoes for the doll.
The following morning, Ana walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table.
“Good morning, birthday girl,” said her mother, pouring her a glass of juice. “I hear your brother has a special surprise for you today.”
Just then, Bebeto came in, carrying a large bowl of mangoes. He placed it on the table before Ana.
“Happy birthday, Sis,” he said.
“My favourite fruit—thank you, Bebeto!” said Ana. She reached for the bowl and picked up the top mango. Then her eyes widened, and her smile beamed even brighter. There, nestled among the fruit, was the new doll.
93.Why was Bebeto planning to buy Ana a doll as a present
A.He liked the doll and wanted to play with it too.
B.He was tired of making homemade gifts for his sister.
C.He saw Ana was attracted to the doll and wanted to make her happy.
D.He didn’t want Ana to be different from other girls in the neighbourhood.
94.What did Bebeto do with the tin can while trying to pick the mangoes
A.He used the tin can to cut the ripe mangoes in the tree.
B.He threw the tin can at the mangoes to make them fall.
C.He placed the tin can on the ground to collect the mangoes.
D.He tied the tin can to a stick and poked the mangoes with it.
95.What can we infer from the story
A.In general, Ana preferred fruits to dolls.
B.Bebeto was a caring brother in the family.
C.The family couldn’t afford store-bought gifts.
D.Bebeto was often absent from the boys’ soccer games.

C.The Best-selling Fruit D.The Mango-Filled Surprise
97.Which of the following actions is the most similar to Bebeto’s way of getting a gift for his sister
A.A kid collects old books from friends and gives them to the school library.
B.A young person helps grandparents clean the house and gets an old family item.
C.A student walks his neighbour’s dog on weekends to buy a new pen for himself.
D.A teenager makes cakes to sell at a market, and then buys a comic book for a friend.
E
A study published just last month, in April 2025, showed that 164 children from ages 7—10 put more trust in the search engines (引擎) all the time than in asking a person—and that trust increases as children get older.
Interestingly, when kids were asked whether a person or a search engine would be better at predicting the future, they showed less trust in general, but still preferred searching for answers online.
Why Many answered that the search engine has a lot of information. Still, they didn’t consider what they’re missing: not only the chance to discuss with a real person, but more basically, the deepening of their relationships.
This isn’t just about how long kids can stay focused. Pioneering research from Dr. Rachel Romeo’s team at Harvard shows that the quality of child-adult conversation directly shapes brain development, especially in areas responsible for focus, critical thinking, and emotion management. Their functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) (功能性磁共振成像) studies show that kids who have more interactive (互动的) conversations show stronger brain connections between language and decision-making areas. These conversations do more than build brains, though. They’re key to strengthening (加强) the connections between children and their parents.
Consider the difference between 1. sitting quietly without saying a word; 2. asking, “When are you going to finish your homework ”; and 3. asking, “Why do you think your friend is having so much trouble ” In the first two situations, kids aren’t given the chance to think through their ideas, nor do they get the chance to spend time learning how we or others think. That’s not the way to build their skill of seeing things from others’ viewpoints and their feelings of connectedness. In an increasingly separated world, that level of connectedness is key. It’s a quality we need to get back.
A 2024 article by Dubinsky and Hamid found that children learn best when allowed to grapple with challenging ideas in an active learning environment. These environments give them more control and also encourage their curiosity and drive. Yet today’s “just search online” culture steals this key cognitive (认知的) exercise from them and takes away that more active, positive effort.
98.Why does the writer compare three situations in Paragraph 5
A.To stress the importance of silence in child development.
B.To criticize parents for asking too many questions about homework.
C.To argue that children should avoid interacting with adults altogether.
D.To show how conversations influence children’s ability to understand others.
99.What does the word “grapple” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean
A.Use search engines. B.Avoid hard tasks.
C.Try hard to solve a problem. D.Accept information.
100.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A.FMRI is unnecessary for studying brain development.
B.Kids should be encouraged to have more interactive talks with adults.
C.Modern technology has little negative influence on children’s learning.
D.Using search engines is a better way for children to learn new information.
101.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To tell us how search engines work effectively.
B.To tell us the role of fMRI in studying brain development.
C.To tell us modern technology has little positive influence on learning.
D.To tell us to reduce the dependence on search engines and talk to others more.
三、信息还原
It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents. 102 They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they won’t give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children’s trust and they always forget how they themselves felt when young. 103 It is one of their ways to show they have grown up and that they can face any difficult situations. However, adults worry more easily and most of them plan things ahead.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble. They just feel cut off from the adults world, and have not yet been accepted into their world. 104 By doing so, they will feel pleased or even proud even if their parents do not like their music, entertainment, clothes or their way of speech.
Sometimes young people are so proud of themselves that they do not want their parents to say yes to what they do. 105 It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when they were completely under their parents’ control.
106 Parents should treat their children as independent individuals. And young people need to communicate with their parents from time to time to narrow the gap between them. If young people have a high sense of responsibility, their parents are certainly glad to see them do what they like to.
A.A good parent-child relationship is based on mutual (相互的) respect.
B.All they want is to be left alone and do what they like.
C.Parents shouldn’t be too serious and strict with their children.
D.For example, young people like to act without much thinking.
E.That’s why young people want to make a new culture of their own.
F.Young people will intentionally do something to make their parents angry.
G.They say that their parents don’t understand them.

“I don’t like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry,” said Wang Tao, a middle school student. Do you have the same problem Perhaps your parents had the same problem when they were your age long ago. Why does it seem that some parents are not so friendly in their children’s eyes
One of the biggest things is when someone becomes a parent, he or she likes worrying They worry about everything about you, from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get, etc. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.
So how can you make things easier on yourself It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Get them to know your friends. Call them if you stay somewhere else later than usual. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Take responsibility for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you.
Most of all, try to think about why your parents do this or do that. They are still practicing being parents and need help you can give them. Someday, when you become a parent, they may be able to help you how to get on with your children.
