【原文】Victor Green, an American architect, revolutionized shopping in the 1950s by creating the type of shopping center that we now call a shopping mall. Green’s aim was to provide a pleasant, quiet and spacious shopping environment with large car parks, which usually meant building in suburbs. He also wanted people to be able to shop in all kinds of weather. He insisted on using building designs that he knew people would feel comfortable with, but placed them in landscaped streets that were entirely enclosed and often covered with a curved glass roof. This was done to imitate some of the older shopping areas of city centers. But while these housed only small specialty shops, Green’s shopping malls were on a much grander scale. Access to the whole shopping mall was gained by using the main doors, which separated the shopping streets from the parking areas outside. As there was no need to keep out bad weather, shops no longer needed windows and doors and people could wander freely from shop to shop. In many cities shopping malls now contain much more than just shops. Cinemas, restaurants and other forms of entertainment are also growing in popularity.

But now there is a way to track your vehicle without spending a coin. A California based startup company was able to make this a reality. They created a tiny device that works with your smartphone. Install the free TrackR app on your smartphone, connect the app to your device and you are ready to go. Simply attach TrackR to whatever you want to keep track on. The entire process of setting it up only takes 5 minutes or less. You can attach it to your keys, briefcase, wallet, your latest tech devices, and anything else you don’t want to lose. Then use the TrackR app to locate your missing items in seconds. Forget expensive GPS systems or tracking services. Nobody wants to pay expensive monthly fees. 【原文】Tony: Hello, Professor Jones.
Professor Jones: Hello, Tony. So what shall we work on today
Tony: Well, the problem is that this writing assignment isn’t coming up right. What I thought I was writing on was to talk about what a particular sports means to me, one I take part in。
Professor Jones: What sport did you choose
Tony: I decided to write about cross country skiing.
Professor Jones: What are you going to say about skiing
Tony: That’s the problem. I thought I would write about how peaceful it is to be out in the country.
Professor Jones: So why is that a problem
Tony: As I started describing how quiet it is to be out in the woods, I keep mentioning how much effort it takes to keep going. Cross country skiing isn’t as easy as some people think. It takes a lot of energy, but that’s not part of my paper. So I guess I should leave it out. But now I don’t know how to explain the feeling of peacefulness without explaining how hard you have to work for it. It all fits together. It’s not like just sitting down somewhere and watching the clouds rolling by. That’s different.
Professor Jones: Then you’ll have to include that in your point. The peacefulness of cross country skiing is the kind you earn by effort. Why leave that out Part of a point you knew beforehand, but part you discovered, as he wrote. That’s common, right
Tony: Yeah, I guess so.

Pushing past her limits
At 11:31 am on July 18, I reached the summit of Mount Muztagh Ata in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Standing at 7,546 meters at the age of 18, I earned the title of National Mountaineering Athlete. As I stood there, tears unexpectedly streamed down my face.
Our team consisted of 17 people, including seven coaches. We started the climb at 3 am, making our way up in freezing temperatures. With the shortage of oxygen, every step was a struggle-my head throbbed (阵痛) with pain and my stomach churned (翻腾). I felt 21 I was on the verge of fainting. 22 a lack of appetite, I forced myself to eat something. My feet were swollen, and I could hardly feel 23 .
After nearly three hours of struggle, the sun began to rise from behind the mountain, casting a warm glow on the snow. For a moment, I felt 24 (renew). I tried to take out my snow goggles, but I was too weak, and my coach had to help me. Feeling exhausted, I told my coach I wanted to slow down, but he noticed my nose was freezing and my lips were stiff. He warned me that if I didn’t keep moving, the cold 25 cause me to get sick, making it impossible to reach the summit. I immediately regained my focus and pushed myself to move 26 (fast).
I was the last team member 27 (reach) the top, and though my teammates cheered me on, I was too tired to respond. The view was beautiful, but I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even appreciate it. My mind went numb, and every step during the final stretch seemed like a battle. But finally, I reached the peak. I sat down on a rock, dizzy and crying.
Crying at that moment wasn’t just about the physical pain. It was a release of all the emotions I 28 (bottle up). It was a mix of exhaustion, awe for nature, and a sense of connection with the mountain. I was also proud of myself for making it to the top.
When I returned to the busy city, surrounded by the noise of cars and crowds, I found myself missing the quiet world of the mountains. I missed the cold, damp sleeping bags, the faint nausea from the lack of food, and the stars and moon 29 (hang) over us in the early hours. It was only in that stillness 30 I truly appreciated the beauty of the mountains.

Lakshmi spends hours every day digging up large yams (山药) that grow under the soil. Some yams weigh 5 kg and are almost as tall as she is. Lakshmi says this work is very hard.
Lakshmi lives in Kerala, a state in southern India. She is part of an all-women group called Noorang. The women in Noorang belong to one of Kerala’s oldest tribes (部落). They are trying to save yams. These yams have grown on their land for many years.
But yams are no longer a main diet among tribal communities in Kerala due to their rapidly changing lifestyle. Young people have many other foods to eat, like rice and wheat. They do not think yams are special anymore.
Bad weather also hurts yam harvests. In the past, floods and landslides caused many yams to die. Recently, there was a sharp decline in lands dedicated to yam production in Kerala, with many of these being changed to the more rubber cultivation instead.
“The women grow yams to feed their families and to keep these rare yams from disappearing,” says Lakshmi. “We believe yams can cure some illnesses,” says Shantha, another member of Noorang. “Many mothers here think yams are good for the stomach.”
Since 2022, the Noorang group has brought back 180 kinds of wild yams. They have fifteen kinds of wild yams, three kinds of elephant yams, eight kinds of Colocasias, seven kinds of sweet potatoes, and one kind of Chinese potato. “Our goal is to save rare yams and grow more,” says Sarasu, a member of Noorang.

Xiaomi used this supply chain to its advantage. Its cars contain batteries from BYD and CATL. It was able to quickly start production by taking over a factory from Beijing Auto Group. Construction workers in Beijing are working around the clock on a second factory.
All this manufacturing capacity helps Chinese electric vehicle firms move from development to production in far less time than traditional automakers in China, enabling them to bring new models to market quickly and focus on making software that they can continually update, said Stephen W. Dyer, head of Asia Automotive at AlixPartners, a consultancy.
Intense (激烈的) competition at home has pushed many Chinese carmakers to flood the global auto market with affordable electric cars. Last year, BYD sold more than four million new cars worldwide.
It is just a matter of time before Xiaomi cars are on the road outside China, said Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association.
Xiaomi’s popularity as a maker of all kinds of consumer electronics gave it a deep well of knowledge about Chinese consumer preferences (偏好). On the first day SU7s were delivered, buyers could go to Xiaomi’s app store and get accessories (配件) to trick out the cars, like analog dashboard clocks and a row of physical switches that attach to a touch screen panel.
“The strength of the brand puts Xiaomi ahead of a lot of their competitors,” said Tu Le, a managing director of the consultancy Sino Auto Insights. “That’s what it takes to sell cars globally, because it’s not just a consumer product, it’s an emotional product.”
63.What advantage did Xiaomi have in starting car production quickly
A.It had its own factory. B.It took over a factory from Beijing Auto Group.
C.It built a new factory in Beijing. D.It partnered with BYD and CATL.
64.What can we learn from Stephen W. Dyer’s words
A.Chinese EV firms focus only on software.
B.Chinese EV produce cars slower than traditional automakers.
C.Chinese EV bring new models to market faster.
D.Chinese EV are not competitive globally.
65.What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about
A.SU7 had many buyers on delivery day.
B.Consumers prefer Xiaomi’s products.
C.Xiaomi’s app sells car accessories.
D.Xiaomi’s electronics experience meets needs.
66.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To introduce Xiaomi’s entry into the car market.

Section C
Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
Imagine swimming in a lake on a hot summer day. The water is quite warm, but the wind is strong and the moment you leave the water you feel chilly and get “goosebumps (鸡皮疙瘩) ”. So you change clothes and move inside to warm up. You make a nice cup of tea, get under a blanket and turn on the radio. Suddenly, you hear a song from a long time ago, one that your grandmother often sang to you when you were a child. 67 Why do such seemingly unrelated events lead to the same bodily reaction
Goosebumps are a physiological phenomenon we got from our animal ancestors. They are tiny elevations of the skin that look like the skin of children or geese after the feathers have been pulled off. 68
Goosebumps are caused by a contraction (收缩) of muscles that are attached to each hair. Each contracting muscle creates a shallow depression (凹陷) on the skin surface. As a result, the surrounding area stands out. 69 In animals with a thick coat of hair this rising of the hair expands the layer of air. The thicker the layer of hair, the more heat is retained. In people this reaction is useless because we do not have a coat of hair on our bodies.
In addition to cold, the hair will also stand up in many animals when they feel threatened. 70 This will probably make the attacker back off. People also tend to experience goosebumps during emotional situations, such as walking down the aisle during their wedding, listening to their nation’s anthem, or even just watching horror movies. Quite often a person may get goosebumps many years after a significant event, just by thinking about the emotions they were experiencing at that time.
The reason for all these responses is the subconscious release of adrenaline (肾上腺素). It is often released when we feel cold or afraid, but also if we are under stress and feel strong emotions. Other signs of adrenaline release include sweaty palms, an increase in blood pressure, a racing heart or the feeling of “butterflies” in the stomach.
A.Therefore we could also call them “turkeybumps” or “duckbumps.”
B.Again, you feel a chill on your back and again, you get goosebumps.
C.The contraction also causes the hair to stand up whenever the body feels cold.
D.When a cat is attacked by a dog, for example, the elevated hair makes the cat appear bigger.
E.Adrenaline not only causes the contraction of skin muscles but also influences many other bodily reactions.
F.It is something we inherited from our distant ancestors, though we don’t seem to benefit from the reaction much.
【答案】67.B 68.A 69.C 70.D

How to Develop Healthy Digital Habits
In today’s digital world, teenagers spend increasing amounts of time on screens, which can negatively impact their physical and mental health. Developing healthy digital habits is essential for maintaining balance in life.
The first step is to set clear boundaries for screen time. Experts recommend taking regular breaks using the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Turning off notifications during study time helps maintain concentration. Establishing “screen-free” zones, especially in bedrooms, can significantly improve sleep quality.
Another important aspect is being mindful of online content. Following educational or inspirational accounts rather than those promoting unrealistic standards can boost mental well-being. Students should also schedule offline activities like sports, reading, or face-to-face socializing to maintain a healthy balance between virtual and real-world interactions.
Parents and schools play a crucial role in modeling and teaching digital wellness. Open discussions about responsible technology use, cyberbullying prevention, and critical thinking about online information should be encouraged. Teachers can incorporate digital literacy into their curriculum to help students navigate the online world safely.
By carrying out these strategies, teenagers can enjoy technology’s benefits while avoiding its risks. Healthy digital habits formed during school years will serve students well throughout their lives in our increasingly connected world.

In recent years, keeping pets has become increasingly popular among teenagers. Some students in your school believe that having pets at home can bring many benefits to teenagers while others express concerns. What’s your opinion on this issue Do you think high schoolers should keep pets at home Write two paragraphs to voice your opinion. Each paragraph should include one reason and the corresponding supporting details.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文
In my opinion, high schoolers can benefit from keeping pets at home. First, pets help improve emotional well-being. Spending time with animals like dogs or cats can reduce stress and loneliness, especially during busy study periods. For example, some students in our school share that their pet dogs listen patiently when they talk about worries, making them feel relaxed and supported. This kind of companionship teaches teenagers to find comfort in relationships and manage their emotions better.
However, there are also reasons to be cautious. Keeping pets needs time and effort. If a student spends too much time feeding, walking, or cleaning up for their pet, they might neglect homework or sleep. A classmate once mentioned that her cat’s sudden illness made her stay up late to care for it, which affected her grades the next day.

B.To compare Chinese and traditional automakers.
C.To discuss the future of electric vehicles.
D.To analyze the global car market trends.
IV. Summary Writing (10分)
71.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in NO MORE THAN 60 WORDS. Use your own words as far as possible.
