教学内容
教学重点: 获取和梳理大熊猫“希望”的成长过程,野生大熊猫面临的问题和获得的帮助等信息,理解语篇的结构化知识;训练浏览、扫读等阅读技巧以及查找、对比、分析、综合等思维方式; 赏析语篇中的词汇和句型表达,运用相关语言准确描述大熊猫“希望”的成长过程、野生大熊猫面临的问题和获得的帮助等信息。 教学难点:赏析语篇中的词汇和句型表达。
教学过程
Step 1. Lead-in Ask Ss to watch a picture of a little animal and describe it. Ask Ss to guess what kind of animal it is. Step 2. Pre-reading Ask Ss what they know about giant pandas. Introduce the new words like “giant pandas, bamboo, bamboo shoots, live on ...”. Introduce some famous giant panda stars to Ss. Let Ss know there are Sichuan Pandas and Qinling Pandas. Tell the story of Qizai. Ask Ss to think about why people take pandas like Qizai to the research centre. Tell them what research centres do. Step 3. While-reading Task 1 Skim for the main idea and the structure. Ask Ss to read the title, the first and last paragraph and the first sentence of each paragraph and match each paragraph with the correct main idea. Remind Ss to pay attention to the first two sentences in Para 3. They form a connecting link between the preceding and the following. Ask Ss to choose the correct structure of the article and conclude the main idea of each part. Give Ss a tip that knowing the structure can help us find information quickly. Task 2 Scan for specific information. Ask Ss to scan Paras 1&2, find out the key time points mentioned. And then find out what Xiwang was like at different ages. Make Ss understand the story of Xiwang is written in the order of time. Ask Ss to retell the growth of Xiwang with the help of the chart. Ask Ss to scan Para 3 to find out what problems pandas face in the wild and complete the chart. Then ask them to think about other problems pandas may have. Ask Ss to scan Para 4 to find out what actions people take and complete the chart. Emphasize that in the face of problems, people never give up. Where there is a will, there is a way. And of course, there is also hope. Task 3 Read and think for further understanding Ask Ss to read about the story about Xiwang more carefully and think about what we know about Xiwang. Ask Ss to find sentences which show panda keepers’ love. Give Ss a tip that positive words usually express the feelings of love. Ask Ss to read Para 4 again and try to understand the sentence “the number of giant pandas is increasing.” Help Ss choose the right chart and understand “efforts, increase”. Task 4 Read and think further. Ask Ss to read the whole article again, and think about what “our” refers to in the sentence “But they still need our protection.”, and how we can understand the title —“Xiwang in safe hands”. Step 4. After-reading Ask Ss to discuss “Should we keep animals in the zoo ” in groups and give positive or negative reasons, as many as possible. Ask Ss to do Exercise C in the book. Remind them to read it through and think about parts of speech first and then check the answer. Ask Ss to do some self-assessment about this class. Step 5. Homework Ask Ss to choose one endangered animal and make a leaflet to let people know what they are like, what problems they have and what we can do for them.
