Many people do not get enough B vitamins every day. Vegans, who eat only vegetables and no meat, sometimes do not get enough B12 because most of it comes from meat. Because of this, vegans may feel tired and not healthy. Pregnant (怀孕的) women also need more B vitamins. They need more B9 because it is very vital for their growing baby.

67-year-old Chinese agronomist (农学家) Hu Yuefang comes from Hunan province. He has worked in Madagascar (马达加斯加岛) for 18 years. He first arrived there in 2007. He used the same way to plant local rice and hybrid rice and then compared the two. The results showed that the hybrid rice seeds could produce two to three times more rice! The local farmers were so excited!
“Good seeds aren’t enough. Farmers must know how to grow them,” Hu said. He taught them carefully. When farmers nearby had problems, he rode over on his motorbike. If they were far away, he helped them by phone.
Hu has missed many important family moments. He sees his family only once a year. He wasn’t there when his mother passed away, and he wasn’t there when his grandson was born. When Sara entered the schoolroom the next morning, everybody looked at her with wide, interested eyes.
“She has silk stockings on!” said Jessie. “And what little feet! I never saw such little feet.” “Oh”, Lavinia, unkindly, “That is the way her slippers (拖鞋) are made. I don’t think she is pretty at all. Her eyes are such a strange color.” “She isn’t pretty as other pretty people are,” said Jessie, looking at the other girls in the room. “But she makes you want to look at her again. She has greatly long eyelashes (睫毛), but her eyes are almost green.”
“Young ladies,” Miss Minchin said, “I shall expect you all to be very agreeable to Miss Crewe; she has just come to us from a great distance—in fact, from India. As soon as lessons are over, you can know each other.”
“Sara”, said Miss Minchin, “Come here to me. My impression is that your father wished you to learn French.” “I, I have never really learned French, but, but”, she began trying shyly to make herself clear. “That is enough,” Miss Minchin said. “If you have not learned, you must begin at once. The French master, Monsieur Dufarge, will be here in a few minutes.”
Monsieur Dufarge arrived. His eyes fell upon Sara. “Is this a new student for me, Madame ” he said to Miss Minchin.
“Her father really wants her to begin the language. But I am afraid she isn’t ready for it. She does not seem to wish to learn,” said Miss Minchin.
Little Sara rose in her seat. She began to explain quite simply in pretty and smooth French. She had not learned French exactly—not out of books—but her father and other people had always spoken it to her, and she had read it and written it as she had read and written English.
When she began to speak, Miss Minchin started quite surprisingly and sat looking at her over her eyeglasses, almost angrily, until she had finished.
“Ah, Madame,” Monsieur Dufarge said, “There is not much I can teach her. She has not learned French; she is French. Her pronunciation is pure.”
“You should have told me,” exclaimed Miss Minchin, turning to Sara.
“I, I tried,” said Sara. “I, I suppose I did not begin right.”
Miss Minchin knew she had tried, and that it had been her mistake that she was not allowed to explain. When she saw that Lavinia and Jessie were laughing at their French grammars, she felt very angry. “Silence, young ladies!” she said seriously, knocking upon the desk. “Silence at once!”

The hot South African sun shone down on the sandy beach. Panzer sat by the sea with other baby penguins, waiting for their parents to bring food.
Panzer was bored just sitting around. He watched the gulls flying high in the sky. Their wings (翅膀) were wide and strong, and they flew so freely. Panzer looked at his own wings. They were small and not as nice as the gulls’. He tried running and flapping (拍打) his wings, hoping to fly, but he never got off the ground. Other penguins laughed at him, so he stopped.
Still, Panzer loved watching birds that could fly. One day, he saw an ibis. She had long legs, wide wings, and a long neck. To Panzer, she looked very beautiful. Panzer wished he could talk to her, but she never seemed to notice him.
Later, Panzer talked with his parents about the ibis. They said, “The ibis can fly in the air, but she can’t swim like you will. She can only eat food on land or in shallow (浅的) water. You will soon go deep into the ocean!” Panzer thought about this and realized he was made to swim, not to fly.
Slowly, Panzer’s baby feathers (羽毛) began to fall out. New, thick feathers came in and they kept him warm in the water. One evening, his parents came to him. “You are grown-up,” they said. Then they told him where to look for food. And they told him to be careful of dangerous animals in the deep sea.
The next morning, Panzer followed his parents to the sea. At first, the big waves (海浪) made him a little scared. But soon, he found he could swim easily underwater! Buck lived in Mr Miller’s big house in the sunny Santa Clara valley. There were large gardens and fields of fruit trees around the house, and a river nearby. In a big place like this, of course, there were many dogs. There were house dogs and farm dogs, but they were not important. Buck was chief dog; he was born here, and this was his place. He was four years old and weighed sixty kilos. He went swimming with Mr Miller’s sons and walking with his daughters. He carried the grandchildren on his back, and he sat at Mr Miller’s feet in front of the fire in winter.
But this was 1897, and Buck did not know that men and dogs were hurrying to north-west Canada to look for gold. And he did not know that Manuel, one of Mr Miller’s gardeners, needed money for his large family.
One day, when Mr Miller was out, Manuel and Buck left the garden together. It was just an evening walk, Buck thought. No one saw them go, and only one man saw them arrive at the railway station. This man talked to Manuel and gave him some money. Then he tied a piece of rope around Buck’s neck. Buck growled and was surprised when the rope was pulled hard around his neck. He jumped at the man. The man caught him and suddenly Buck was on his back with his tongue out of his mouth. For a few moments he was unable to move, and it was easy for the two men to put him into the train.
When Buck woke up, the train was still moving. The man was sitting and watching him, but Buck was too quick for him and he bit the man’s hand hard. Then the rope was pulled again and Buck had to let go.
That evening, the man took Buck to the back room of a bar in San Francisco. The barman looked at the man’s hand and trousers covered in blood.
“How much are they paying you for this ” he asked.
“I only get fifty dollars.”
“And the man who stole him — how much did he get ” asked the barman.
“A hundred. He wouldn’t take less.”
“That makes a hundred and fifty. It’s a good price for a dog like him. Here, help me to get him into this.”
They took off Buck’s rope and pushed him into a wooden box. He spent the night in the box in the back room of the bar. His neck still ached with pain from the rope, and he could not understand what it all meant. What did they want with him, these strange men And where was Mr Miller
