教材分析
本课是北师大版《初中英语》九年级第四单元，话题是“太空”。本课是本单元的第一课，在承接Get Ready部分有关“space”话题的基础上，本课主要介绍太空中的生活。
第一课时是阅读课，侧重对课文的理解。本片文章共五段。第一段为引入段，第二、三、四、五段分别对宇航员的生活通过不同方面做介绍。学生通过skimming的阅读策略获取文章所涉及的领域，再通过阅读，逐步搜索细节信息。在阅读过程中，讲解生词并运用推断等技巧完成课后Exercise5的习题。
第二课时是语法课，侧重对so that和so…that…的理解与应用。在复习文章内容的基础上，开展语法教学，培养学生在语境中理解so that和so…that…通过Exercise 8 理解并辨别这两个结构，完成Exercise 9,正确应用这两个结构。从而突破这节课的重难点。
学情分析
授课学校位于北京郊区的平原农村校，学生的英语水平参差不齐，大多数学生整体英语能力一般，但是对英语学习有一定的坚持。对于教材中要求掌握的基本词汇和句型能够通过学习理解并运用。学生阅读能力更是两极分化，大部分同学可以通过阅读查找细节信息，而少部分同学在针对问问题回答上认为较困难。
本节课课型为阅读课，针对这种情况，在设计上，考虑学生的层次差距，设计题型具有有一定的阶梯性，教师在做题时会做一定的引导，让学困生在阅读中重新找回自信，优等生有机会发挥。作为初三的学生，恰当的应用阅读策略去阅读文章的能力非常重要，所以本节课的内容设计上注重此点。
教学目标
在第一课时学习结束时，学生能够：
1、认读以下单词：space shuttle, lift off, land, manned/unmanned spacecraft, astronaut, planet, international space station, float away, gravity, tie.
2、通过略读，选出文章所涉及的内容。
3、运用细读、推断等阅读策略，找出宇航员在太空中是如何吃喝、睡觉、锻炼、放松相关细节信息并解释其原因。
4、了解航天员的生活与我们正常生活是不同的。
在第二课时学习结束时，学生能够：
1、发现、归纳so…that…和so that的语意。
2、通过习题辨别so…that…和so that的语意功能。
4、通过对一位宇航员的采访，正确恰当的使用so…that…和so that.
