One of the reasons I became a teacher was how much I loved the reading and writing process, and how excited I was to help young children develop as readers and writers. One day, I discovered a work of Vivian Paley, who developed a storytelling curriculum for young children, which involves writing down the contents of students’ drawings and having their classmates act out these stories. I was immediately drawn to Paley's focus on drama.
One morning, as my students gathered in our classroom for our writing lesson, I told them that they could draw anything they'd like, imaginary or real. They discussed with one another what they liked to draw and some shared their ideas loud, which helped inspire those who weren't ready with their own ideas. For the next half hour or so, I observed that even my most hesitant and unwilling students were drawing with a sense of concentration and purpose.
Later, we sat in a circle and I explained that we would act out some of their stories. The writer would choose classmates to be the characters in the story, and I would tell the story. Then a student stood up to announce which characters she’d need. I watched as one student played a rabbit, another played a fairy, and another played a rainbow cloud. When the play was over, the actors and the “director” bowed, and the class clapped for them. The next “director” jumped to her feet, shouting, “My story is the next!”
After I taught in this way, my students began to write down their own stories, though I always provided aid in the writing process when they needed. The goal of these lessons is not to turn my students into fluent writers in kindergarten but to provide them with the chance to become writers, to see themselves as storytellers, and to experience the magical feeling when their ideas come to life.
( ) 14. What does Paley's curriculum mainly ask students to do
A. Tell stories. B. Draw pictures.
C. Create plays. D. Practise acting.
( ) 15. What encouraged the inactive students to start to draw
A. Other students' ideas. B. The author's instruction.
C. The inspiration from books. D. Their experience of painting.
( ) 16. How did the students eventually feel in that morning's class
A. Confused. B. Concerned. C. Relaxed. D. Interested.
( ) 17. Why does the author plan such special lessons
A. To help students write more fluently.
B. To get students more drawing inspiration.
C. To set students the goal of becoming writers.
D. To make students know the joy of composition.

Teenage life is quite dramatic, but that doesn't mean you cannot enjoy your life in these years. Even with your daily troubles, your life is not very hard if you know how to deal with them.
I know exactly how you feel. Teenage life can be hard. You are not a kid anymore because you are smart enough to consider your surroundings. However, you are still not an adult because there are still lots of experiences that you need to have and lessons that you need to learn from these experiences. Above all, the hormonal (荷尔蒙的) imbalance in your body can really mess you up. I have been there. I was in it for six years exploring what life is about!
As a teenager, I had a major problem completing my routine tasks on time. And at that time, all that I needed to do was to finish my homework, study for the upcoming tests and clean my room. Now, I have much more things to do: cooking, cleaning and working while keeping a balance between all my relationships related to work, family and friends. That is really a lot of work. So, I will just give you one golden tip, “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.”
Life becomes much easier now because I finish all my work on time and I have enough time to let my hair down. Half the problems of teenagers appear because we hate doing things. We'd rather go and have fun than sit down and take on our responsibilities. That is why you have so much trouble in your life; your parents won't let you go out with friends because you haven't cleaned your room or your teacher is always criticising you because you haven't finished your homework.
( ) 18. What plays a key role in making teenage life hard according to the writer
A. The physical changes. B. The lack of life experience.
C. The poor sense of balance. D. The unfamiliar surroundings.
( ) 19. How did the writer feel about his teenager life
A. It was boring. B. It was simple. C. It was enjoyable. D. It was difficult.
( ) 20. The author tries to persuade readers mainly by means of .
A. quoting famous sayings by famous people
B. setting his own experiences as example
C. listing all of his troubles in his childhood
D. showing the numerous assignments for children
( ) 21. What does the writer advise teenagers to do
A. Finish their homework. B. Go and have fun.
C. Take on responsibilities . D. Make more friends.
D
Over the past decade or two, there have been some interesting changes in the features of the teenagers. The psychologist Jean Twenge of San Diego State University notes that teens are growing up more slowly in many aspects, compared with teens of the same age only 20 years ago. A typical 17 or 18-year-old teen in the US, for example, is now less likely to have tried alcohol or acquired a driver's license. A 13 or 14-year-old teen is less likely to have a job.
Twenge points out a number of reasons why growing up is slowing down. There's little doubt that technology and the Internet have played a major role, meaning more interaction with peers (同龄人) happens online and in the home, where experimentation and trouble are perhaps less likely. For this reason, she calls this latest group of young people the “iGen” generation and has written a book all about their characteristics. But she also points out that some of these trends were already beginning before the online culture of the 21st century, and so the Internet can't be totally blamed.
Her explanation is that teens behave differently greatly depending on how antagonistic and unforgiving their local environment feels to them. In tougher times in history, teens were forced to take a “fast life strategy”, growing up faster, giving birth earlier and focusing on basic needs. Now life in the West is generally more forgiving, and families are wealthier — at least on average — so it's possible for teens to take a “slow life strategy”, delaying the change to more adult behaviours.
“At times and places where people live longer, health services are better, and education takes longer to finish. People usually make the choice to have fewer children and bring them up more carefully,” Twenge explains.
So, what will this mean for our ideas about teenagers if these trends continue It might suggest that the 20th-century idea of a teenage rebelling (叛逆) without a cause is becoming no longer useful.
( ) 22. What may less likely happen to today's teens according to the text
A. Shopping online. B. Having a job. C. Having parties. D. Making e-pals.
( ) 23. What does the underlined word “antagonistic” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Unfamiliar. B. Unrealistic. C. Unusual. D. Unfriendly.
( ) 24. What has mainly resulted in teenagers' growing up more slowly in Twenge's opinion
A. Cosy living environment. B. The Internet.
C. Heavier study burden. D. More interaction with peers.
( ) 25. What does the author think of the 20th-century idea about teenage rebels
A. Practical. B. Ideal. C. Informal. D. Meaningless.
