A boy lost in the wilderness was saved by a kangaroo. That’s the story floating around after Simon Kruger, a 7-year-old boy, was rescued from Australia’s Deep Creek Conservation Park.
According to Australia’s 7 News, the saga (传奇故事) began when Simon wandered off after the family ate a picnic lunch. Apparently the lost boy drifted away to pick flowers for his mom. Instead, he got hopelessly lost — and without adequate warm clothing to stay out overnight in the forest.
A police search, including helicopters, followed. But Simon wasn’t found for 24 hours — even though he was ultimately discovered only about half a kilometer from the family’s campsite. His father Etienne Kruger thinks his son was disoriented when the rain and wind swept in after he got lost.
However it happened, Simon wasn’t found for almost a full 24 hours. The overnight weather was cold and wet, dropping to a low of around 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
So how did the lost boy survive the cold, wet night The family said that Simon’s flowers for his mom attracted a kangaroo. His dad explained, “A kangaroo came closer to him and ate the flowers from him, and the kangaroo fell asleep next to him. I think God sent a kangaroo to keep him warm.”
4. The purpose of the writer is to ______.

In the first half of the twentieth century, Karl von Frisch, a scientist who studied animal behavior, changed our impression of honey bees by discovering the “waggle (摇摆) dance”, which may not be considered as a language, but a form of communication. It was one of our first understandings that bees do something like what we call “thinking”.
Clint Perry, a scientist at Queen Mary University of London, has spent much time studying how bees think. He gave bees a choice between landing on a place above a black bar (横木) or a place below it. If they landed above the bar, they would find a delicious sugary drink. If they chose the place below the black bar, they found a terrible drink. He made the test harder or easier by moving the landing places farther from or closer to the black bar. But bees also had the choice of avoiding the task if they weren’t sure they would succeed. Perry found that bees avoided the test when it was difficult and gave it a try when it was easy.
Perry pointed out that we can’t know for sure from tests like this whether bees are actually judging by their own knowledge or simply quitting the task because of an unhappy connection with the terrible drink.
Scientists still do not know how bees manage to do so much with their tiny brains. No one is suggesting that bees are as smart as humans, at least not when it comes to things like memory and language. But learning more about how bees’ brains work could help us learn more about how our own brains deal with information.
We may also have to rethink how we view the rest of the insect world. There are a lot of small creatures (生物) flying around in the garden. Who knows what those tiny minds might be able to do
8. Why does the author mention Karl von Frisch in the first paragraph
A. To introduce a famous scientist. B. To change the impression of bees.
C. To show early study of bees’ thinking. D. To stress the importance of bees’ study.
9. How did Clint Perry make the task difficult
A. By setting more choices. B. By giving challenging orders.
C. By making landing places farther. D. By reducing the sweet level of the drinks.
10. What is Clint Perry’s attitude to the result of the research
A. Supportive. B. Unconcerned. C. Doubtful. D. Uncertain.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Insects’ thinking ability will improve. B. The number of small insects will increase.
C. Study on insects’ brains has a long way to go. D. Insects’ life habits will be a focus of research.
