学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________
When I was in primary school, I was fat and didn’t like doing exercise. I felt tired and bored when doing any kind of exercise. I hardly did any exercise. I often felt sick and was absent from school, so I could hardly catch up with other students. And my poor health made it even more difficult for me to keep on exercising. The cycle repeated itself. My parents were really worried about me.
One day, after having supper, my father came and asked me to take a walk with him in the park. My father insisted that for people with very poor health, it was difficult to take up running and other sports at the beginning, but we could start with walking and increase endurance little by little. With his encouragement, I agreed and we went out together. It was hard for me to walk for half an hour and I wanted to give up, but my father encouraged me to keep on walking.
After that, I was often asked to walk with my parents. To my surprise, I could walk for an hour in the fourth month. ________I loved taking exercise gradually. Now I am a perfect runner in my middle school. I have lost all the fat and I am not weak any more. I take part in the school sports meeting every year.
My parents once told me that during all my life, I might face something difficult, but I shouldn’t be afraid of them. What I should do is to be brave when I face them. I finally understand that after I overcome what I am afraid of, I may find how great I am.

国家喊我们控制体重了!
In China, weight control has changed from a personal struggle to a government-supported effort. At a recent news conference (会议), Lei Haichao, head of the National Health Commission, announced plans to set up more weight management clinics at medical facilities. This got much attention online. Social media platforms have strongly responded (回应) to this news.
China has a growing obesity problem. Over half of adults are overweight or obese, and if not controlled, the rate could reach 70.5% by 2030, bringing a huge economic burden (经济负担). To solve this, in 2024, the government launched a campaign to help with weight control in three years.
At weight management clinics, like the one at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, experts from different fields work together. They use methods like traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture (针灸), to help patients. However, there are risks, so proper oversight is needed.
While weight control clinics are new, sports and healthy eating have long been widely included in China’s increasingly healthy society—thanks to strong government advocacy (倡导). So besides clinics, outdoor activities and healthy eating are also needed. The government has built many stadiums and fitness trails. More people are doing outdoor sports like hiking. Families are spending more time outdoors, and sports equipment sells well.
The government also issued (发行) eating guidelines for obese adults. People are more calorie-conscious, choosing healthy food like salads and low-sugar drinks. Entrepreneurs (企业家) are making traditional food healthier. With the government’s efforts, China is taking various steps to deal with the obesity problem.

①We have already known that if we sit for a long time, we’ll get fatter and we may get heart problems. New studies have shown that it is bad for our mental health, too.
②A study of 937 Brazilian adults during the COVID-19 found that about one-third of them sat around for more than 10 hours per day. It is reported that people who sat for too long might get depressed.
③Another study about children showed that each extra hour of sitting time at ages 12, 14 and 16 brought about higher depression grades by age 18. Eighteen-year-olds who sat most often had depression grades 28% higher than those who were more outgoing.
④Scientists are not sure yet about the connection between too much sitting and depression. But according to Mats Hallgren, “Sitting for too long can slow blood flow in the body.”
⑤The good news is that it’s easy to deal with. Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said that all kinds of movements might help. The key is just to move often.

We’re sitting too much and it’s dangerous. Most Americans spend more than seven hours sitting every day.
And we know that sitting too much is not a good thing. 13 Luckily, there are simple changes you can make during the day—anywhere, even at the workplace, to improve your health.
14 This makes you start your mornings actively and be ready to begin the work. If you take the bus, get off one stop earlier to take some light exercise before 8 a.m.
15 When you’re busy with work, it’s easy to forget the time. Set a timer to help you to get up and take a walk around the office. You can use this time to fill up your water bottle or go to the bathroom.
16 Go to your co-workers’ office to talk about questions face to face. You’d better not just send an e-mail every time you have a question. This gives you a good excuse to move.
Use your lunch break to move around outside. 17 When possible, walk outside and enjoy the nice weather. Fresh air can make you keep a clear mind.
A.Ask questions and talk about questions face to face.
B.The more you sit, the weaker your body will be.
C.Many Americans today walk during their lunch break.
D.Get up and walk around the office every 60~90 minutes.
E.Park a few blocks away from the office and walk to work.
More and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities around the world now. Some climb the highest mountains and others travel to different parts of the world. I would think bungee jumping (蹦极) to be a good example of such an activity.
Bungee jumping is not a new activity. It appeared (出现) hundreds of years ago. The men tie (绑) long vines (藤) from plants around their ankles (踝关节). They spend days building tall towers out of vines and logs (原木). Then they jump off them. In their old story, a woman tried bungee jumping first. She decided to run away from her rude husband (丈夫). So she climbed up a tall tree and tied some vines around her feet. Her husband also climbed up the tree and tried to catch her. The woman jumped and the man followed. The vines saved her life, but her husband died.
However, bungee jumping becomes much safer nowadays. You jump from a high place 200 metres above the ground with an elastic (有弹性的) rope tied to your feet. You fall at up to 150 kilometres an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that over 2 million people around the world have now tried bungee jumping.
Why do people take part in such activities as these nowadays Some scientists think that it is because life in modern world has become safe and boring. In the past, people had to go out and hunt for food. They didn’t have a doctor if they were ill, and life was harder for them. Nowadays, people live and work safely. They buy food in shops. And there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill. Then some people take part in such activities like bungee jumping.
It is important to remember that this sport is not suitable (合适的) for everyone. And remember, if you do not want to do it yourself, you can watch other people jump.
18.The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refers to (指) ________
A.vines B.towers C.logs D.ankles
19.What can we learn about bungee jumping
A.Bungee jumping is a good sport for everyone nowadays.
B.People can jump as high as they can when they try bungee jumping.
C.The longer the elastic rope is, the safer people will be in bungee jumping.
D.People won’t hit the ground with the help of the elastic rope in bungee jumping.
20.Why do people take part in bungee jumping nowadays
A.Because they live and work safely. B.Because they think life is exciting.
C.Because they worry about being ill. D.Because they feel bored with life.
Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer. Almost everyone likes sports. All over the world, men and women, boys and girls enjoy sports.
Sports change with the seasons. People play different games in winter and in summer. In warm weather, people often go sailing. But in winter, skating is usually more popular.
Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football, for example, has spread (传播) around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers. Some sports or games go back thousands of years, like running and jumping. Chinese Wushu, for example, has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are quite new. People are inventing (发明) new sports or games all the time. Water skiing is one of the newest in the family of sports.
Games and sports often grow out of the work that people do. The Arabs are famous for their horses and camels (骆驼). They use them in their work, and they use them in their sports, too. Hunting and fishing are very good sports. But millions of people do these just for a living.

The Library Lesson
Rules sometimes feel restrictive, but last month I learned their true value through an experience in our school library.
Our librarian, Ms. Reed, announced new rules to keep the study area peaceful. The key requirement was to avoid loud discussions after school. Many students ignored this, including my friend Tom and me. One Wednesday, we chatted loudly while working on a history project. Ms. Reed reminded us twice to lower our voices, but we continued.
The consequence came quickly: We got banned from the library for a week. To complete our research, we had to use the noisy cafeteria instead. Distractions everywhere made concentrating impossible. Our work quality suffered terribly.
That week taught me why rules matter. They aren’t meant to control us but to protect everyone’s rights. Now I understand to follow reasonable rules actually saves time and reduces stress. Tom and I even volunteered to help monitor the library area—our way of making amends.

Ron Clark is the writer of The Essential 55, a book about teaching students the rules for life. He was named Disney’s American Teacher of the Year for 2000. He helped many disadvantaged (弱势的) students and made a difference in their lives.
Clark’s story started at a primary school in North Carolina, the US. The first time he walked into his fifth-grade class, he met lots of problems. The children had little interest in learning and they often played or slept in class. To make a change, Clark wrote down 55 rules for them. Soon the students made progress in both their studies and lives. They learned to respect others and to be the best of themselves.
Some rules from The Essential 55Rule 1: Make eye contact (交流). Rule 2: Do your homework every night. Rule 3: If someone asks you a question, you should ask a question in return (作为回报). Rule 4: Learn the names of other teachers in the school and greet them. Rule 5: Do not save seats in the lunchroom. Rule 6: Always say thank you when you get something.
Clark doesn’t think it’s so hard to teach his students these rules. “I explain each rule, and then we role-play so that the students know how it works. The first week is just for practice. I will help them remember the rules they broke. After this week, each time they break a rule, they need to go over it.” Clark hopes that when his students leave his classroom, they can have skills that will help them for the rest of their lives.

Family rules help children learn what is and isn’t OK in the family. Good family rules are easy for children to understand.

Clean the bathroom on Fridays.
Following these rules sometimes can be difficult. For example, if your room is really dirty and you can’t finish cleaning it on that day, you have to finish it the next day, along with something else you have to do. That isn’t easy. So never put off today’s work until tomorrow.

In English, when someone is very angry we say this person “sees red”, just as a bull goes wild after seeing a red cloth. Now it turns out that “seeing red” is not just an expression for any people, but also a scientific fact.
Researchers at North Dakota State University in the US found that there is a connection between the color red and anger. Angry people really do “see red” where others don’t. And a preference for red over blue may even suggest a more hostile personality.
The study includes a number of experiments. In the first, researchers asked a group of people which color they preferred, red or blue. Participants (参加者) then did personality tests. Results showed that those who chose red tended to be more hostile.
During a second test, participants looked at faded images that could be regarded either red or blue. Those who saw red scored 25 percent higher on hostility in the personality test.
“Hostile people have hostile thoughts; hostile thoughts are connected with the color red, and therefore hostile people see this color more frequently.” the researchers told The Independent.
Finally, the participants were told about imaginary situations in which they could take different actions. Results showed that in these situations, red-preferring people were more likely to show that they would harm another person than those who preferred blue.
“An important message from this research is that color can send psychological meaning,” the researchers said.
Where does this connection between the color red and anger come from Scientists said it might be a matter of evolution (进化). In ancient times, poisonous plants and insects could cause wounds and bleeding. So it may have become instinctive (本能的) for people to link color red with danger and threats.

根据第二段“Later, in the kitchen at home, as I cooked our meal, my daughter Betty walked up to me, very quietly.” 可知,走进厨房的是作者的女儿Betty。故选A。
77.推理判断题。根据第五段“I am so sorry that I treated you that way today.”以及“Mommy, that’s okay”可知,这是作者向女儿道歉,并且女儿回应。此处应该是女儿对母亲的理解与爱意。选项B“我理解你,无论如何我仍然爱你。”符合语境。故选B。
78.词句猜测题。根据“‘Get out of the way!’ I shouted angrily. She ran away, crying.”以及“That night, when I lay in bed, my husband said to me, ‘You were so rude to Betty...’”可知,作者对女儿大喊后,丈夫指出她“rude”,可推测“rude”意为“粗鲁的、无礼的”。选项B“打碎杯子不道歉”属于不礼貌的行为,符合“rude”的含义。故选B。
