I was 21 when I broke the world record as the youngest woman to ski solo (独自地) to the South Pole. On the hardest day, snow piled up to my knees, the wind howled like a wild beast, and the cold pierced through every layer of my clothes. My sledge (雪橇) felt heavier with each step, my muscles burning, and my breath shallow in the thin air. But I refused to stop.
Growing up in Norway, I was easily exposed to the wilderness. Stories of Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, filled me with wonder. And that was when my desire to explore nature was born. I spent hours skiing in the mountains, camping under stars, and starting campfires with frozen fingers.
At 14, I made a brave decision — to ski across Greenland. Most people doubted me. I was just under 5 feet tall and looked more like a child than an explorer. But Lars Ebbesen, a famous polar guide, saw my determination and trained me. He taught me how to fix broken equipment with frozen hands and read the sky for signs of danger. “You must be strong and smart,” be told me over and over.
To prove myself, I then went on a training trip to Finnmark, where darkness ruled and temperatures fell to -35℃. I learned to set up tents with frozen hands and sleep through winds that shook the earth. Finally I set off with Lars and it took us 28 days to cross Greenland.
Encouraged, at 15, I decided my next goal was Antarctica. My father helped me make plans. My mother, though cautious, eventually supported me. When I finally began my 1,130 km journey to the South Pole last November, I was 21. Some days, I cried behind my glasses, struggling through snowstorms, dragging my aching body forward. But I never gave up. Fifty-four days later, I reached the South Pole. I stood in silence, tears freezing on my cheeks. I sent Lars a chick emoji — at last, the “polar egg” hatched.
24. What inspired the author to explore nature
A. Her desire to break a record. B. Her love for South Pole.
C. Her mother’s encouragement. D. Her admiration for Roald.
25. How did Lars help the author
A. By teaching her survival skills. B. By financing her exploration.
C. By training her to ski skillfully. D. By convincing her parents to support her.
26. What can we learn from paragraph 4 about the author
A. She gathered some hands-on experience.
B. She went to Finnmark accompanied by a guide.
C. She was praised for her courage by many people.
D. She met many challenges when crossing Greenland.
27. Which of the following can best describe the author
A. Outgoing and caring. B. Ambitious and sensitive.
C. Humorous and considerate. D. Adventurous and determined.
C
A team of researchers from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed an innovative green pesticide formulation (农药配方) that promises to strengthen control of harmful insects while prioritizing safety for both crops and the environment. “This new pesticide represents a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pesticides,” said Prof. Wu Zhengyan, who led the research team. The findings of this study were published in ACS Nano.
Traditional pesticides often face several challenges, including uneven application on plant leaves, tendency to being washed away by rain, and rapid decomposition (分解) under sunlight. Additionally, remaining chemicals from these formulations can pose environmental risks. Therefore, in this study, the team engineered a new pesticide formulation to enhance adhesion to leaves, resist sunlight decomposition, and provide a gradual release of the active ingredient for sustained effectiveness.
The success of this new formulation lies in its unique structure. The carbon dots combined with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) increase the pesticide’s capacity to hold more abamectin (阿维菌素) — approximately 1.7 to 2.1 times more than conventional formulations. This allows for greater effectiveness while using less active ingredient. When the pesticide contacts the weakly acidic environment on plant leaves, the calcium carbonate breaks down, facilitating a quicker release of the pesticide and enabling easier tracking through the lights released by the carbon dots. This “controlled release” mechanism ensures that the pesticide remains active, even in challenging conditions such as UV light or rain.
In tests conducted on the diamondback moth (小菜蛾), a common agricultural threat, the new formulation demonstrated excellent pest control both indoors and outdoors. Importantly, it also minimizes environmental pared to traditional pesticides, this new formulation showed reduced poisonousness to non-target animals.
Furthermore, once the pesticide has released its active ingredient, the remaining materials decompose into harmless substances like calcium ions (Ca2+), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon dots, significantly lowering the risk of pollution.
28. How is the benefit of the new pesticide stressed in Paragraph 1
A. By offering statistics. B. By giving examples.
C. By defining a concept. D. By quoting an expert.
29. What does the underlined word “adhesion” mean in Paragraph 2
A. Sensitivity. B. Response. C. Reference. D. Stickiness.
30. What makes the new pesticide different from traditional one
A. Its distinctive structure. B. Its lower production cost.
C. Its unique tracking method. D. Its faster decomposition rate.
31. Why is the new pesticide environmentally friendly
A. It restores the ecological balance. B. Its by-products are clean and safe.
C. It avoids harming unrelated species. D. Its remaining materials are reusable.
D
The problem of robocalls (自动语言电话) has gotten so bad that many people now refuse to pick up calls from numbers they don't know. By next year, half of the calls we receive will be scams(欺诈).We are finally waking up to the seriousness of the problem by supporting and developing a group of tools, apps and approaches intended to prevent scammers from getting through. Unfortunately, It’s too little, too late. By the time these "solutions" become widely available, scammers will have moved into cleverer means. In the near future, it's not just going to be number you see on your screen that will be in doubt. Soon you will also question whether the voice you're hearing is actually real.
That's because there are a number of powerful voice processing and automation technologies that are about to become widely available for anyone to use. At this year's I/O Conference, a company showed a new voice technology able to produce such a persuasive human-sounding voice that it was able to speak to a receptionist and book a reservation without being found.
These developments are likely to make our current problems with robocalls much worse. The reason why robocalls are a headache has less to do with amount than accurateness. A decade of data violation of personal information has led to a solution where scammers can easily learn your mother's name, and far more. Armed with this knowledge, they're able to carry out individually targeted campaigns to cheat people. This means, for example, that a scammer could call you from what looks to be a familiar number and talk to you using a voice that sounds exactly like your bank teller's, tricking you into "confirming" your address, mother's name, and card number. Scammers follow money, so companies will be the worst hit. A lot of business is still done over the phone, and much of it is based on trust and existing relationships. Voice processing technologies may weaken that gradually.
We need to deal with the insecure nature of our telecom networks. Phone consumers need to work together to find ways of determining and communicating what is real. That might mean either developing a uniform way to mark videos and images, showing when and who they were made by, or abandoning phone calls altogether and moving towards data-based communications-using apps like FaceTime or WhatsApp, which can confirm your identity.
Reliability is hard to earn but easy to lose, and the problem is only going harder from now on.
32. How does the author feel about the solutions to the problem of robocalls
A. Panicked. B. Confused. C. Embarrassed. D. Disappointed.
33. Taking advantage of the new technologies, scammers can____________
A. aim at victims accurately B. damage databases easily
C. start campaigns rapidly D. spread information widely
34. What does the passage want to say______________
A. Honesty is the best quality. B. Technologies can be double-edged.
C. There are more solutions than problems. D. Reliability holds the key to development.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. Where the Problem of Robocalls Is Rooted
B. Who is to Blame for the Problem of Robocalls
C. Why Robocalls Are About to Get More Dangerous
D. How Robocalls Are Affecting the World of Technology

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语,续写两段使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a warm afternoon, we first saw “Big Red” when my father, mother, and I (Frank) stopped as usual to have a look and do a bit of dreaming at Eaton’s department store window on our way home.
Amongst beautiful toys lay a stunning red satin (缎子) dress. Mother’s eyes fixed on it. “My goodness,” she whispered, “Look at that”, She then glanced down at her own heavy grey wool coat, worn every winter for as long as I could remember. Mother, constantly doing chores like laundry, tending pigs, and gardening, always wore practical housedresses and an apron (围裙). She owned just one or two“special” dresses for significant events and made most of our comfortable, simple clothes.
“What a silly dress”, she said to herself, shaking her head. “Who on earth would want such a big thing ” Yet, as we walked away, she turned back for one last look. “My goodness! You’d think they’d display something useful.”
As Mother’s Day approached, the red dress was soon forgotten. Mother, intensely practical, never spent money on non-essentials (必需品). “There are things we need more than this,” she’d insist. Choosing her gift was difficult. When asked, she requested only useful items like tea towels or a new basin.
During our last trip to town before Mother’s Day, with us driving up Main Street, Mother suddenly shouted: “Look”, She pointed excitedly as father drove past Eaton’s. “That big red dress is gone”, she exclaimed in disbelief. Shaking her head, she questioned, “Who’d be fool enough to buy such a dress ” But I was certain I was aware of a distinct trace of longing (一丝渴望) beneath her words. The absence of the dress seemed to highlight its beauty rather than erase it from memory.
Paragraph 1: On the morning of Mother’s Day, Mother got a large box that read “Eaton’s Finest Basin” on its wrapping paper.
Paragraph 2: “Oh Frank…” She choked up and couldn’t say a word, tears welling up in her eyes.

读后续写:
Paragraph 1:
On the morning of Mother’s Day, Mother got a large box that read “Eaton’s Finest Basin” on its wrapping paper. The instant she saw the box, she froze as if rooted to the ground. Mother thought it was a basin, but it turned out to be the “Big Red” dress when she opened the box. Her prior confusion had given way to excitement for gaining the dress. At that moment, I tiptoed to her and said loudly, “Happy Mother’s Day”, sneaking a smile at my father. Mother was nearly jumping in the air because of my surprising wish. “We noticed your longing for that dress, so we bought it as a gift for you.” I added in a sincere tone.
Paragraph 2:
“Oh Frank…” She choked up and couldn’t say a word, tears welling up in her eyes. I looked at her, with tears sparkling in my eyes to see my mother so emotional. “Mom, why not try it on ” Hearing my words, she grasped the dress and tried it on, looking at me expectantly. Within minutes, I saw my mom wearing the red dress and walking in front of me, patting her shoulder and stretching the sleeves. “Wow, you are so beautiful” My father stood there, as if glued on the ground. Mother’s dress was waving in the breeze and brightening under the sunshine. “Tough as life is, I have had the most precious thing— your love.” Mom’s words went like a warm stream.
