The invitation says guests are supposed to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45. But there are always a few who like to arrive early so we’ll expect the first people at 7:15. The food will be served at around 8:10. The hosts have emailed me the menu. The activities will last for two hours. We were expecting a band, but this has been cancelled. Felicia Grimmenhag of Sweden doesn’t let anything stand in her way — even a life changing injury. After surviving a serious car accident, Felicia had to adjust to (适应) life in a wheelchair. But it didn’t stop her from pursuing her dream of becoming a champion horseback rider.
Felicia was 17 when she was hit by a car while riding her motorbike. Despite being legally declared dead for 15 minutes, she surprisingly pulled through, though not without lasting scars (伤疤). When she woke up three days later, she discovered both of her legs were gone forever.
While this new reality would be a tough pill for anyone to swallow, Felicia focused all her energy on getting back on the horse! She had ridden as a little girl and decided in the hospital to try again. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to, but about 10 weeks after the accident, she was riding once again! “Horses have meant a lot to me, both mentally and physically,” she said. “When I sit on the horse, I don’t feel like Felicia in a wheelchair — I feel like Felicia the equestrian (骑手).”
Felicia has since competed in events around the world, proving she doesn’t need legs to win. This year, the 25-year-old won a silver medal at the Swedish Championships, and next year, she hopes to compete at the Tokyo Paralympics! “What I’ve learned from all of this is that you should dare to challenge yourself, and remember that it’s only you who sets your own limits,” she said.

In Spain, the siesta (午睡) isn’t just a nap; it’s a cultural institution, deeply woven into the fabric of daily life. From its historical roots to its modern-day practice, the siesta holds a special place in Spanish society. Dating back to ancient civilizations, this midday break has evolved over centuries, shaped by factors like climate, agriculture, and societal norms
Ancient civilizations like the Romans and Greeks are believed to have embraced midday naps to escape the heat and replenish (补充) their energy. Over time, this practice became rooted in Mediterranean cultures, including Spain.Factors like Spain’s warm climate and agrarian (农耕的) lifestyle played a big role in shaping the siesta tradition. Farmers needed a break from toiling (劳作) under the sun, and the midday heat made resting a necessity.
There were plentiful references to the siesta in Spanish literature, art, and folklore. From paintings depicting people dozing under shady trees to stories of characters enjoying a midday rest, the siesta has been celebrated and romanticized throughout history.
The siesta isn’t just a nap; it’s a chance to unwind and connect with friends and family. It’s a time to enjoy a leisurely meal, take a stroll, or simply relax under the warm sun. The siesta reflects Spain’s laid-back approach to life and its emphasis on work-life balance. It’s a reminder to prioritize (优先考虑) rest and relaxation among the hustle and bustle (忙碌) of modern life. In a culture that values family, community, and enjoying the simple pleasures, the siesta is more than just a tradition — it’s a reflection of deeper cultural values.
As the world speeds up, the traditional siesta faces some hurdles. With the rise of 24/7 industries and flexible work arrangements, the traditional siesta clashes (冲突) with modern work schedules. Many businesses now operate around the clock, leaving little room for midday breaks. Meanwhile, in today’s competitive market, businesses are under pressure to maximize productivity and efficiency. Some see the siesta as a luxury they can’t afford, deciding to keep operations running non-stop to stay ahead.
As Spain evolves, so do its cultural practices. Younger generations may view the siesta differently from their ancestors, prioritizing different aspects of work-life balance.
61.According to the passage, what brought the tradition of siesta in Spain into existence

根据文章第二段“Ancient civilizations like the Romans and Greeks are believed to have embraced midday naps to escape the heat and replenish (补充) their energy. Over time, this practice became rooted in Mediterranean cultures, including Spain. Factors like Spain’s warm climate and agrarian (农耕的) lifestyle played a big role in shaping the siesta tradition. (古罗马人和希腊人等古代文明为了躲避炎热和补充能量,据说会进行午睡。随着时间的推移,这种做法在地中海文化中扎下了根,包括西班牙。西班牙温暖的气候和农耕生活方式等因素在塑造午睡传统方面发挥了重要作用)”可知,是炎热的气候和艰苦的农耕生活带来了西班牙午睡的传统。故选D项。
62.词句猜测题。根据画线词后文“and connect with friends and family. It’s a time to enjoy a leisurely meal, take a stroll, or simply relax under the warm sun.(和朋友们、家人们交流。这是享受悠闲用餐、散步或在温暖的阳光下简单放松的时候)”可知,午睡不仅仅是睡觉,还是和朋友家人交流以及放松的时候,由此可知画线词意思是“放松,使精力恢复”。D选项“Refresh.(使精力恢复)”与划线词为同义词。故选D项。
63.推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“As the world speeds up, the traditional siesta faces some hurdles. 64.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段“In Spain, the siesta (午睡) isn’t just a nap; it’s a cultural institution, deeply woven into the fabric of daily life. From its historical roots to its modern-day practice, the siesta holds a special place in Spanish society.(在西班牙,午睡不仅仅是小憩;它是一种文化制度,深深融入日常生活的结构中。从它的历史根源到现代实践,午睡在西班牙社会中占有特殊地位)”可知,文章主要介绍了西班牙午睡的文化重要性和演变。A选项“The cultural importance and evolution of the siesta in Spain.( 西班牙午睡习俗的文化意义及其演变)”概括文章主要内容。故选A项。
根据文章第四段“The siesta reflects Spain’s laid-back approach to life and its emphasis on work-life balance. It’s a reminder to prioritize (优先考虑) rest and relaxation among the hustle and bustle (忙碌) of modern life.(午睡反映了西班牙人悠闲的生活方式和对工作生活平衡的重视。它是现代生活忙碌中的一个提醒,提醒我们要优先考虑休息和放松)”可知,作者认为午睡是反映生活平衡的有价值的文化习俗。故选D项。

Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle (挣扎,奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges (挑战) of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.
When people are young, meeting and overcoming (克服) challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.
Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.
66.From the story we know that the butterfly can’t fly because ________.
A.the man feels sorry for it B.the man helps it come out
C.it gets out by itself D.it tries to challenge itself
67.Dennis’s example shows that successful people should ________.
A.take up business early B.sell clothes from door to door
C.overcome the difficulties D.become the leaders of tomorrow
68.The meaning of the underlined word “mature” in the passage is “________”.
A.take up B.get up C.wake up D.grow up
69.What is the writer trying to do in the passage
A.Encourage young people to face challenges.
B.Suggest how to become a successful businessman.
C.Explain what will happen if a person fails the exam.
D.Describe where a butterfly comes from.
70.What is the best title for this passage
A.Successful People Have a Sense of Achievement
B.Young People Must Develop Their Energy Actively
C.Countries Should Continue to Become Successful
D.Challenges of Life Bring Out the Best in Young People
【答案】66.B 67.C 68.D 69.A 70.D
根据第一段中“He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle (挣扎,奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly!(他剪开了蛹,蝴蝶很容易就出来了。令人惊讶的是,蝴蝶不会飞。如果蝴蝶不挣扎着离开蛹,它就不能飞!)”可知,蝴蝶不能飞是因为男人帮助它从蛹里出来,没有经历挣扎的过程。故选B。
67.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.(另一个成功的人是丹尼斯。他父亲在他二十岁的时候就去世了。父亲的死迫使他迅速成熟起来。他不得不养活一个九口之家。他接受挑战并克服了它们。今天,他的兄弟姐妹们都过着成功的生活)”可知,Dennis接受了挑战并克服了它们,由此可推测,Dennis的例子说明成功人士应该要克服困难。故选C。
68.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people.(他父亲在他二十岁的时候就去世了。父亲的死迫使他迅速mature起来。他不得不养活一个九口之家)”可知,父亲去世后,他需要承担起养家的责任,所以这里mature意思是“成长,成熟”,与“grow up”意思相近。故选D。
69.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges.(所以一些家长和老师积极鼓励年轻人面对挑战)”以及全文内容可知,作者写这篇文章是为了鼓励年轻人面对挑战。故选A。
因此,最佳标题是“Challenges of Life Bring Out the Best in Young People(生活中的挑战激发年轻人的潜能)”。

The idea of spending a year in a hot, beautiful country is an attractive option for any 20-year-old university student, and numbers of students now take a year out to study or work abroad. Two years ago, I joined them.
My reality was long days teaching in Spain for less than one euro an hour. Despite my best efforts, I barely spoke Spanish and made just one friend, I couldn’t wait for it to end and after nine long months, I boarded the plane home crying tears of happiness.
However, it has taken me a while to realize that I wouldn’t have it any other way. I wouldn't do it all over again, but I certainly wouldn’t change it. It was tough, but it was totally worthy.
I had to grow up and learn how to rely on myself. I learned that things don't always go the way you expect or want. I had time to think about what I was doing with my life and what I wanted to get out of my degree.
For many others, too, a terrible year abroad can turn into a positive, character - building experience. I'm not saying that if you have a great year then you don’t Learn anything, I’m still jealous of all the adventures and travelling my friends talk about: But a disastrous year abroad gave me the boost I needed to stop taking the opportunities I have for granted.
I spent a long time feeling like I’d wasted what was supposed to be one of the best years of my life, until I realized that was only because I was comparing it with other people’s experiences. That year was the best thing that could have: happened to me. So if you’ve recently started your year abroad, remember to take it as it comes - appreciate the experience you’re having, without comparing it with everyone else’s.

72.How do you understand the underlined part in Paragraph 3 (no more than 10 words)
73.Why did the author consider her life in Spain worthy (no more than 10 words)
74.What made the author think she had wasted a year in Spain (no more than 10 words)
75.Would you like to take a year out to work abroad Why (no more than 20 words)

The author doesn't regret her work experience in Spain. /She would make the same decision if she had choices.
Because she learned some serious/valuable/important life lessons there. /Because she had a positive character - building experience. /Because she gained something important there.
Comparing her life abroad with others' experiences.
75.Yes, I do. Working abroad may be difficult, but we can gain something very important from such an experience.

Dear Tom,
I’m truly concerned to hear that you've been feeling tired and putting on weight since starting high school. You have asked for my advice on a healthy lifestyle, and I will try to make some suggestions.
Nothing is more precious than keeping healthy. To begin with, it's better to avoid fast food — try eating more fruits and vegetables instead. Moreover, eating in a healthy way and exercising regularly are the key to keeping healthy. How about going for a walk or playing basketball for 30 minutes every day Plus, take regular exercise and have enough sleep, and you will feel relaxed and energetic. It’s a good idea if you try to go to bed earlier instead of staying up late to scroll through the phone.
I’ll be more than glad if you find my suggestions useful. I hope you will consider my suggestions and feel better soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

A.Encourage young people to face challenges.
B.Suggest how to become a successful businessman.
C.Explain what will happen if a person fails the exam.
D.Describe where a butterfly comes from.
