The Normandy landings
The Normandy landings were a seaborne invasion of northern France that took place on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 by American, British and Canadian forces. The largest seaborne invasion in history was code-named “Operation Overlord”, but it is more often referred to as “D-Day”, It enabled the liberation of France from German occupation, laying the foundations for the defeat of the German armies on the Western Front.
The passage describes the background, process and historical significance of the Normandy landings and expresses the memory of the fallen soldiers.

Allied troops gathered in large numbers for “Operation Overlord”, which was set for 6 June.
After hard fighting by the soldiers especially the cruelest battle at Omaha Beach, the Normandy Landings finally succeeded.
Thousands of Alied soldiers landedin northern France. Thousandsmore landed in Normandy toreach the Normandy beaches.
Paris was liberated by the Alliesand the Germans were removedfrom north-west France.
The Allies and the Sovietmilitary were about to attack Germany when they met.
Survivors of the D-Day landingsmeet every year.
