Back in 2001, Pen Hadow and I travelled to the North Pole. One morning we'd just taken down our tent and started skiing. Pen was in front, and I was following him. Suddenly I got a strange feeling that something was behind us. I stopped, looked back and saw a polar bear walking towards us.
Pen and I planned to stay where we were, try to look big, and frighten it away. Pen had a shotgun that we'd bought in Russia. That was his job. My job was to look big and to take off my skis, hold the skis in the air, make lots of noise, and frighten away the bear. Pen raised the gun and fired into the air. However, it jammed and failed to work.
The bear was walking towards us. Pen tried again, but again it didn't work. Then he walked towards the bear, and I thought, “Wow, Pen's gone completely mad. He's going to get eaten. What should I do ”
I thought maybe I could throw a ski at it or stab(刺) it with a ski pole or something. Suddenly, the bear stopped. Pen stopped. Bang! The gun went off in the air. There was a big cloud of smoke that I thought surprised Pen and me more than it surprised the bear. The animal looked up, looked down, turned around and walked off. Pen turned round and said, “Quick, get the camera and take a photograph,” and that was when suddenly I felt really nervous. I couldn't even undo the zip on our bag.
That was the morning of the second day of this journey. We were out there for two months—fifty-nine days, but we never saw another bear that close.

(2025安师大附属外国语学校月考)Copenhagen is a beautiful city of Denmark that attracts a lot of tourists, especially during the summer. Though tourism is great for the economy, it is also bad for the environment. Now tourists who take part in green activities like picking up rubbish, using public transport, or biking around the city are rewarded(回报) with food and activities. This project is called CopenPay, whose purpose is to help reduce the environmental costs of tourism.
The project was introduced by Copenhagen's official tourism organization to get tourists to act in an eco-friendlier way according to the Wonderful Copenhagen website. Though it is trust-based, some places may ask you to show a photo of you doing a green activity or a train ticket.
Though the largest environmental cost is the transportation to Copenhagen, especially if you fly or drive, the tourist board's communications chief(旅游局通信主管) Rikke Holm Petersen said, “One of the things we can change is getting people to act in an eco-friendlier way at the destination.”
There are now 24 members in the programme, reported Forbes, including museums, restaurants, and urban experiences for tourists to take part in. While there are several places offering free ice cream or coffee for taking public transport, there are other experiences that are related to Danish culture. Visitors to the National Gallery who bring plastic waste can take part in a workshop to turn the rubbish into a piece of art.
Tourists can help care for the gardens at the Blixen Museum for free admission. There are free tours at the Cisternerne underground art hall if you walk or bike to the place. You can also get a free lunch for volunteering at an urban farm.
While none of these activities will make a huge influence on the environment, it'll change people's thoughts and that may be the most important thing tourists can bring home from their vacation.
8. How can you get free food as a visitor to Copenhagen
A. By sharing a car. B. By taking a bus to travel.
C. By helping old people. D. By taking care of wild animals.
9. What does the author want to show by mentioning Rikke Holm Petersen
A. The difficulty of the project. B. The success in the project.
C. The reason for the project. D. The guess at the project.
10. What do we know about eco-friendly actions in Copenhagen
A. They are praised on websites.
B. They take place mostly in museums.
C. They get rewarded in different ways.
D. They want to show Danish culture.
11. What is the importance of CopenPay according to the text
A. Changing the local environment greatly.
B. Making tourists think highly of Copenhagen.
C. Helping get more money from local tourism.
D. Developing people's environmental understanding.
D
On Tuesday, the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, a domestic non-profit civil rescue team, confirmed that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists who had got into difficulties.
According to the official news, it was on Monday that the rescue team received a telephone call from 24 travellers, who were trapped in a river valley, with a storm on the way and one of the female travellers being badly injured.
The team responded immediately. However, when they helped the travellers, two team members got trapped by the rising river water. The next day, they were confirmed dead.
The two heroes who gave their own lives to save others are being mourned by all.
Who can rescue the rescuers The question aroused a heated discussion among people. Most of them think we would rather such “heroic deeds” were not required. However, that depends on people being more sensible. In the past several years, there have been many cases in which travellers, ignoring the signs saying certain areas are dangerous and off-limits, still have kept on “exploring” unpaved and unmarked regions and ended up needing to be rescued. By doing so, they put not only their own lives at risk but also the lives of those who go to their aid.
In this case, although the travellers may have been in an authorized area, they ignored the warnings of an approaching typhoon. It was extremely reckless(鲁莽的) of them to travel into the wild on such a day, as the local weather forecast had warned people against the impending typhoon. Two rescuers have lost their lives because of the thoughtlessness of others.
Although the majority of travellers behave properly, some attempt challenging tasks that are obviously beyond their abilities.
The law has already made it clear that if a traveller or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. The regulations need strengthening to deter travellers from putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk.
12. What happened to a woman traveller
A. She lost her way. B. She was trapped on the mountain.
C. She died in the storm. D. She was seriously hurt.
13. What is the writer's attitude towards some tourists
A. Critical. B. Sympathetic.
C. Understanding. D. Admiring.
14. What does the underlined word “deter” in the last paragraph mean
A. Protect. B. Stop. C. Excuse. D. Separate.
15. What can be a suitable title for this passage
A. The Blue Sky Rescue B. Who Can Rescue the Rescuers
C. Who Should Bear the Costs D. A Deadly Typhoon
第二节 阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Do you have a place you've always wanted to visit If the answer is yes, have you ever considered taking a trip alone there just for a few days
16 Although seeing the world on their own has always been a dream in their hearts since childhood, most people have repeatedly been told that the outside world is dangerous. The thought of going on a trip alone excites and terrifies them at the same time. Few end up stepping out of their comfort zone and going on meaningful adventures.
It is normal to have some trouble travelling alone. 17 For example, being alone on the road, you might have to ask strangers to take your photo wherever you go. If you join a tour halfway, you may be asked why you don't have friends or family around. 18
First, travelling alone gives you a good opportunity to do everything you wish to do without worrying about others' needs and wants. If you want, you can read on a bench beside a river for the whole afternoon without being disturbed(打扰). You are free to walk around on different streets. 19 You can also remove that dull daily routine(常规) that always makes you feel tired.
If you make good use of it, travelling alone can also be a wonderful journey of self-discovery, as you'll finally have time to think about your life.
20 All you need to do is pack your bags, take your passport, gather up your courage and go somewhere. Go out and enjoy being alone, explore the unknown, make some friends, read a book, and get to know more about yourself and the world.
A. Travelling by yourself is also quite easy.
B. You can go to shopping malls and explore the city.
C. For many people, travelling alone can be frightening.
D. There are also some unpleasant moments one might run into.
E. It is important to take some time off and think about the methods.
F. But anyhow, I still suggest that you travel alone at least once in your life.
G. Travelling alone helps us figure out what we really want to fight for in this big world.
